I started on L-Thyroxine Synthroid tabs (Abbott mfg) in October. As of today (Feb. 4th) I have gained 11 pounds. Before taking these pills I had a steady 132 going for years. What's up? I thought if anything I would loose weight. Anyone else experience this?

It is really hard to say whether it is the medication, because it could also just be a normal part of the aging process.

However, Levothyroxine is known to increase appetite and cause weight gain as side effects in some people.

Have you spoken to your doctor about it? They would be the only person that could help you get to the root of what's causing it.

It may be that your Dr. is keeping you on a min. dosage to keep your TSH level down to prevent growth of a goider or (in my case) reoccurance of cancer....
I gained ten pounds and tho I don't like it at all I know
the dosage has kept problems down.
