How Long For Side Effects To Wear Off? (Top voted first)

Updated

I have been on mirtazapine at 15mg for two weeks, I feel like a walking zombie and my moods are vile! I am agitated and hot tapered with my husband and children making me a nightmare to live with. Today the doctor has prescribed me 30mg as I have always been on such a high dose of Citalopram before we tapered off, that she thinks my side effects may be because I need more antidepressant in the system but agreed it might be because they don't suit me but we won't know until we've tried them for 5-6weeks.
My question is will I always be tired and zombie like?...and also will I always be hot tempered and agitated? Or will these symptoms wear off as at the moment I just feel like stopping the damn things!
Would really appreciate the opinions of those who have experienced this drug first hand, thanks.

Hey there, I first tried Remeron for the first time in 1999, very new on the market then. I went on and off it for a number of years. All I remember is that my doctor was already aware of the paradox in the dozages. The lower the dosage the greater the drowsiness. So for me a good starting dosage was 30mgs. I have gotten upto 75mgs. For me Remeron is one of the easiest ADs to taper off of and surprisingly when your tapering of with small dosages of 7.5 every other day or so, the drowsiness is no longer present--- that went away after a few months on the drug. Never really experienced any bad side effects except one if you can call it that. After I think about three weeks I started to get aroused quite a few times a day, I felt like a pimple faced kid that was going blind with hair on his palms, lol. Someone with low libido should talk to their doctor about trying Remeron.

Hello, Sam! How are you?

Some of these medications do seem to make things worse for about the first 3 weeks, after starting them, or whenever the dosage is raised. In many cases, it means they are going to work well for you, once your body adjusts.

They usually start to taper off and improve, should be totally gone by 6 weeks in, at the latest.

Is there anything else I can help with?
