Help With Lexapro Withdrawal

Thank you to all who post here. We can't get truthful or helpful support from most Drs. I am in Costa Rica and it is very difficult as I don't have a Psych. Dr. and the GP speaks little English. I have been on AD's since back in the day when there were only Tricyclics. Done them all. For the last 3 years have been on 150mg Wellbutrin and 10mg. Lexapro. GP started me on 20mg and I did that for a year and decided I wanted to try lesser dose and save a little $. I have since decided it no longer helps me and think the Wellbutrin can do the trick solo. On Sept. 8, I began 5 mgs. did that for 2 weeks, suffered the nausea, sleepiness, dizziness, weepiness short tempered, also started the Omega Oil Caps, B complex, ginger root tea, multivit. and dramamine. Then did every other day dose of 5mg. for a week and am on day 4 of no dose. Symptoms seemed to be tapering off, had a few days I felt pretty normal. Now today, yucky again. For so many years I have had loud ringing in my ears and assumed everyone does. Recently read SSRI's can do that. I am pretty strong in that I have't gone insane due to that side effect! Anyway, I am drinking ginger tea, still taking the supplements I mentioned, but wanted some support and advice. Am I trying to be too brave and anxious to stop and eradicate my body of this nasty drug? I know some people do it over several months. I felt so encouraged I had 3 great days with no dose. Thanks for any opinions out there.

I'm interested in hearing from folks who found they needed to go back on Lexapro after stopping. I succeeded with the withdrawal (with great difficulty) after six weeks, when those symptoms did subside. However, I am pretty sure the symptoms which I then experienced were a clear return of depression. I resumed the Lexapro, and I'm beginning to feel a bit better now after four days. I'm trying to discern the difference between withdrawal symptoms and depression return. Thanks!

I am glad that you were both able to successfully get off of it.

I was on a similar one for OCD a few years and quit cold turkey, with no tapering and that isn't something I'd recommend to anyone.

Many people are having very good luck with the Wellbutrin, so I am glad it's helping both of you.

Can you post back and keep us all updated on how you're doing?

Lexapro-I am OFF OF IT YEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I did the tapering but it was still a very rough road. Now I am just on 150 of wellbutrin and i think for the most part it is managing my depression adequately. I would say to anyone considering Lexapro to read these forums....perhaps the year or two it can help you will not be worth the several months of withdrawals. Good luck with it .

Hi Deb. How are you doing now? Still off of the med? I also am on Wellbutrin XL 150. I quit my Lexapro about a month ago after a taper. I was on it for many years. The first month was by far the worst, but I still have irritability, migraine, and nausea! My primary reason for wanting to quit Lexapro was due to the weight I gained while on it - 30 pounds!
