The doctor I've been seeing since I moved here said since I'm new to the area I'd have to start the whole "conservative" medical process all over again. My medical records don't mean I'm getting pain meds here because I was getting them back East. He said the laws in Washington doesn't allow doctors to prescribe pain meds. I know in Pennsylvania as long as you're getting a U/A done every 6 months for the script any doctor including the E.R. can prescribe the meds.

See----what dr is this? I was just given a list by a sports med dr who told me who prescribes as long as your willing to do other therapies...

I see Dr. Paterno at Washington Center for Pain Mgmt in either the Federal Way or Renton location. I am prescribed 10mg oxycontin 2x per day. Dr. Paterno is leaving in June and I will begin seeing Dr. Kinder. I have had really positive experiences at WCFPM.

Hi See... I'm a little confused because in your post down below you said that the doctor at Wa. Center for Pain Mgmt. told you that they can't prescribe narcotics but in this post you say you are getting 10mg. Oxy. twice a day.

I'm in the same boat, I have a doctor in the Everett area and he's retiring at the end of June and I can't find anybody to take me because I'm over the stupid recommendations from the state of Washington. however I am stable and a great patient.

If u are over the limit on your meds u will not find a doc who will take you in WA or OR. U will be required to detox/withdraw for 30 days minimum, then u will be put on the minimum starting dose. The docs have no choice as they r limited by the state. No exceptions. If u want to avoid this hell then check out Idaho, Nevada or AZ. They refused to accept the new guidelines. I now fly to Phoenix, AZ monthly to see my new pain doc. I can get out of bed, see my yard, sit at table, even short shopping trips. Before, I was confined to my bed, crying because almost every minute was torture, praying God would take me away. 14 months of inadequate pain control has damaged my heart. I fell once and fractured 6 vertebra in my neck, and 2 above my spine fusion. I damaged my shoulder replacement and tore my knee up...another surgery. So I'm moving to AZ and these *****s can't torture me ever again. And yes, I did the withdraw and spent 3 weeks in the hospital because my body was shutting down from pain and the stress of withdrawal. Get out of here fast. Go where docs care about quality of life over a nice, thoughtless, worry free day at the office.

Hi, Devon. I'm sorry for the confusion. I do take two 10mg oxycontin er - which puts me below the "acceptable" guidelines comparison of my oxycontin to 90mg morphine. I've had to stick up for myself believe me! I told them that I refuse to have a machine put in my body (stimulator or pain pump). So far, I'm still recovering my pain meds but each time I go to my monthly appointment I wonderful if this is the visit where I'll be leaving without being given a prescription. Dr. Paterno is leaving Washington Center for pain mgmt this month & I see Kathryn (physician's assistant) next month. I don't know if this cleared anything up, or not. If you are on a low dose/maintain well/comply, etc etc then you might want to make an appointment with them. You don't want to see Dr. Hong or Dustin Reed - both will not prescribe meds, but will do inj's. & an implant stimulator or pain pump. I wish you well.

I'm really sorry to hear that. Can you get Medicaid or Medicare coverage? I'm medically disabled, receive my social security disability benefits & have both Medicare & Medicaid. I know how difficult it is out there & I'm really sorry for your struggle

Deedee,

I was denied because I was over the limit by $3.57 in Arizona. I had coverage... I do know of a good dr in Redmond but I don't know how to exchange info as I'd like to keep him private but willing to help you out.

Is the Seattle pain management still taking new patients? I've had 5 surgeries on both knees (total 10). The 9th and 10th being total knee replacements. I also have arthritis everywhere, in pain everyday all day. Looking for a doctor that ain't afraid to write a script. Not asking to break the law just in desperate need of relief... Please help.

Has anyone out there found any help? My boyfriend is really messed up. His is disabled, bad back, knees, shoulder, arthritis, etc. His dr. retired and did not give any good names of drs. This state is horrible, especially for people who REALLY need pain meds. He needs a new dr. asap. Thank anyone who can recommend anyone. I don't know how any of us can get ahold of one another. Is there another website you can recommend? Thank you

the fact that you have been using opioids for a very long time - like many years does not matter. There is no "grandfathering"...... have tried at least 6 new Pain Specialists since mine lost his license and it's obvious that they are all running scared in Washington. There is no negotiating - other than maybe a LITTLE leeway on how quickly you will be taken off of everything. If there is ONE doctor out there who is more interested in helping and just a little bit less scared of losing his license - I'd love to find that doctor.

If you are referring to "Seattle Pain Centers", they are long gone - they were all shut down by the state.
