Gabapentin for Restless Leg Syndrome

I was just given a prescription for gabapentin 300mg 90 minutes before bedtime. Can increase 300mg every night to a max of 1200. This increase is weekly. I have symptoms of restless leg syndrome but my problem is much more than RLS. I have heavy legs and problems with balance. I was on Requip with some help to the symptoms but developed compulsive gambling problem. Is anyone else in a similar situation or have any advice for me as to what to expect. I have had this problem for over 5 years. It started with just kinda stubbing your toe as I walked and progressed to turing to walk a certain direction and my upper body moved but my legs did not follow. Things like stepping up on a curb became something to think about and prepare for before I attempted it. My legs and ankles tire easily. Th...

over the counter substitute for gabapentin

I am presently taking gabapentin and if I forget 1 tablet it is awful. I can't sleep and my legs ache and the next morning because of the lack of sleep I can not function. I am on this medicine for back pain and I do believe it helps.. I would like to get off this drug and maybe try something natural but not sure what is in this. I have read several horror stories that have concerned me on the withdrawal from this drug. Just looking for something that may be a natural substitute. Thank you so much.. By the way I am 68 years old and take 600 mg at bedtime.. ## Hello, Eloise! How are you? Unfortunately, there is no over the counter equivalent. Rather than missing tablets, if you have a smart phone, there are quite a few reminder apps available for free that you can set to go off, so t...

Big Oval White Pill D 24 On One Side Nothing Other

I found this pill in my daughter's suitcase while visiting and nothing is on the label. Please help me. I can't find anything online to support the pills and let me know what it is. ## From what I'm finding, a tablet with this marking contains 600mgs of Gabapentin, which is an anticonvulsant that's also used to treat certain types of nerve pain and mood disorders. Learn more Gabapentin details here. Have you talked to her about it? ## The pill that you found in her suitcase is gabapentin which is a pain pill and nerve pill mixed which is used to treat certain types of nerve pain and mood disorders.. I hope this helps you ## You make it sound like it could be in the same category as certain narcotic pain pills such as OxyContin or percocet. Gabapentin is a NON-Narcotic me...

Gabapentin and Sleep Apnea

Does Gabapentin enhance sleep apnea? ## Hi Mare - By "enhance", are you asking whether Gabapentin increases sleep apnea, or whether it helps to treat it? ## I meant increases. Thanks ## I found a research study on PubMed titled "Gabapentin acutely increases the apnea-hypopnea index in older men: data from a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study." You can read through what they say, but they ultimately concluded "gabapentin worsened sleep breathing acutely compared with placebo". Note that it was not a longer term clinical trial so more research is warranted. A longer version of the study is also published at: Hope this helps! ## Thanks Roy. I will check it out.

how long does it take gabapentin to get out of your system

I was taking 300 mg neurontin. 1 in am, 1 at noon and 2 at bedtime. I was prescribed the med in May of 2013. Increased later when not helping with foot numbness. It has been almost 2 weeks since i tapered myself off of the drug and i still feel nausea in the am which affects my eating. Please advise how long it will take this med to be out of my system? Thank you. ## Hi Cindy, Sorry to hear about the nausea you've been experiencing lately. From what I've been researching, in most cases it usually ends up being around 2 to 5 days for this type of medication to clear your system. However because you've been taking it for about a year, I'd imagine your body could still probably use some time to get accustomed to not having it on a regular basis. One study I found mentioned ...

Is the Gabapentin affecting my eyes?

I am now taking 7 x 300 gabapentin per day and am getting terrible eye problems: double and blurred vision, I am also sufering unnerving confusion, could it be a side effect of the gabapentin? ## It doesn't seem from the monograph listing, that these are common side effects: Gabepentin Side-Effect Info Click Here I would suggest you speak to your doctor and discuss this as soon as possible, it could be this drug, an illness, or a combo if you are taking something else. ## I get blurred vision with only 2 300 Mg's ## I have been taking 2400 mg (eight 300-mg tablets) a day of gabapentin for more than a year. I have a lot of double vision, though only when I'm tired (which is most of the time). Of course, I take a few other sedating medications as well. I've gotten used to ...

ic gabapentin 300 mg bladder side effects

I take 100 ic gabapentin 3 times/day for sciatica. Now I find that my bladder leaks about once a week which is unnerving. Has this been reported as a side effect? ## Didn't give enough information about my bladder leakage. The leakage is small and occurs in my sleep. ## Gabapentin is an anticonvulsant that has also been proven to help with certain types of nerve pain. This is not listed among the normal side effects, which may include: nausea, drowsiness, dizziness and weight gain. You can read more on it here: Have you talked to your doctor about this? ## Have not talked to doctor about occasional bladder leakage while sleeping since starting Gabapentin. Gabapentin false drug test

I have to take a urine drug test weekly and it gets sent off to a lab to be double checked. The last 3 weeks it says I failed for Gabapentin. I have not taken that kind of medicine my whole life. The only medication I am taking is Suboxone. Can someone please tell me why or how this is happening? ## I can tell you that some people that have been in jail have tested positive for cocaine while taking Gabapentin. They have actually stopped giving it to people in jail for this reason. I don't know the truth in this but I was told that Gabapentin pulls false positives constantly! Sometimes for benzos other times for cocaine. You tell me why? If there's a doctor out there please respond! So people that say you cannot test positive for other drugs are wrong!!! ## I'm posting this b...

gabapentin causing a metallic taste in mouth

I recently started taking gabapentin to alleviate nerve pain from fibromyalgia, but now I am having a metal taste in my mouth and all the teeth brushing in the world doesn't stop it. I am also eating myself out of house and home with this med.... anyone else have this problem, and if so, how do I stop it? ## Hello, Strephannie! How are you? I'm sorry about the problems that you're having. The FDA does list these issues as possible side effects of taking Gabapentin, along with dizziness, headache, dry mouth and mood swings. However, most side effects do tend to improve, as your body gets used to the medication, but it may take a month or so. But weight gain is a problem that most people have when taking this medication and that doesn't usually change, as long as they are ...

gabapentin withdrawal after only a week on it at low dose

Hi. Please help. Was only gabapentin 200mg at nighttime for just over a week. Side effects were awful. Really bad dizzy spaced out feeling. Heart racing. Couldn't hack it anymore so dropped down to 100mg for 2 nights then stopped. So total dose nor more than 2500mg in 12 days. Well I'm now day 19 post and everyday is like Groundhog Day. Dizzy and spaced out with a heavy feeling in the head. Can't drive, focus much or even read. Writing this is a chore! Some tachycardia and anxiety but would imagine this may be more to do with the frustration than anything else but who knows? Sleep is more or less ok. Drs have no idea, including pain specialists. Why can't you take gabapentin with suboxone

My doctor told me if you're on suboxene or subutex it's not a good idea to mix it with gabapentin. Why is this because I was taking gabapentin for 15 years ## Hello, Tessa! How are you? It is due to the depression of the central nervous system that can occur, when they are taken together, according to the FDA, it could result in respiratory distress, coma, respiratory failure, heart failure and possibly death. Gabapentin Drug Side Effects and Information

I was given the drug for restless legs. ## I take 300mg. and have memory loss, tiredness so bad I'm not sure I want to continue taking it.The doc. wants me to try another drug to give me some umph. Not to sure about that. ## Things to consider - how long have you taken the medication, what exactly do you take it for, what other medications do you take (prescriptiion & OTC). A drug's side effects may diminish or vanish completely over time. A person's age may enter into the overall picture and,as always, a second opinion never hurt. ## Since taking it I have been getting a lot of colds/bronchitis duet to low energy and high white cell count. ## I have been taking it for 2 months and the effects are not getting any bett...

Trintellix and Gabapentin

My wife is prescribed Trintellix for depression. This is anti-depressant #3 in our effort to alleviate both anxiety and depression. She has a propensity for abusing benzos, but that is not an option now. We’re only on day 8, but she doesn’t appear to be making any progress. She has access to gabapentin and is finding that if she takes a large amount of this med (gabapentin), she can get temporary relief, experiencing some energy and mood enhancement. We’re talking about 2000mg to 3000mg at a time (once a day). Questions are: Is Gabapentin adversely masking any headway we might be making with Trintellix? Can Gabapentin, taken in these dosages, cause short-term and/or longterm negative effects for her? Obviously, we will run out of Gabapentin and this won’t be an o...

Gabapentin, a generic for Neurontin.

I found some of these in a baggie, are they used for recreation or do they have any kind of effect that would make someone take them that do not have the prescription ## Neurotion is not a recreactional drug. It is used primarily for Seizures but has alternate uses. It will not produce a high of any kind. ## Then I do not understand why would they be kept in a baggie next to other stuff ## Neurontin gives no effects of getting high. It is also prescribed for chronic pain. I don't know all the details but if it is a teen and they thought the pills were for pain they might be thinking that the pills are in the opiate category to get high which is a total misconception. This drug can be dangerous if not used correctly. I personally took it for pain and found no relief so my Dr. kept in...

Gabapentin side effects (sleepy, feeling 'drunk' & memory loss)

Hey everyone. I've been taking Gabapentin for about 2 months now at 300mg 3x a day. I was prescribed it after having a tumor removed from my neck which resulted in nerve damage. They help with the pain for sure as it is at least manageable now where it wasn't before. But holy the side effects! I feel like I could fall asleep anywhere, anytime of the day. I also feel off balance all the time, almost like I feel 'drunk' to an extent. I'm also finding I'm dealing with memory loss. I have a hard time remembering what I did 20 mins ago! I guess my big question is, has anyone else dealt with side effects like this? Did they ever diminish over time? I'm going to see my surgeon in a couple weeks and thinking I may have to look at a different route but wanting some in...

gabapentin

need to discuss with someone about the proper dosage of this med. ## There is really no set dosage for this, though you do need to start at a low dosage and gradually add more until you find the amount that works effectively for you. Most doctors will start with 100mgs taken 2 to 3 times a day, then go up to 300 and continue adding until they find what works for each patient. It would take a tremendous amount to OD on this, which is why so many doctors like to use it, they can take the dosage very high, without danger and it has very few side effects. Your best bet then, is to take your doctors advice on what you should be taking and how often. ## I just started gabapentin. My doctor told me to take 300 mg before bedtime for the first week and then move up to one every 12 hours and the ...

gabepentin and memory loss

I took Lyrica for several years but quit taking it and switched to gabapentin which I took for several years. I took 300 mg x 3 daily and I have no short term memory and I can't think of the words I mean to say. I also took morphine and hydrocodone so I don't know which drug caused the memory loss. I now am off the opiates but take 100 mg gabapentin x2 daily for anxiety ## Both Lyrica and gabapentin are known for memory loss. Been on pain meds for years, but never had memory issues with them. Type in both Lyrica and gabapentin. You'll find you are far from alone. God bless. ## That is correct, Gabapentin is known to cause memory loss as a long-term side effect, according to pre-approval studies, and real world use reports. Other side effects may include nausea, dizziness, we...

And all the pharmacy says it's a different company that makes them but they are still the same pill.. No they are not..
