Embeda Misuse Or Tolerance

Updated

My sister came here from another state and is taking Embeda. She now wants to get more meds, and shows she is unable to be accountable, taking all of her meds within a 10 day window instead of her prescribed 30 days. She is on two other short-acting opioids but doesn't want or care to know that any opioid has eventually a high tolerance level. I know this because I am on Fentanyl transdermal and Morphine IR. This eventually does happen no matter who you are and has happened to me. I just have a provider who changes my immediate release meds up six months. This prevents me from totally get accustomed to the med and I have complete pain breakdowns. What can I do to help my sister? Anything?

She moved a week ago from Florida to Utah. Four years ago my mother passed away. My mother at the time was on extremely strong liquid morphine and Xanax due to the fact she was going to die and was in Hospice and couldn't talk. My sister drank all of her medicines and the next morning we had to get the medics to take her to the ER. She almost died that night. Now a week ago she had my father pick her up and move to Utah. She is on a handful of meds with three being long term strong opioids with one being Extended Release Morphine. Today she could barely keep her eyes open, and was barely breathing. She has scheduled herself a pain clinic appointment she says so she can get stronger meds. I know they will not provide her with that because she says she has Huntington's disease. She has been evaluated and it has proven her wrong. Is she still able to get these strong drugs? Why has she moved away from her comfort zone? Please help.

I hav heard Utah is one of those Fire & brimstone states & ppl just are not getting any meds when they actually are accountable so u most likely do not need to worry about anything other than her taking your meds allegedly.

What does unable to be accountable mean? I am sorry to say it is very difficult to really understand your post... What exactly is it you are wanting to know?

Eric~your post is now 1 month old BUT IF she's STILL waiting to get into pain management; rest assured when she does I highly doubt they will prescribe her ALL the meds she's wanting. It seems like every state is REALLY clamping down on them; even for a PAIN PATIENT who needs pain meds & takes them as prescribed. I have a hard time believing that 1 doctor prescribed her ALL those meds that she got in Florida. She was more than likely "doctor shopping" & it will catch up to her; maybe that's why she left Florida? Oh & if I were you, I'd put my pain meds in a safe & don't let her in your house alone.

Eric~~Also from what I understand Embeda is combination of Morphine & Naltrexone.

Naltrexone is an Opiate Antagonist meaning it's for opioid dependence OR abuse so maybe her doctors were onto something by RXing that for her??

I had a bad heroin problem that stemmed from prescription pills. I was on a solid daily dose for a year, then my dad passed and I took twice as much! After my family noticing my physical appearance changing they sat me down and talked me into outpatient rehab and I was prescribed Xanax 2 mgs daily and Suboxone. I never got sick, it friggin cured me! I swear the only reason I never stopped on my own was because I couldn't handle the harsh side effects of withdrawal symptoms! And subs fixed that right up along with the Xanax for panic attacks that I've been plagued with since 9th grade. Now I'm 42 and got control of my life. I can sleep in and not wonder how I'm gonna get money for my next fix! God and my father are watching over me cause I got 3 daughters that need their daddy! And that helps me psychologically!

Re: Eric (# 5) Expand Referenced Message

I misunderstood something. In your ORIGINAL post you said that you were on a Fentanyl patch & Morphine IR for breakthrough pain. How in the world would your Dr. put you on opiate therapy when you were on Suboxone!!??
Unless you were on Heroin because you had Intractable Pain that wasn't being treated. Confusing to me!
