I have been taking Doxazosin for 2 months and in the last 2 weeks I have had bad neck stiffness and shoulder pain radiating to my arms and also sweating and sore muscles. I went to the doctor and he said I had the flu. It is 2 weeks and no fever or cold just alot of pain that does not go with tylenol or any other pain reliever. I also am crying alot and feeel very depressed which has never been a problem of mine at all. last night I was thinking of dying. I ache all or my upper body and my neck is terrible. I am stopping th drug tonight as I leave for my vacation for 2 weeks tomorrow. It has to be the problem as I have taken no new drugs at all except this one.
If anyone else has these problems please tell me.

Doxazosin is an alpha blocker that is commonly used to treat high blood pressure and BPH.

And yes, the problems you are experiencing are not common side effects of this medication, but they are some of the rare ones that some people do experience, when they are sensitive to it.

I experienced very similar problems from this class of medications and my doctor had to take me off of it and switch me to a different medication. The time span that you stated also makes sense, it is generally around the 6 to 8 week mark that they reach their full effectiveness in the body and can start causing the worst of the problems, if they are going to.

However, if you are taking it for high blood pressure, it is also very important that you not let it get out of control as the can be very dangerous and life threatening. In addition, stopping these medications abruptly, without tapering it or switching to something else can cause rebound effects, such as severely elevated blood pressure, elevated heart rate and palpitations.

Please make sure you consult with your doctor and insist on trying a different medication. If they won't play ball, then see a different doctor.

I have a lot of personal experience with these medications. Due to my extreme sensitivity to them, I've had to try one or two from almost every class of blood pressure/cardiac medication on the U.S. market.

Are there any other comments or question?

I've been taking it for 30 days.
In the first two weeks, I had a stiff neck (extreme), fatigue and dizziness. Also - increased feelings of depression.
All are lessened now, but still perceivable. When I see the Doctor in a few weeks, I am going to ask to stop the medication. I do believe - however - that my BP has gone down to "normal" sub-120 levels.

I have been on doxazosin before but as it was the only drug which didn’t make me feel terrible, I have gone back on it. After a couple of months I seemed to have suddenly developed pain in my elbows, shoulders, arms, fingers and knees to a point where I felt this was just so miserable. Yes it could be osteoarthritis but it happened all of a sudden aft er starting these pills. I’m pretty sure Doxazosin has something to do with it.
