Dilaudid Information

Updated

There doesn't seem to be much information regarding Dilaudid and it's effectiveness (which I've found to be less useful than morphine and it is said to be 5 times more potent than morphine...). Is there anywhere else to look or do most people take Opana, there seems to be a ton of information and conversation, granted not so great, on Opana. Any guidance would be appreciated. I am trying to find a balance between my meds. Thanks!

Well, first what you find to be useful and effective, could be very different from what someone else finds useful and effective, because everyone is different and their own body plays a very important role.

For instance, for general pain relief, I had very good luck with Dilaudid, when they gave it to me in the hospital, but it did nothing for the headache I had, so they still had to give me something else. But there are many others that take it treat headaches and it works very well for them.

Thus, you can't really say that most people take one or the other, because it all depends what helps the person in question, with any given symptom at any given time.

As to information in its effectiveness, there are some reference links at the bottom of the monograph page
Dialudid information here, which may help you find what you're seeking.

Are there any other questions or comments?

Diaudid IS 8 - 9 x more potent than morphine but as far as pain relief, it's bioavilability is better if taken iv!!!!! You'll def feel it if they gave it to u in the hospital iv!!!! ;-)

Thanks Verwon, I agree it's different for everyone. I actually suffer migraines, have for years in addition to my other medical issues and I have found it to be very helpful, I think it's even preventing them so my experience is already different than yours but I agree with the other poster in that it's far more effective in the hospital via IV than orally. Even orally I do get some pain relief now, I think I had to just take it consistently and I was letting the pain get to bad and let the cycle get out of control so my doctor prefers I just take it on a schedule and not PRN and it's been far more effective. The only trouble I have is transitioning from the hospital from the IV, it's totally ineffective for a long time and I have to take something else and it's still not enough but I manage. I am not one to IV pills, I'm a by the book PM patient and it doesn't sound like that would lead anywhere good. I think if my doctor wants me IVing meds, he will give me IV meds! What can I say, I'm a good girl. Not saying that in a judgmental way, I've snorted before when desperate so I know that horrible pain can make anyone break the rules. I now don't let my pain ever get close to that level and when it does, I go to the doctor and usually they will give me an injection in the office and I go home and keep up with it orally and just sleep until I regain control. It just seems there is SO much written about Opana and very little recent about dilaudid and I like to read about other people's experiences, I learn from them. It sounds like Opana is frequently abused, why do you think that is? Just curious. Thanks Verwon, can always count on you to help out. Hope you are well yourself.
