I am taking Conidine for alcohol withdrawl and anti-anxiety with great success. It has a relaxing quality and peace of mind effect. I do get tired at the end of the day and rely on at least 8 hours sleep a night to function the next day.

My grandson has been prescribed clonidine at 4 yrs. old.His mother has had drug problems of her own in (supposedly) the past. She wants this for him to sleep,I have no problems with him sleeping at my house. Also he is going to get something for anger problems which he mainly has at her home.I do not want to give this to him after reading side effects.I think she has the problem.I tried leaving messages for his dr. to call me but she won't . HELP what should I do ?

You might get 3/4 hrs. or more of sleep. Please take into account that this medication reacts differently with each person, however, insomnia has been a somewhat pattern for many users. I become sleepy, go to sleep then wake up around 2am with a wide awake feeling that does not go away.

If you read some of the posts on this site, you will see how much of a problem that this has been for many. The medical field is proceeding with scientific research on using clonidine for sedation for ICU patients. These patients however, are not subjected to this drug for long periods of time, therefore the insomnia effect may not be an effect seen in these patients.

Hello, I am 45 and been on clonidine for about 2 yrs . What is strange is that I was first given this medication for withdrawal from another med. At that time did not have high blood pressure. for some reason I was left on it for a little while after the withdrawals. My blood pressure was normal before I went through withdrawals. Now I have full fledged hypertension. Coincidence?, I do not know but it is strange. Clonidine is a weird medication for me, I take it for high blood pressure, yet it causes higher numbers for me too. makes no sense, and i take it as directed. My blood pressure is still unstable, and I am also on Corgard (beta blocker) and aldactone(diuretic) water pill. Going to speak to the doctor, Has anyone else experienced higher blood pressure when already taking it for high blood pressure?...and I do not experience insomnia, I have the opposite can never wake up sleep all day.

I have taken Clonidine prescribed for anxiety while getting off other meds. My cardiologist has suggested I not take it at all anymore due to the rebound high blood pressure. I am on Atenolol plus Lisinopril but Clonidine does rebound and shoots the blood pressure up. I take Atenolol for MVP but lately nothing is helping the erratic heart beats. When you taper off Clonidine for a while your numbers may go down.

My 7-year-old took her 0.1mg clonidine and her trazodone 50mg and immediately threw up. I only saw the clonidine come up. Can I give her another one?
