Just started on this prescription for a urinary infection after being pulled off of Cipro which gave me headaches and made sleep difficult. Is Sulphamethox similar to Cipro when it comes to avoiding calcium (milk/dairy products) 2 hours before and 6 hours after taking it? I was told that eating or drinking calcium rich foods diminished the effects and needed to know if this applied to Sulphamethox as well. Thanks ## Hello, Kevin! How are you? Since this is a different type of antibiotic, dairy products do not affect its absorption. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with?

Swollen sore abcess tooth with a lump under jawbone in area of abcessband it's Christmas Eve no dentist open I have cipro about five will they help ## Hello, DJ! How are you? I'm sorry about the dental problem you're having. According to the FDA, Cipro is an antibiotic that can be used to treat various types of bacterial infections. Though it may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. However, the main issue is that you won't have enough to take a full course of the antibiotics to fully eradicate the infection, which creates the risk of your developing antibiotic resistance. Additionally, it will not help with whatever the underlying problem is that allowed the abscess to develop, thus, you will still need to see you...

Which might be a better antibiotic and cause less stress on your liver? ## Hello, Mike! How are you? Generally, Bactrim is the most problematic antibiotic, overall, not just for any possible effect on the liver. It tends to be much more harsh, since it is a sulfa based antibiotic, so it usually causes a lot more side effects and many more allergic reactions than others. It's also very rough on the kidneys and can easily cause dehydration. Thus, if you have a choice, you might want to try Cipro first and save the Bactrim as a last resort, if others don't work. I rarely tell anyone to take it as their first option. Typical side effects to Cipro may include nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with?

I am having a terrible time dealing with the pain. I had a uti and was prescribed ciprofloxacin, have been on it twice a day for 5 days. The 5th day i had an appointment to have a tooth pulled. Had to cancel as anxiety had taken over and could not go. The pain has increased from 50 to 100%. I am a diabetic and already have nerop. In my feet and legs. I have alot of problems with my health and this has really put a damper on my life. I am a 72 year old young at heart, but feeling like 90 in my body. This is bad because my 50 year old husband is missing out on life so he can take care of me. Life was so great until ciprofloxacin came into our lives. Thankful for life and the blessing I have but this is really testing my self worth at this time. I only pray there will be more studies on th...

Started out taking Flagyl, 2000 mg in one day......did not work....cultured and e-coli infection....given 10 days of Cipro.....still have burning and pressure....At wits end....leaving in two days for vacation........I seem to get these quite often..had fishy smell, took bath and bang, next day burning..... ## Hello, Rosie! How are you? I am sorry that you're so sick. If you have a fishy odor coming from your genital area, then that likely denotes that you also have a vaginal bacterial infection. Thus, you might be treating one, while the other is still raging gout of control, because you might not be taking the right medication for it. Have you consulted your gynecologist? The fact that things are erupting after a bath also points to that possibility. Have you had any discharge? Do...

can you split cipro 5313 in half to swallow? ## Hello, Lee! How are you? Yes, but you should still be sure to take the full dose as prescribed by your doctor, in order to ensure that the infectious bacteria is properly eradicated. Side effects to this medication may include nausea, dizziness, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with?

antibotics that cause tendon detachments ## All of the Quinolone Antibiotics can lead to tendon rupture, tendon damage or tendon detachments. These antibiotics include: Cipro Levaquin Avelox Moxifloxacin Ofloxacin Floxin or any other antibiotics that end in -floxin -oxacin ## I have taken 3 levaquin 500 mg pills over 3 days (1 a day) I did not take one today, noticing discomfort in my achilles tendon area in one leg. How scared should I be? I will not take anymore. Should I do anything (doctor)? Any advice appreciated. ## Yes, you should definitely stop taking the drug and contact your doctor immediately. Be aware that there are many drugs in the same class of drugs known as the Fluoroquinolone antibiotics that your doctor may try to prescribe in place of the Levaquin- please do not let...

I took two Cipro 500mg pills at once on a wednesday and felt dizzy and got headaches and stomachaches. Is it possible for it to still be hurting on sunday? ## There are many problems with taking this drug, including side effects that persist for years or even for a lifetime. Please read the page on Ciprofloxacin Side Effects so that you are aware of the multitude of problems that this drug can cause, then stop taking this drug immediately and contact your doctor to have him switch medications to find a more appropriate antibiotic to treat your infection.

is this the same tablet as perscibed for humans and dogs. any difference? ## The active ingredient is the same, but since you do not list the manufacturer, I cannot tell you anything about the inactive ingredients. The list of accepted safe inactive ingredients is different, what is considered safe for dogs, may not be safe for people and vice/versa. ## If you are considering giving this medicine to your dog, please take a second thought before you do so and discuss with your doctor a better alternative. Both dogs and humans are susceptible to the potentially disabling Ciprofloxacin Side Effects. In fact, many of the studies done to show the damaging effects of Cipro and it's Fluoroquinolone cousins that are in the same class, were done on dogs! Please do not subject yourself or you...

After having 2 sinus infections within a month, I was pretty sure I had yet another one. I took Cipro for the first two and they seemed to go away. I was sure that I had one again, so I returned to the doctor. He prescribed that SMZ-TMP double str. 800-160. I read the side effects that came with my prescription and thought, wow there are ALOT of side affects to this medication! I haven't really had a bad reaction to a drug before except when the doctor was trying to get my thyroid dose correct. At that time, I thought I was going crazy! I had anxiety really bad. I called that doctor's office many times and they finally called me back. When I told them all of my symptoms they acted like it was no big deal, just switch to this dosage. They were unsympathetic and really didn't ...

I took 3 500mg. ciprofloxacinall a once. what can happen to me??? ## Hello, Dot! How are you? Did you experience any adverse effects? This is an antibiotic, so that really wouldn't be an overdose, so to speak, unless you are allergic to it or have some severe medical problem that it is contraindicated with. Otherwise, you'd likely just experience a worsening of the side effects and have more nausea and diarrhea than usual. Did you consult your doctor? You should double check this information with them, to be safe.

I was prescribed cipro for a 3rd time friday for recurring uti (over 2 yr period) first 2 times ok, but had flare up of tendenitis. This time, however, after 4 days of 500mg twice daily, I hv developed leg tremors, night sweats, severe anxiety, wake up faithfully after only 3 hrs sleep, upper right abdominal pain, nausea to the point of not eating, and almost constant pain in back on right side. Feel so bad I scheduled ultrasound w/ a friend of mine tomorrow to make sure nothing more serious is going on. I am so worried its my liver or pancreas...I am constantly cking my eyes for jaundice. I hv always worried some but now out of control! Driving everyone nuts I am sure. I also hv ringing in my ears & slight headaches on top of my head. Was wondering if anyone else had the right abdo...

Does anyone know if it is okay to take the following with cipro (I have to take cirpo 500mg 2 x day for 7 days) as it is quite confusing knowing what I can/cannot take while taking cipro. decaf coffer with a little soy milk grapefruit egg whites yogurt baby bell cheese Phillips colon health and a water 'enhancer' called MIO (by Kraft)? ## Hello, Bobz! How are you? From what I can find, it just needs to be taken 2 hours before or 2 hours after you eat any type of dairy product. What has your pharmacist advised? Is there anything else I can help with?

Hey my fiance had taken cipro and was curious if you have joint pain would your Dr. Still prescribe this drug to you? she does not have it but was curious if they still would. And another question about cipro how long do the side effects last? she worries to much but I love her and want to help her out as much as I can, so any feed back would be very appreciated. ## Hello, Ryan! How are you? It would depend on what is causing the joint pain, there are some cases where it could be contraindicated. And there is no definitive answer on how long the side effects might last, but usually they will wear off a few days after someone finishes their course of the antibiotic. Is there anything else I can help with?

I'm currently being treated for prostatitis w/Cipro. Also have chronic epydidymitis. Originally prescribed Bactim, but showed no improvement after 4 days, so was given 60 day course of Cipro. I've researched Cipro on the internet and am now very concerned about being on a fluoroquinolone drug for such a long time. I also suffer a lot from issues related to my gut. Could I expect it to still be effective to stop the Cipro & go back & finish the Bactrim prescription now? I have completed 10 days on the Cipro and have about 6 days of pills left on the Bactrim. Meanwhile, I still have pain & symptoms related to my prostate & testicle. ## The Bactrim is more likely to cause you problems, since it is a sulfa based antibiotic and many people end up being very sensitive ...
