Butesin Picrate - Compounding
(Newest replies first)

Updated

Hello. I'm from Australia and had been sorry to learn that Butesin Picrate cream was removed from commercial sale. My daughter (a registered pharmacist with Pharmaceutical Compounding exp.) recently suffered burns while she was home cooking: I said my "often quoted regret" about the cream's discontinuation. We have - between us - located the original (1%) pharmaceutical compounding instructions for it and provided it's not large scale manufacture I can arrange to put you in touch with the compounding pharmacy - only in limited supply for individuals though (like many of us who grew up with this cream in our mothers' first aid boxes!).

One ingredient (apparently) had cancer-causing discussions at scientific circles... and that's part of the PR disaster that prompted removal. Personally I feel toxic wastes from other industrial sources - and asbestos in C20 housing are at least as bad! I am ok to take the risk with such a superior burn cream and take my chances if I'm in agony from a household burn.

My grandfather went to the pharmacy and brought this back from Abbott Pharmaceutical Ind. Any help on getting something with the same ingredients would be much appreciated from Florida!!!

Re: anonymous (# 73) Expand Referenced Message

A gas oven exploded in my face when I was 3 years old causing 3rd degree burns over my entire face. The firemen who responded lathered me with Butesin Picrate and left a tube for my Mom. Not a single scar was the result. We have always had BP in the house but we have no more of it. Any source for this product will be highly appreciated.

Re: Karen (# 46) Expand Referenced Message

Hello Karen. I would like to know the name of the source in Venezuela in hopes that they could ship to another country (other than US) and we could figure out someway to get it to US and others thru teamwork. Many responses have been from various countries that would likely help. Thank you in advance for any info. you could provide.

I have been looking for butesin for home burn use and agree it is by far the best for minor burns. Could you put me in touch with the compounding pharmacy so I can get a tube.

Re: Liane (# 66) Expand Referenced Message

There is no compounding pharmacy. This product is no longer made. No matter how many people reply and ask it is not made by anyone, including a compound chemist, anymore. The magic ingredient is now deemed dangerous and is unavailable to anyone. So this thread should be deleted. It’s done.

I would love to be able to get another tube of this miracle cream. I also used it many years ago. Could anyone please forward me the contact details for the compounding pharmacy who can supply it, and what do they call it now?

Re: Mad (# 63) Expand Referenced Message

Hi Mad,
I agree this has gone on for too long with nothing to show. Maybe Gem no longer exists. Whatever, it seems we will never be able to get this magic ointment again, so let's move on.

Hi All

I don’t know who “Gem” the original poster is but so many have responded to her post, which she in turn has NOT responded to. I fear her offer must have been unfounded. I think one of the ingredients is now classified as carcinogenic and has been banned worldwide, so is unavailable for any compound chemist to access. If someone really has access to a great compound chemist then they should have access to archived formulas. They should also be able to analyse a sample of the product. It just seems strange to me that “Gem” posted that she had the formula and now has gone to ground, suggesting to me that the legal ramifications of her production of the banned ointment would not be worth it.

I have an original tube, as I read others have also. This tube has the ingredients on the back. I can’t find someone to reproduce it for me because the magic ingredient is no longer available. If anyone finds a way around this please count me in. Otherwise maybe we could all sign a partition to have it reinstated but I’m very sure we would not succeed. We live in a world where litigation has primary purpose over common good and common sense. This cream has saved thousands and thousands of people from short term medical intervention and life long scars but because a small number of people have not had the same outcome as the majority then it has been banned. 100% success rate is never considered reasonable anywhere with anything until litigation gets involved. Good luck with the pursuit of this miracle cream. However I think it’s a lost cause. I’m sorry “Gem” has not had the good grace to place a follow up post putting this conversation to bed one way or the other - sharing the offer properly or removing it. Unfair of you “Gem”. I think we can safely say there is no offer and it’s now like cocaine in Coca Cola. Not available any more.

Re: Catweasel (# 1) Expand Referenced Message

Our family also grew up with it and although I have part of a tube left it is way too old to perform the miracles it once did.
Can I get the formulation/info as well so that I might order some?
Please and thank you kindly.

How about sharing that compound info for us in the states. I have a great compounding pharmacy that could make it here if I had the recipe. Thanks
