Butesin Picrate - compounding

Hello. I'm from Australia and had been sorry to learn that Butesin Picrate cream was removed from commercial sale. My daughter (a registered pharmacist with Pharmaceutical Compounding exp.) recently suffered burns while she was home cooking: I said my "often quoted regret" about the cream's discontinuation. We have - between us - located the original (1%) pharmaceutical compounding instructions for it and provided it's not large scale manufacture I can arrange to put you in touch with the compounding pharmacy - only in limited supply for individuals though (like many of us who grew up with this cream in our mothers' first aid boxes!). One ingredient (apparently) had cancer-causing discussions at scientific circles... and that's part of the PR disaster that pr...

Cream for Burns

I had asked for assistance in finding this product once before, but I think I may have spelled it's name incorrectly. This is a cream that comes in a tube that is used for smaller-scale burns: when you touch an iron, hot pot, stove, etc. It works like a dream, but seems to be impossible to find in any pharmacy, at least in the places I asked for it. Any suggestions, please pass them along. Thanks. ## In the U.S. it is listed as being the main ingredient in several brand names, such as: Almay Anti-Itch Lotion DermaFlex Pramagel Lagol and Xylocaine. So you may wish to try looking for it under those names at your local store and pharmacies. ## Verwan, Thank you for the information about the burn cream I inquired about. ## I've known of this cream since I was a kid. My mom brought i...

butesin picrate burn ointment - availability

Where can I find butesin picrate burn ointment? ## Hi Kathye, Based on my research, Butesin Picrate does not appear to be available anymore from the proposed manufacturer (Abbott Australasia). However I did come across an older post back from 2011, stating that there were pharmacies in Guatemala who carried it under the Spanish name Picrato de Bustesin. This information can be viewed in the following thread: Discuss/butesin-picrate-burn-cream-195494.htm One other thing I'd also recommend doing, is browsing through some of the other message boards here discussing this medication. Perhaps you can find more specific details on it's availability by searching in this way. On a side note, aloe vera gel is also a good substitute for burn treatment if all else fails. Hope this helps!

Trying to find a particular drug

I live in New York City (Manhattan) and cannot seem to find any drugstore that sells Butesin Picrate. It is great for minor burns, but it seems to have disappeared from my local stores. Can anyone help? ## I have sent an email to Abbott Australasia Pty Ltd. Their name is on the bottom of the tube that I have almost finished. I hope to get a reply soon. Perhaps if you email them also we might get some results. ## I think Butesin Picrate is TOO good. A tube lasts a long time. I was told that was why they stopped manufacturing it. Surely enough decades have elapsed for other labs to begin producing it. I am squeezing some last bits onto a sunburn I got recently. I was first told about BP by a nurse back in the 50's! She said they used it in hospitals with great success on burn patients...

Why Not Butesin Picrate?

I have used butesin picrate in the 1950's on two major burns, in both cases with excellent results. I am not aware of any drawbacks, except for the very strong yellow color. I would like to know what was the reason for this ointment to be discontinued because, if there is no terrible aftereffect, this is the best burn first aid I have known. ## I really don't have a lot of information on it, there isn't even really a monograph for it, but I think this is due to the fact that most of the products that contain are over the counter items. One that would be easiest to find would be Almay Anti-Itch Lotion, though I am not sure how well it would work for burns. Does anyone else have more information on this?
