Anyone heard of methadone clinics "watering down" the methadose? There have been people at my clinic complaining of getting sick in the evening all of a sudden.

Okay so let me explain they started adding water to it because it is more or less for preventive measures so that children and people that are not able to tolerate the medication or have a tolerance to the medication don't pick it up and drink the little bit of liquid left in the bottom of the bottle they did a study I guess I was reading about it last year where they tested 200 bottles that they had patience cap off at the clinic one day and every bottle at average had between 5 and 7 mg still left in it which is enough to kill two year old it said. So the reason that they add the water to it is because it dilutes it make it safer so if a child does pick that bottle up instead of being 5mg will be more like 1 or one and a half. Adding water isn't a problem if they're taking something away and putting the water in place of it. When they switch the bottles out I've seen someone from the state come in and do it thoroughly and this woman took out a scale and was weighing the bottles that she was dispensing I want to say she weighs what five bottles. No I seen or clinic Add Water straight to the bottle that is attached to the dispenser that's an issue because that means are watering down the medication by substituting the medication with water. If they're adding water to the bottle before they put your medication in that is a good thing not a bad thing and honestly it probably makes it so it's not so nasty because it tastes like s***. It's horrible. Our Clinic is the Cherry methadone and it was red when the first Clinic opened and now it is barely pink

But the dose is still in there. By adding water is just adding volume to it, just like pharmaceutical companies add binders and fillers to the tablets, if they didn't the pill would be so tiny. But it's not taking anything from your dose. When I go to the clinic once every 4 weeks I get medicated at the window and get my take homes, after drinking my dose there is the water dispenser to drink some water, it's not taking anything away from your dose. Like I explained before, if someone spiked your drink at the bar with Rohypnol it's still going to work,. Just because it's in the drink does not mean it is cut or whatever. It's still in there, the exact same dose. Believe me. I have been on MMT for over 25 years and I know what's going on. Even the doctor gives me compliments and tells me that "You are really well informed". I'm not trying to brag or anything but please trust me.

The clinic my husband goes to is watering it down and they tell you they put water in it! It doesn't matter if its 14 dollars or 140 dollars its our, money we should get what we pay for!!!! I can't speak for everybody but we got put on methadone so that we could live again! So that we could go to work clean our house take care of our kids. Just because we are addicts doesn't mean we're complaining just to get more drugs. We work hard for our money and if we're supposed to be getting something then we should be getting it! So you can say that we're just complaining to get more drugs or whatever they're watering down the s***

You are getting the dose, it's in there! When you go to a bar and order a Rum and Coke the amount of rum is still in there, it's not getting taken away by the Coke! So easy to understand, I already gave several examples.

Re: Tt (# 106) Expand Referenced Message

Please read my posts. I give examples water doesn't take anything away, it's just adding volume. If someone put 3 drops of Cyanide in your 12 oz. can of soda do you think that the Cyanide isn't in it? Of course it's in it, by adding water it's not removing your dose, it's still in there. Do you understand what I mean?

I have been on methadone for 22 years for a chronic pain condition and I receive 14 take homes at a time and at my clinic in Santa Cruz California Janice is what it’s called and “ when they’re literally pouring my 14 individual take homes right in front of me actually watching her pour all of them so I know with 110% certain they ask you if you would want water or not and for myself anyway they always have everything poured before I get there it’s like it’s all ready for me to grab and go because irregardless of what time of days (They’re open from5:30am and they stop dosing people at 12:30pm) and not to mention that pretty much anyone else who’s been on methadone for a good length of time already knows that you’d definitely be able to immediately taste a difference Plus; Right when your dosing at the dispensing window if you tasted a serious difference in the regular taste of the amount (milligrams) immediately seek medical attention immediately!! only then (Definitely don’t go outside you your clinch while you’re pleading your case by the way!! Very Impt!!” disputing your issues with Nursing/ Management at your clinic basically when there’s of what you’re drinking-you can tell if it’s got the “normal amount”quite a bit (Normal Amount) can.. Occasionally I will take 3/4 of my dose in the morning and the other fourth in the afternoon sometime and I always put the water into my bottle that Im going to drink that Day (I get them with no water so I can tell the differences when I’m drinking the little one versus the big one so I think it’s just a common issue depending on how water down they put your toes what your dose actually is because if it’s not that high they’re gonna add a lot more water to it at least that’s what I’ve seen over the years with different happening to different people at along the way so keep that I’m mind…
I’M SERIOUSLY VERY CURIOUS ABOUT THIS AND HOW YOUR DOING HERE AND NOW!! ?? PLEASE LETME KNOW WHATEVER THE OUTCOME TURNED OUT TO BE AND ARE YOU STILL FEELING PHYSICALLY UNCOMFORTABLE BECAUSE YOU BELIVE YOUR DOSES ARE BEING-TAMPETED WITH AND GOD FORBID WHAT HAPPENS NEXT? She’ll definitely lose her job, ruin her registered nurse career…

Methadone isn't cheap when sold illicitly and a thief can find a way around cameras. Anyone working at a methadone clinic in a poor area will be approached by someone wanting it. Get real.

Your 100% right the water does not take away from your dose u still get your dose. And the reason why they add the water and food coloring to the bottles is so that people don't shoot it up

Hi, ok so your question is a good one & actually might be a feasible concern about whether or not one should suspect a metered the dea controls monitors the machines as well as count information of liquid methadone maintenance doofs very closely with plit being possibly diluted, watered down, or tampered while dispensing thts usually done by a staff nurse which would make the client's daily dose...I cant speak specifically either way on any accounts of there being such a case reported but likewise anything is possible now a dayd so please take into consideration a few very important factors when in treatment for chemical dependency & in this case one should be cautious about what other clients are gossiping about such as what others doses withdrawal symptoms every single person requires higher or lower doses, can absorb as well as metabolizes and discretes the methadone dose completely differently than the person next to them... not to mention interactions (may increase or decrease the overall absorption) as well other medications prescribed not to mention specific health conditions they have, age, weight, how high or low the specific dose is, & i body metabolizes the methadone, like wise certain otc meds, multi vitamin / mineral supplements, having a weakened immune system and so on their own other medications affect how the medication makes each individual feel various and... Also take into consideration whether or not they take care of themselves, & if are they still having hard time abstaining from using illicit drugs regularly, getting a good night's rest to function overall probably as well as eating a balanced diet are well hydrated all can play a key and important role with how somebody feels after taking a medication if you feel however that your methadone maintenance dose may have been tampered with you may request to have your levels taken or more specifically whats called a peak and trough evaluation which takes into metabolism illnesses medication so on and so forth. the results will indicate whether or not your body is absorbing too much, not enough, possibly Medical and lastly it also pinpoints whether the prescribed dose is actually digested everyday... just remember every person is different. their history what they also take for medication if they're still using drugs, how they sleep, yada yada yada, and affect how much of the methadone you can feel....good luck, take good care :)

I have been going to my clinic for 2 and a half years and have had no problems there just when I started tapering down too fast I had withdrawals but they put me back up 5 more mg to stabilize me then started coming down slower but its fine now. They put water in my dose after the the dose has been dosed. Never had any problems with this. Have a counselor who is great and had once been addicted herself. You would never know it by looking at her. She is caring tho and she will talk as long as I wanna talk. So I think ya'll just wanna complain. Have ur dose increased, its the same amount of money and try that.

Yes of course but at the same time look at the character and personalities you see on the staff at methadone clinics, it's more than possible, it's probable.

Re: Jeff C. (# 8) Expand Referenced Message

I've been on the MMP FOR 22 YEARS. I am going to the sister clinic of the one I go to now due to it being closer to home. I had been going to the first clinic for 14 years. While I was there then let's just say person in charge got arrested by the FBI local sheriff's office and the local police also assisted on the arrest. So yes this person was taking half the bottles of methadose and filling it up with water. Oh by the way I was there I witnessed this with my own 2 eyes him being arrested. Now this was a big clinic so in the morning there would be at least 50 people in line waiting for them to open. One day 10 or 15 people started asking questions if anyone else was sick I mean there was a lot of complaints. So this went on for 2 weeks or longer PRIOR to the uh boss being arrested. Now the clinic I go to now is spot on I haven't witnessed any irregularities in the years I've been there. Now they are very strict on take homes diversion call backs and drug screens. At this clinic they test for 22 different kinds of drugs and they are all done by gas spectrometry no dip sticks involved. So yes it does go on but some people just need an increase I'm on 185 and have been for many, many years. I have no problem at this time methadose wise so I hope this helps.

wow. my clinic swapped from sealed bottles to machines with the tube and i really havent noticed any difference. unless someone is adding enough water to make it visibly different, i doubt you could tell much difference. chances are, most of this is in your head. it is a very mental thing you know!!!

Just because the owner of the pharmacy buys the methadone cheap it doesn't matter how cheap it costs for the employee's, my ex was qualified to serve methadone at her chemist and managed to steal humdreds of ml on the sly every month. She was and still is a non user though.

It is more likely that they've gotten tolerant to whatever dose they are currently taking.

That can happen with any medication, when you are taking it for awhile at the same dosage. There is no precise time frame, it can take years for some people and just a few months for others, it depends on their bodies.

Learn more Methadone details here.

Has anyone discussed it with those in charge?
