I am in Massachusetts and another adderall shortage, so far it's the 30mg. Manufacturer will not give my pharmacy a date that they can supply. How is a shortage possible, I tried every other drug out there and only adderall works, if I don't take it I cant function at work and will end up loosing my job.

I am very sorry about the problem you're having. Have you had any luck finding it, yet?

Unfortunately, shortages occur almost every year. Each manufacturer is assigned an allotment by the DEA, which is based on the prior years demand for legitimate prescriptions. Once they hit that manufacturing limit, they have to go through a process to request an adjustment to their allotment, and wait to see if it is approved, before they can start manufacturing, again.

It should also be noted that their application year, and manufacturing year is not the same as our calendar year.

This is done to try and help prevent theft, and diversion, by keeping better track of the supply, however, it seems that what it does the most is cause issues for people like you that really need your medication. While they try hard to aggregate numbers, I've not known a year, so far, where they have managed to adequately estimate and ensure that supply meets demand.

I know this information doesn't help solve your problem, I am just letting you know why these shortages seem to occur so frequently. Recalls, manufacturing issues, scarcity of raw materials, and other problems can also contribute to shortages.

If you cannot function for a short period of time without Adderall, then it's an addiction. Get help.

Re: David Stein (# 2)

Would you say that to someone who is diabetic but who can’t get insulin?
It’s a medication treating a problem, that of course would come back when the medication isn’t treating it.
I would say if you function just fine without your medication then you really don’t need it and are just abusing it. Those people are the addicts.

Re: David Stein (# 2)

David - If you are still here - Do you take Adderall for a disorder like ADHD? Or any prescribed medicine for any mental condition? If not, you should keep comments like that to yourself. You shouldn’t assume or be so apparently callous. Saying that people you don’t even know are addicted bc they can’t function when without Adderrall is an unfounded statement. Just bc it can be addictive, or if someone can’t function well when without it, doesn’t mean that those people are addicts. To post such a blunt and uneducated reply to someone, and say that if they can’t function without it they simply are addicted and need help, is easy to say - but it is an incorrect generalization. But I’m sure you meant well.
