Amitriptyline For Migraine Prevention

There are a number of warnings about the possible side effects of taking Amitriptyline - some people get one or more, others none at all. In my case I suffered a migraine on and off every twenty four hours for very many years. About 15 years ago I was prescribed this drug (10mg daily) to ease the symptoms and frequency and initially it seemed to make little difference but I have not had a migraine now for some six years - whether it is the Amitriptyline or something else no-one can tell me, but I have continued to take them all this time. The effects of taking them long term appear not to be known, but I am, quite naturally, unwilling to stop in case the migraines return. I have also been very fortunate in that I have had no side effects at all ever since I started taking them. I am just making the point that it is worth persevering if anyone does suffer from the debilitating effects of migraine but that Amitriptyline might take a while before it becomes effective.
