Amitriptyline And Citalopram Interactions

I just started taking the lowest dose of Amitriptyline (1x daily) to try to help me sleep. My concern is I've been taking Citalopram 20mg (1x daily) for over 5 years now. As soon as my terrible sleep pattern regulates I'll go off the Amitriptyline.

Will taking both of these cause any adverse effects?

Amitriptyline, the generic for Elavil is a tricyclic antidepressant.

Citalopram, the generic for Celexa is an SSRI antidepressant.

They can be used together, however, you may experience aggravation of the side effects, which may include: nausea, drowsiness, headache and dizziness.

You should also be certain to keep all doctor's appointments while taking this medication, as their monitoring is very important.
