2172 Hydrocodone Efficacy
(Newest replies first)

Updated

I thought I was going nuts until I googled this strange and worthless new pill. Definitely NOT the same and I will be calling my pain management doctor and have something else prescribed if this is how it's gonna be. I wonder if walmart has the "real deal"... gonna give walgreens a talking to too. How dare they try and trick bag the public like this! Chronic pain is nothing to take lightly.

When I complained to Walgreens, they told me to call the manufacturer. I contacted the FDA, filed a report. Upon going through our meds, most are activas, my husband's heart meds, too. I think I will talk to Walgreens again, see if they have another manufacturer, if not, move all prescriptions to another store. When my husband took my script to Walgreens by accident, they said that they had other manufacturers, it just cost more.

54 blue Honda,

There's a simple way to prevent getting different generic type drugs. Simply ask the doctor to prescribe brand name necessary. This medication can produce drug dependence of the morphine type so it carries a risk for habituation. It all comes down to a risk to benefit ratio when deciding to continue administration of this drug type.

Hello, Madkatt! How are you? I'm very sorry that this tablet doesn't work for you.

However, no one is trying to trick the public. Under the Hatch-Waxman Act of 1984, generics are allowed to differ from the name brand by as much as plus or minus 20%, in the amount of the active ingredients. They also don't have to measure against each other, only against the name brand. This was done to help get generics on the market faster and the FDA considers it an acceptable therapeutic window. Most people will not notice a difference.

But, there are cases where someone has been taking the same one for a long period of time, so when they are suddenly switched to a different one, they may experience problems.

For example, in this case, I'd be willing to make a guess that this new one is slightly lower in the amount of the active ingredients, which may explain why it isn't helping you.

The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

I know this doesn't help fix your situation or alleviate your pain, I'm just informing you of why some generics don't seem to work as well as others, or some may seem to be more potent.

Since the differences are so slight, most people do adjust after a week, or so, but it you don't, you should inform your doctor.

Is there anything else I can help with?
