Why Do We Get Cramp

I am Diabetic, and used to get a lot of very painful Cramps, mainly at nights. 2-3 per night, 4 -5 times a week. I'd tried most things, but with little effect. So I discovered that what would help was Potassium and Magnesium, as it feeds the Muscles. Tried an effervencent pill, and that gave me violant diarrhoea. (Aquilea). Then I was told to try half a Banana a day. I have now been 95% free of Cramps for 3 years. Great. ## Very glad you found something that helped you. Yes, the potassium is especially important to our muscle health and, if you are low in it, it will often cause bad muscle cramping. However, too much of it can also be dangerous, so please make sure you don't overdo it. There is a blood test your doctor can do to check the level for you. I always drop low, for re...

I have been on lo loestrin for about 7 months now and no longer have a period, just spotting on occasion. My doctor told me this was typical for many users and not a health concern. I have noticed, however, that I have mild cramps commonly (like I'm going to have a period) and it's not only during the same week of pills. It is actually quite random. Does anyone else have this happen? ## Yes, that can also be quite common when you are taking hormonal contraceptives. Learn more oral contraceptive details here. Have you mentioned this to your doctor? You might want to do so, to be on the safe side and make sure there aren't any other medical issues involved.

I have been on clopidogrel for 8 years after insertion of a stent. During this period I suffered the most painful cramping in my feet, legs and arms when performing moderate exercise. I recently visited my heart specialist who suggested that I may no longer need to take clopidogrel as a recent angiogram showed no significant blockages in my heart. I ceased taking clopidogrel and no longer suffer any cramping. The suffering I have endured for 8 years while on clopidogrel should be a warning to others. If I had been able to exercise without cramping it may well have been as beneficial as taking this drug. ## Hello, Bill! How are you doing? Wow! That's terrible, I'm glad you finally figured out what was causing it. Muscle aches and stiffness are known side effects, as listed by the...

This is the second time I've had jadelle implants. No period but monthly cramps which are really bad. The last cramps I had were excruciating. Felt like I was in labor. My hair is thinning our and I've gained weight but my eating habits are the same. I'm having it taken out. The cramps are unbearable. ## Unfortunately, Sammy, those can be side effects of this medication, according to the U.S. FDA. You may also experience nausea, headache, and spotting. I am sorry that the cramps were that bad. When are you having it removed? Has anyone else experienced this?

i have severe paint in my lower abdomin for more than two years. went to several doctors. all reports show normal. did a colonoscopy n CT scan. it like cramping pain and last for a while. there is so much gas bloating in my abdomen. most of the time, have loose motions or semi and dark in color. dont know what is the cause of the pain. have numbness in my feet sometimes. ## Have you looked into dietary causes? Usually such gas, diarrhea, cramping and etc. are all symptoms caused by foods, or beverages, according to NIH reports. Although, some medication can also cause such symptoms. Do you take any medications regularly? What were the results of the colonoscopy and CT scan?

I used Progesterone for 2 months and developed leg cramps shortly after using. They only got worse so I was told to discontinue this but wonder how long before the leg cramps go away? ## Leg cramps and spasms, normal walking impossible, leg muscles weak and not responsive because normal passive messages not being communicated properly. Hypertensive medication and/or medication for cholesterol is responsible for this condition in all cases where this side effect applies. I''ve had some relief after many years with my current prescription medication, namely vasocardol am, karvezide pm.

for leg cramp ## Have you looked into trying Glucosamine supplements? Glucosamine + Chondroitin is a joint supplement to promote healthy joints during exercise or daily activities in general. It is also used in the treatment of arthritis. Many health food stores and grocery stores carry this joint supplement combination. You can view more information in the link below... There is also Glucosamine + MSM, which may be worth researching as well. These supplements however take time to build up in your system, so you may or may not notice it working for a while. My suggestion other than that is to stretch at least 30 minutes a day and drink lots of water. Please post back if you have any other questions or concerns.

History: today is 3rd day of use, 50g/once a day. Used for opiate dependence, 7 days after last dose of Suboxone. No other symptoms but moderate/strong stomach pains. Some sleeplessness. Any remedies? Other folks experience? Does it go away? Most sites say should not be a side effect for more than a "few days". ## Suboxone has a long half-life. The symptoms you are experiencing at seven days post last usage are most likely withdraw from Suboxone. Some patients do experience some GI disturbance when first starting naltrexone but, they should pass in a week or less. If the symptoms dont go away by that time consult your health care professional. I hope that helps.

I have been taking sprintec since august of 2011. Before that i was taking ortho tricylen lo but my new gyno switched me to sprintec. Today in march 2012 i started cramping and spotting. I am not supposed to start my period for another week. I take it at the same time everytime except this last week i have been off on taking it regularly. should I be concerned? ## Those can be normal side effects of taking an oral contraceptive, especially if you've been taking it at irregular intervals. However, if you are concerned, there is no harm in discussing it with your doctor to be sure. Other side effects may include nausea, dizziness, acne, mood changes, and weight changes. I have been on Lo Loestrin Fe for 3 years now and have only missed one or two pills ever, but not recently. I got my period when I was supposed to for the first time in months. It came 9/1-9/3. I had unusually bad cramps during my period but i assumed it was because i hadn't gotten it for a while. My boyfriend and i did have unprotected intercourse since my last period. On 9/14 i started getting period like cramps in the afternoon followed by slight bleeding which increased today 9/15. Is this just my hormones being weird or did i somehow get pregnant? ## Hello, Leah! How are you? If you didn't miss any pills, then it is most likely just your hormones being weird, unless your doctor feels there is some reason to be concerned. The FDA lists the typical side effects of oral contra...

Knee problems from years of racquetball - miniscus are gone - doc prefers me do the Rball for heart health rather than knee replacement. (ME TOO!!!). Incredibly - Meloxicam (15 mg / day) has ZEROED the pain. The problem I have developed after about two months is leg cramps - usually calf muscles & usually during the night - a couple of times a week. Is there a fix for these leg cramps? ## According to the NIH, the most common cause of nighttime leg cramps is low potassium levels in the body, this medication has been known to cause dehydration in some people that take it, which could contribute to the problem. How much fluid do you take in each day? Do you eat any potassium rich foods, such as oranges or bananas? ## I drink 6 to 10 Gatorade G2 (smallest size) a week and eat bananas o...

I have been on lo loestrin for 7 months now. I have loved it until this past week. I normally have no period, and never any cramping or spotting. Two days ago, I started cramping, and yesterday started spotting. Today when I woke up, the cramps feel worse than any period I've ever had. I am 90% perfect with taking my pills. Any day I forget I always take two the day after. Has this happened to anyone else? Is this normal? ## If it helps ease some of your concern, "bleeding irregularities" are listed as one of the most common side effects associated with Lo Loestrin. According to the patient prescribing information: "Unscheduled (breakthrough or intracyclic) bleeding and spotting sometimes occur in patients on COCs, especially during the first three months of use. Will sulfameth/TMS 800 causes cramps ? I've been takeing it for a week and have bad cramps in the top of both feet at night. ## Sulfamethoxazole with Trimethoprim is an antibiotic that is used to treat various types of infections. It is not listed as causing cramping like that, except for in the stomach on some rare occasions. Usually night time cramping of the legs and feet is caused by being low in Potassium. Do you eat a proper, nutritious diet? Are you on any other medications, such as diuretics that can cause you to lose Potassium? ## I have taken two does of Sulfameth and my feet and toes are severely cramping up. Please advise.

My doctor has tried me on two different antihistamines now, Loratadine and Cetirizine. Both give me cramps. I have no deficiencies and am in health good. Any ideas anyone? Many thanks. I am in the UK. ## According to the NIH, they have been known to cause leg cramps as a side effect, in some people that take them. Other side effects may include nausea, dizziness, dry mouth, drowsiness, and headache. How long did you try each one? Such side effects usually go away, after about 5 to 6 weeks, once your body gets used to a medication. ## I was on Cimetidine for almost two years and Loratidine for three months. Enough time to connect them to leg cramps. The Loratidine also caused me to have very vivid dreams and so I rarely felt refreshed int he mornings! ## I was on Cetirizine about two yea...

I recently visited my OB/GYN with concerns about adverse reactions due to stopping Loestrin24. My husband and I are trying to conceive, and to remedy my intense headaches, severe cramping, and heavy menstuation my doctor gave me a 3-week sample of Minivelle. Everything I have read states this drug is used during menopause. Why, then, has my doctor chose this for me at 25 while trying to conceive? ## Even the manufacturer's webpage directly states that Minivelle (estradiol transdermal system) is a prescription medicine patch that contains estradiol (an estrogen hormone), used to treat moderate to severe hot flashes due to menopause. That said, I too wonder why your doctor would have prescribed it for fertility reasons. Did he/she check your hormonal levels to see if you were ever low...

has anyone experienced leg cramping while taking lisinopril? How long were you taking before the cramps started? Are the cramping in one or both legs? When does the cramping occur, at night or while walking or during exercise or some other time? Have you found anything to help with the cramping or did you stop taking the drug?Any other details you could provide would be great, thank you ## Hello, Sandy! How are you?
