I would appreciate any information about taking amoxicillin capsules with liquids such as fruit juices (especially citric), carbonated beverages, and other liquids like Gatorade. I was told that such liquids, which contain acids, can actually destroy the drug. This is an important question for me. Thanks. ## Best to take with full glass of water there is delayed absorption if taken with food. ## Can Amoxicillin be taken with milk? ## You can take it with pretty much whatever you want, they just suggest water because that provides the fasted and easiest method of absorption. Other beverages, such as Milk, Juice and etc. may delay the absorption. ## can i have some drink with alcool during taking amoxicillin cps? ## No. You CANNOT take amoxicillin with alcohol AT ALL. I repeat DO NOT ## C...

My wife has had a sinus infection for about two weeks. Today she went to the doctor and they prescribed this medication and also prednisone. She took the medication, the amox..., with food, however, she has had an extremely bad headache since taking this medication. Is this a normal side effect as well or should I consult a physician on her behalf ## It is very hard to say, either one of the medications could be causing the headache, or it could be a symptom of the sinus infection itself. Has she consulted her doctor? Amoxicillin with Clavulanic Acid, the active ingredients in Augmentin, is an antibiotic, so it may cause other side effects, such as: nausea, dizziness, skin rash and diarrhea. I started with a tooth abscess in one of my front teeth where I had a crown/cap put on after a root canal years ago. I can see where food can get under the crown but I also have a swelled throat, neck, and top lip. I have taken Amoxi-Clav 875-125 3 times so far, two yesterday and one today. I am supposed to take them twice a day but I don't feel much better and now my top lip is swollen. When I sleep I wake up feeling like there is a bump in the back of my throat that I cannot swallow nor spit it out. Am I doing the right thing? Or does it sound as though the med is not strong enough to handle the infection that I have? Any suggestions are welcome. I have been brushing teeth, rinsing with peroxide (which of course I spit it all out) and warm salt water. Let me know what you think pl...

I was prescribed this huge pill after telling doc I had a problem swallowing even water! Also she found a huge cancer sore the size of of a silver dollar on the right size of my throat at the ear! I suffered a swollen tongue with loss of taste for food and now since I stopped taking them my tongue is reducing swelling but I have not taste! Everything I eat or drink tastes like salt and burns my tongue. I cannot eat basically but I have to eat turkey tastes like salt, beef tastes like salt and it burns. Crazy! What the hell is going on? Im miserable! ## Hello, Maureen! How are you doing? Did you mean a canker sore? If so, that can be a typical occurrence with them, if you view the details provided by the NIH, they tend to cause changes in our perceptions of taste. If your tongue is burni...

I have a prescription for amoxicillin 875 mg twice a day for uti.. It upsets my stomach a bit so I wondered if I can break them in half and take them 4 times a day. Maybe it will help with my stomach irritation. ## Hello, Sixcharm! How are you? No, it would be best to take them as prescribed, but you can try taking them with a meal, rather than on an empty stomach. Just avoid dairy foods, which can sometimes affect the absorption of some medications. Side effects may include nausea, dizziness, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with?

My son has a horrible cough for days now following an up and down temp. I have a few 500mg of Amoxicillin capsules from my recent dental root canal fun times. Is it alright for me to break the capsule and put a small dosage into his juice/food? He gets bad anxiety at the doctors office I'd like to spare him the upset if it's something I can take care of at home. ## Hello, Ally! How is your son doing? No, that's never a good idea. He may not have an infection, if he does this may not be the appropriate antibiotic to treat it, you could end up giving him too much or too little.. there are just too many risks involved. It would be best to see his doctor for a proper diagnosis and prescription, if necessary. The FDA classifies this medication as being an antibiotic and it's ...

Hi. I was given a prescription for cephalexin 500mg for 3x a day after having two teeth extracted. The second day of the dose my throat felt tight and also as if there was a lump or something stuck in my throat as well as a difficulty swallowing food. I stopped taking the cephalexin and the next day the feeling went away. My dentist prescribed me amoxicillin 500mg instead. My questions are, were my symptoms with the cephalexin a type of anaphylactic shock and could I be allergic to cephalexin? My second question is, is amoxicillin similar to cephalexin and could it cause a similar reaction? I've never had a reaction to amoxicillin before but I am worried after what happened with the cephalexin. Would it be safe to take the amoxicillin as well? Thank you so much for any information y...

my doctor prescribed this medicine and I have been taking for 2 days now. I am wondering if I could drink milk with this medication? ## If there are no warnings on the bottle or the monograph you received from your pharmacy, then it's generally safe to assume that there's no need to worry about it. While some foods and beverages are contraindicated with some antibiotics, the warning about such is normally given by your pharmacy. For instance, one that I was on recently specifically said it should be taken on an empty stomach, with only water, at least 1 hour before or 2 hours after any meal. If you aren't sure, then double check with your pharmacist, before doing so. Learn more Augmentin details here. Are there any other questions or concerns? ## Dealing with the augmentin 8...

Does alcohol diminish the effectiveness of Amox Clav 875? ## Hi Rudy, According to a medical news article I read, "Drinking alcohol while taking these tablets does not usually cause any problems. However, some people who drink alcohol while taking antibiotics similar to amoxycillin and clavulanic acid have experienced adverse effects." Aside from the typical side effects, I would personally suggest taking it easy on the alcohol for the sole reason that alcohol can be hard on your liver. You want your body's immunity to be at full force when attacking the infection. My theory is if your body is working hard at metabolizing fatty foods, alcohol, or any other substances that aren't "clean", then it's not going to be nearly as efficient when it comes to fighting ...

80 lb dog = how much amoxicillin? ## I have 250mg Amoxicillin capsules, but my dog only needs 60mg. How would I handle this? Rocky weighs 6 1/2 lbs. I believe I calculated the dose correctly. ## Can the Amoxicillin 400 mg (bmp 196) green tablets be crushed and mixed with food to give to my dog? ## How much amoxicillin tr k clv 500/125 is safe for an 8lb dog? She has skin irritation after her cycle. ## Hello, According to the NIH "The recommended dose of amoxicillin in dogs and cats is 5-10mg/pound" so a dog who is 80 lbs should have 400-800 mg. Since this is such a wide gap I suggest you call into your vet office and see what they suggest, typically if they have your animal on file they will have a good estimate of what they should have. Best wishes and happy holidays.

I have a two year old prescription of amoxicillin from the dentist that I barely even touched. Now I'm showing syptoms of an UTI because I never drink any water. Would it be safe to take now? ## Hello Mike! How are you feeling? The first step to take would be to start drinking some water regularly. It is actually a misconception that you need to drink 8 8ounce glasses a day. That is the total amount of fluid your body needs for the day, but you do get a lot of it from your food and other beverages, so even adding just a glass or two of water can help. It is especially important for flushing out your kidneys, if you continue to avoid water, you may find yourself in kidney failure eventually. As to the Amoxicillin, medications lose effectiveness over time, so it will most likely not b...

Amox-clav makes me nauseated. What food can I take to ease my stomach? Can I eat yogurts? ## It may help to take it with a small meal, or snack, that can often help prevent the nausea. The FDA lists other typical side effects as possibly including dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash, and diarrhea. However, if the label warns you to stay away from dairy products, it would be best to avoid them, since they may prevent you from absorbing the medication, as you should. Has there been any change? What do you usually take it with?

My lungs have been conjested for six days now. A fever, can't sleep, can't breathe properly, and I have no appetite, lost ten lbs. My Dr. put me on AMOX-CLAV 875mg. Huge white horse pill, twice a day with food. Fever is down, appetite, ? a little better, but I don't have any energy at all. No side affects, lungs are still full of clear mucus. I will continue this medication for the ten days as prescribed. ## Thanks for taking the time to share your experience. It sounds like you're tolerating the medication pretty well if you're not experiencing many side effects. If you want to help speed up the process I'd also suggest staying away from dairy products in general, since they are all mucous forming by nature. In most cases, Amoxicillin usually gets the job done w...

We all knows that this colours is not healthy. Thanks ## Hi, Jusic! I understand your concern. What I'd suggest is asking your pharmacist/chemist to see what they may have available without dyes. There are some tablets that don't contain any here in the U.S., but I don't know what's available for you there. Learn more Amoxicillin details here. Are you allergic to them, or is it that you just don't like to take them?

I was wondering if a large amount of amoxil & clavunate k 500/125mg 30 ( that's exactly what my capsule says on it)will make you feel oozy, drowsy or sleep. Because I was told to take 2tabs 3 times a day and to take with food. Seems sketchy to me because I've been prescribed to this medication. Before and last time is said to take 1 tab twice a day. Or is it depending how bad the illness is? My job is a bit far from home and I would like to be driving like this. ## Hello, Luan! How are you? Yes, the dose can be dependent on the severity of the infection being treated. The FDA lists the typical side effects of this antibiotic as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, non-allergic skin rash and diarrhea. Is there anything else I can help with?

I have Gerd. Have taken amoxicillin many times for bladder infections, but now am taking AMOX TR-K CLV for the first time for another bladder infection. The Gerd is really "acting up". Any suggestions? ## What you are taking now is Amoxicillin with Clavulanic Acid, it is the generic for Augmentin and it is likely the Clavulanic Acid that is contributing to the increased GERD flare. I went to the dentist Nov 30 for pain in my back molars. She found I have a gum infection from my gum growing over my teeth. I had my wisdom teeth out 3 years ago and I guess that's how they healed and food gets stuck in the gums. I've been taking the Amoxicillin 3 times a day and the antibacterial mouthwash that was also prescribed. My gum pain almost seems worse today December 3. I feel like it's not working. I have an appointment in 4 days to go back, should I wait or call tomorrow? ## Hello, Savanah! How are you? Is there still food stuck in your gums? I am in Mexico with food poisoning and a friend gave me what was thought to be an ibuprofen to help with aches but then realized it was actually amoxicillin. Can I take just the one pill or should I take a course of them? ## There shouldn't be any issue, unless your doctor feels otherwise. My wisdom teeth have been coming in and I can't afford a dentist trip right now. And when I eat, food gets stuck up in/under one of my wisdom teeth, thus, causing an infection. I have 9 AMOX-CLAV 875-125 (substitute for Augmentin) left. Would/will that be enough to treat my infection? Is it more than enough? Not enough/need more? And would it even be useful for me to take those for a toothach/infection? Pill description: big/"horse pill", oval/oblong, imprint on one side " 875 | 125 " imprint on opposite side (flip over) " AMC " Please reply/respond if you have any knowledge on this, or would be able to offer advice & answer my questions!
