Is citalopram a sulfa drug? I just started this, and I'm starting to feel the tingling and burning in my hands. I'm allergic to sulfa. ## Hello, Bob! How are you? No, this is not a sulfonamide. Citalopram is classified by the FDA as an SSRI antidepressant. Its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, dry mouth, headache and weight gain. However, it is known that if you're allergic to one medication, there is a definite risk that you will also be allergic to others. Did you experience any other adverse effects?

I am allergic to sulfa antibiotics and was wondering something. I've noticed when I take magnesium sulfate/epsom salt bath that I can hardly function for two or three days from the pain. I won't take them anymore, but is there a correlation? ## They are not the same substance, but it is a known fact that when you are allergic to one substance, you will eventually find more that you are also allergic to, it is just the nature of the beast. However, allergies don't normally cause pain, they usually involved problems breathing, throat swelling, soft tissue swelling, itchy skin rashes, and etc. What type of pain are you experiencing? Is it skin sensitivity, muscle pain, or something else?

I'm allergic to bactrim with sulfer can I take bio-flex ## There is a risk that you could be allergic to other sulfa substances, especially since being allergic to one increases your risk of being allergic to others, as reported by the NIH. I found out that I am allergic to Bactrim, but I've taken these supplements without problems in the past and I take some sulfa based blood pressure medications without issues, but not all. Thus, I think it would be best to consult your doctor first, for your own safety. Are you allergic to any other medications?

I am allergic to sulfur and subutex in small doses is causing me to have reactions like I do when I have come in contact with sulfur. ## Does subutex have small parts of sulfa qualities in it like the steroid methylprednisolone has in it? ## Are you allergic to sulfa, or sulfur? They are not actually the same. What types of symptoms are you experiencing? The FDA warns that an allergic reaction to a medication usually includes symptoms like swelling, breathing issues, itching, and hives. However, the typical side effects of Subutex may include nausea, dizziness, headache, constipation, and dry mouth. Can you please post back with more details?

Until Dec 2016 I have been taking Arthrotec for years and never had a problem. Walmart will not take my plan D Envision RX Plus and so I switched to Walgreens which will. I am allergic to sulfa, sulfite, etc. and when I got Walgreens Arthrotec I got sick and had a blood clot. I ended up on Coumadin for probably the rest of my life and the doctor does not want me to take Arthrotec. Does Walgreens get their Arthrotec from Canada or some place that has a filler with sulfa? Arthrotec has worked for the pain of osteoarthritis and I do not want to have to go in the hospital again or give up the Arthrotec. They have told me to use Tylenol but it is useless. ## Hello Barb, I realize it's been one month since you asked this question and I don't have a direct answer for you. What I will s...

I was recently prescribed Minocycline for some cystic acne, I ended up in the ER with a severe allergic reaction that required more than 1 injection of epinephrine. I'm aware that I have a sulfa allergy but has anyone ever heard of Minocycline causing an allergic reaction for those who have sulfa allergies? Is Minocycline safe to take if you have a sulfa allergy? I need serious responses only please! ## These allergies may not necessarily be related, according to NIH reports, those who are allergic to one medication, or substance, often find others that they are also allergic to, and must avoid in the future. What type of allergic symptoms did you experience? I am assuming they must have been severe, if they resorted to epinephrine, instead of just Benadryl/Diphenhydramine. We were ...

I'm allergic to sulfa antibiotics and have been hesitant to start my new script- I just read some posts about it being common to be allergic to topamax with a sulfa allergy... Scared to try my new drug- ;) anxiety is why he prescribed it... Ugh ## I am really not sure how effective this would be at treating anxiety. Topamax contains the active ingredient Topiramate and it is an anticonvulsant, though it has also been used to treat migraines and bipolar disorder. Learn more Topamax details here. I haven't found anything mentioning it being common to be allergic to it, if you have a sulfa allergy. Additionally, a sulfa antibiotic allergy and other sulfa drugs aren't the same thing and being allergic to one doesn't necessarily mean you're allergic to the other. However,...

It doesn't bother my skin except it's causing a drying feeling; but if I'm not allergic to that and I'm allergic to sulfa related drugs would it be safe to use this soap anyways? I have a minor skin infection on my face. Can someone please help? ## They are different substances, sulfur is present in eggs, some soaps, and various other substances naturally. However, sulpha/sulfa is a different chemical, so being allergic to one does not necessarily equate being allergic to the other. It doesn't rule out your experiencing another, unrelated, allergy, though. For example, after taking an antibiotic containing Sulfamethoxazole, I discovered I have a sulpha allergy, but I don't react to sulfur in eggs, soaps, and other substances. Basically, one is natural, and one is...

I'm supposed to take one tablet twice daily until finishing treatment. I was given 23 pills for a urine infection and 15 minutes after taking it I got a rash all over. What should I do? I'm diabetic. ## Have you consulted your doctor? Sulfamethoxazole with Trimethoprim is an antibiotic and a non-allergic skin rash can be a normal side effect, but you should talk to your doctor to determine what type of rash it is. Since it appeared in such a short time frame, it may be an allergy to the medication and you might need to try something else.

I was put in the hospital for 7 days come to find out I was allergic to sulfa now im on subuoxon and I cant hardy breathe ## Hello, Juju! How are you doing? Has there been any change? Suboxone is an opiate, so it can cause respiratory depression as a side effect. What dosage are you on? The U.S. FDA classifies it as opiate that is most commonly used to treat drug addiction, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. However, there is a chance you may be allergic to it, as well. Typically, when one is allergic to one medication, they find others that they are also allergic to.

I can't take morphine, codene, nsaids, antibioctics, vitimins, sulfa, neurontin & prednisone.I have been on fentenal patches, & vicodin which does nothing for my pain. Now that vicodin is off the market they gave me the substitute norco 7.5 350mg. They suck. I know everything acetimin has been cut to 325mg but do these law makers realize we are just going to have to take more pills to get out of any pain? Next time I go to the dr. they will need me to be on the 10's.I don't think there are to many people like me, but in case there is does anyone know of some other pain med thats available? Looking at all the allergic reactions to Bactrim. If there is any way you can use another antibiotic, do so. This medication is seriously dangerous. I say this as a nurse, and also as a victim of a sulfa allergy. I was put on Bactrim for a MRSA infection. Long story short... Developed aseptic viral meningitis for the Bactrim. Ended up in the hospital for four days. Worst illness ever!!!! Look for fevers, severe headache, stiff neck. It will also cause "thrush" or yeast in your mouth. Painful. Rashes, vomiting, and loss of appetite are also common side effects. Avoid this medication if at all possible. Especially if you are immunocompromised! ## From what I've researched online, Bactrim does have quite an intimidating list of side effects / allergic reactions associated with ...

I know I am allergic to sulfa used as an antibiotic prescription but I have read there is a possibility I could be allergic to hair products with sulfa and foods with sulfa? ## Hello, Toni! How are you? Generally, no! They are usually different and most people are not allergic to all. A sulfa drug is not the same as sulfur in foods, hygiene products and etc. I'm allergic to Bactrim, which is a sulfa antibiotic, but haven't had a reaction to anything else, including other related drugs. Just be careful and proceed with caution. Is there anything else I can help with? ## My mom is allergic to bactrim and other medications containing Sulfa, she is also allergic to eggs. Allergic to penicillin... can I take Sulfamethoxazole-Trimethoprim 800/160 tabs? ## Yes, Sulfamethoxazole with Trimethoprim is a sulfonamide antibiotic, which is in a different class than Penicillin, so it is often given to those who have allergies to the others. I have just had the same reaction to Lisinopril-HCTZ as I've had to sulfa. What else is related? ## There's really too many different types of drugs and manufacturers to pin point every pill that contains sulfa. For future reference I would just clarify with your doctor and/or local pharmacy that you have an allergy to sulfa; this way your current and future prescriptions won't contain any. The link below lists a few medications that notably contain sulfa: Additionally, I think there are other "partial" lists floating around google, if you type in the right search words. I hope this helps!

I am allergic to sulphonamides in antibotic - when I took trimethoprim I got Stevens Johnson Syndrome. I went in hospitla yesterday. Was given morphine for pain and then co-codamol. Last night I felt very sick and dizzy and was kept in hospital this morning an hour an a half after taking more co-codamol i sat up in bed and had all the symptoms of passing out but didn't go fully. My heart was pounding etc. Could there be a link to my allergy as my skin has been itching and my arm burning but not rash as yet. I stopped taking them - doctor withdrew them. ## Hello, Vaness! How are you? I'm not a doctor, but I'm more inclined to think that what you experienced were just side effects from the narcotics. My mom is allergic to sulfa, she also cannot eat peas and eggs. Recently the dr gave her microbid and she reacted as if she had sulfa, yet the doctor said the medication does not contain sulfa. Is this medication a sulphite, meaning does it have other chemicals that can make someone who is allergic to sulfa react in the same allergic way? Any information provided would be appreciated. ## Hello, Jake! How is your mom doing? You're actually talking about 3 different substances. Sulfur, which is in eggs and peas, sulfa, which is used to make some medications and sulfites. Most people are not allergic to all 3, since they aren't the same. What type of reaction did she have to this medication? It is not a sulfa drug, but as an antibiotic, it can cause some side effects, such as nause...
