I have a niece that is pregnant and is allergic to Penicillin. Her regular doctor gave her Keflex for what they thought was a bacterial skin infection. Her mother, my sister, was just told that Keflex can cause deafness for an unborn infant. Is this true? Is there a website or someplace I can get information from about this? We are very worried. The skin condition ended up not being bacterial after all. Thanks for all info you can give us. ## I was put on it when i was pregnant with my son back in 2005. I was told to take it up to my delivery that it would be fine for the baby. He is going to be 5 in February and he is just fine and has no signs of anything wrong. ## Yes, according to the FDA reports, it has no known harmful effects on the fetus and is considered safe for use during pre...

Hi. I'm using oralcon for 4 months now and sometimes I forget to take the active ones, so I end up changing times or skipping doses. Is it possible for me to get pregnant? ## Hello, Bunny! How are you? Yes, if you completely skip some tablets, then it is possible for you to get pregnant. They need to be taken every day to protect you from pregnancy, because they work by preventing ovulation. Changing the time isn't a big deal, you can usually take one within a few hours of when you should and still be fine, but missing them leaves you unprotected. Is there some way you could leave a reminder for yourself to take one each day, at the same time? ## I took an emergency contraceptive 3 days after my period. I want to take advantage of my ovulation to get pregnant after a recent chan...

My depo shot just ended . I got it o December 8th, 3 months would make March 8th. If I were to be pregnant and didn't know and started taking Sprintec, what would happen to the baby? ## Hello, Candace! How are you? It would be best to check for pregnancy, before starting the oral contraceptive, if you have reason to suspect that you might be pregnant. However, oral contraceptives will not end an existing pregnancy, if you start them and are pregnant. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, irritability, breakthrough bleeding and PMS-like symptoms. Is there anything else I can help with?

My wife has been using Omnacortil 5mg daily each morning for the last year. Now she is 3 months pregnant and we would like to know if this medication causes any harm for my wife or my child during the pregnancy? ## Did she encounter any problems? Omnacortil contains the active ingredient Prednisolone, which is a steroid class medication and though no controlled human studies have been done, animal studies during pregnancy have shown evidence of harm to the baby. ## I had taken Omnacortil 20mg for 1 week during the end of my pregnancy and conceived a week later. Will that be harmful for my baby?

I'm 32 and I have been an opiate addict for about 3 years. It started innocently as treatment for my RA and just blew out of control. I tried detox and all that before and ended in failure, so I found a good Dr and started suboxone treatment and have not touched a pain pill since. However 4 months ago I found out I was pregnant and rather than risk a miscarriage from withdraw my Dr changed my script to subutex. I'm truly terrified of my labor because I have a phobia of needles so an epidural is out of the question for me. My Dr said they can give me a higher dose of pain meds thru my labor for pain but I'm so scared they will overdose me or harm the baby. What are the risks of taking pain medication while on the subutex? Does anyone know? ## I am not going to deny that labor...

I started having chronic pain two year ago when I had my daughter. At first I thought it was just typical after birth pains but after two months of being on 10mg percocets every 6 hours I knew that something must be wrong. Turns out I have endometriosis and interstitial cystitis. Drs are also suspecting at the moment that I have a bone density problem or maybe RA. I've gone back and forth between all my drs because one either diagnosis me but can't help me with the pain or they don't know what's wrong with me all together. I finally got a referral for pain Managment and the dr refuses to give me any kind of narcotic. Now I understand that they are cutting back on what they give patients because of the high level of abuse but when you have a 26 year old who can't cook...

I have had an infertility problem for the last 7 years. I have one 8 year old son. Me & my husband are both fine. What medicine should I use to conceive? ## Hi Fozi! I had infertility problems, due 2 Endometriosis. I just couldn't get pregnant. Went through a whole panel of testing. What I did, first of all , put my faith in God. Then, I went out and bought an ovulation predictor test. It tells u when u r ovulating. It kind of works like a pregnancy test , but, u test yourself 4 a few days during, almost, the middle of your cycle. U just follow the directions. U can buy it OTC, near the pregnancy tests. It's simple 2 use, and, it tells u when u r ovulating. Your best days of getting pregnant. I have 2 sons , and, I used the test both times. Don't give up hope. I will als...

I got the tablets for an infection and I'm pregnant. Will it have any effects? ## Eryko contains the active ingredient Erythromycin, it is an antibiotic that is used to treat various types of infections. And no, in the U.S. the FDA has found it to cause Hepatoxicity (liver damage) in pregnant women. While it is reversible, when the medication is discontinued, it can endanger both the mother and baby, so they have not approved it for use during pregnancy. I suggest you contact your doctor about why they prescribed this one and ask them about using an alternative medication. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I am 39 weeks pregnant and a hospital doctor gave me Anaerobyl 200 and Eryko 250 to use for a urinal/vaginal tract infection. Will it harm my baby? I just turned 26 and received a reclast infusion 2 years ago (the 23rd of Jan) will be 2 years exact. I'm a disabled vet. Since day once I have experienced severe bone pain. One endocrinologist told me if I were to get pregnant I would be a ticking time bomb. There is not one diagnosis to show how long it remains in your system, that It's all a guess. Nor can any one check to see if reclast is still in your bones. No OB/GYN knew about reclast, or believed at my age I could have full blown osteoporosis. Not could they tell me if it was risky to carry a child two years after infusion. Yet I did my research and it shows In animal studies malformations and miscarriages can occur (miscarriagages are caused chromosomal imbalance) therefore if I miscarried it would make perfect sense i...

Two weeks ago I took the plan B pill 20 minutes after unprotected intercourse. A week later I ended up with BV (doc said the pill threw off my ph balance) so she gave me metronidazole to take for 7 days. I took a pregnancy test on the 4th day of being on the antibiotics and it's positive. Could the pill and the antibiotics be causing a false positive or am I probably pregnant? ## The chances of getting an incorrect result on a pregnancy test are very small, so it is more likely that you are actually pregnant. Have you consulted a doctor to have a professional blood test done? Metronidazole hasn't been known to cause a false positive, according to the most recent FDA reports. Its typical side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache, and diarrhea. Ref: Medline Plus Metroni...

Am I protected against pregnancy? ## If you just continue from one oral contraceptive tablet to the other, without missing any tablets/taking a break in between, then you should still be protected against pregnancy. You can also do a safe switch by starting the new tablets, when you would start a new package of the former tablets, at the end of your menstrual cycle. Are there any other questions? ## I've been using Lady Pills for than a month, now I'm using the second box and I...

I started lo loestrin fe 3 months ago and I didn't realize until now you are supposed to take the white pills! Last month I had cramps and spotting when I should have had period. I haven't taken any white but never missed blue pills. I am 18 days into my new pack and am extremely worried I could have gotten pregnant. What are the chances?! ## Yes, you are supposed to take those ones, they do contain an active hormone, so there could be a risk of getting pregnant. Probably not a very high one, since theoretically, you were at the end of your cycle at that point, not in the middle where you'd normally ovulate. If you don't get your period, when it's due then having yourself checked for pregnancy would be a good idea. But otherwise, if you start, you're in the clear...
