I'm getting a colon test done and can’t take blood thinners. Is Atorvastatin or Felodipine a blood thinner? Should I stop taking them prior to my test? ## Hello Ann, Technically no, neither medication is a blood thinner. According to DailyMed Atrovastatin is a medication to lower cholesterol and Felodipine is used to treat high blood pressure by blocking calcium and relaxing blood vessels. Despite this both medications caution you to not take this medication prior to surgery. I strongly advise you contact your doctor to see if and when you should stop taking this medication.

I personally had high blood pressure for a number of years, but was able to control it by controlling my eating habits and exercising. What works for me may not work for everyone, but my initial advice is to look into natural ways such as: Low/no sodium foods to help reduce inflammation and water retention; supplementation of garlic, as well as calcium, m...

Cannot tolerate ACE inhibitors (24 hrs of coughing) nor calcium channel blockers (little help; leg swelling). On Benicar HCT and have persistent sinus problems and coughing that do not respond to allergy or sinus medications. Doc insists that the benicar is not the reason! Anyone else had this problem? How did you solve it? ## I have the same problem, am on Norvacs...a nurse friend told me it was probably the bp meds but I can find nothing to substantiate that. Help!!! ## Is it safe to take 2 pyridoxine 25mg plus 1 bilocor 5mg twice daily, over 50yrs female to lower blood pressure? ## Yes, these medications have been known to cause sinus issues, as reported by the FDA, which may include drainage, stuffiness, and congestion. want to know the side effects of Nifedipine Bp and also the best Bp drug as well as the best solution for Arthritis for a sixty year old. ## Nifedipine is a Calcium Channel Blocker, used to help control HBP, though it is also used as an antianginal. You will find most blood pressure medications share the risk of pretty similar side effects, they can include: nausea, drowsiness, dizziness and headache. There is no one medication that is the best BP drug for everyone. Some work better for some people than they do for others. That is why there are so many on the market and, sometimes, several are even used in combination for better BP control. Another class used to help lower HBP are Ace Inhibitors, here's a link for information on those and the medications available: There are also Be...

I`am taking nifedipine 60mg my doctor told me to increase it by 30 mg if the top side was over 151 so i did. I want to go back to 60 mg i monitor my bloodpressure each day ## Have you consulted your doctor about going back to the prior dosage? Nifedipine is a calcium channel blocker and it, as well as most other blood pressure medications, can cause rebound effects if the dosage is lowered or the medication is stopped suddenly. These effects can actually result in your blood pressure going higher, for several days and can also cause elevated heart rate. So, in essence, the dosage usually has to be lowered slowly, which is why it's best to discuss it with your doctor on the proper amount to lower it by.

Im on ramipril 10mg as bp remains at 100 so now on amlodipine 5mg in conjunction . I am fine re cholesterol and blood sug. No apparent reason apart from stress. Any ideas would be great. Plus has this combination wrkd for anyone. Only thing they have found is low calcium in my body. ## Hi, Beanie! How are you? Sometimes, there just is no explanation for why someone develops high blood pressure. I haven't been on that exact combination, but I've had to take other medications in those same classes. It's generally beneficial to combine them in the case of resistant hypertension, since they tend to increase the effects of each other. Learn more Ramipril details here. Calcibind Cellulose Sodium Phosphate

Sodium cellulose phosphate is a drug used to treat hypercalcemia and hypercalciuria. It has been used to prevent kidney stones.[1][2] This compound is an ion-exchange resin that can not be absorbed by the body. However, it can be used to restore the normal intestinal calcium absorption. When it is taken orally, it binds strongly to calcium and inhibits its absorption into the blood. From there, inhibition is caused due to the lower intraluminal calcium levels, ...

I am taking this vit. @50,000 units per week. Why would my Dr, want me to take this dosage for 5 weeks? ## My physician ordered this high dose because my blood reading was low AND a CT scan revealed Osteoporosis of my spine..... I had no symptoms . I was told the pills would merely stop farther erosion of the spine but would not cure present condition. Was also told it was important to have plenty of Calcium to help absorption of the Vitamin D., which my diet already contained, ## You should ask your doctor if he did a vitamin d level. While that dosage is a 'normal' dose to treat deficiency, unless you have a vitamin d level, that amount of vitamin d may not be nearly enough! You may need FAR more vitamin d in order to correct a vitamin d deficiency, but unless you get a vitami...

I was taking lisinopril 5mg for high blood pressure and had severe stomach and back pain after taking the med for 3 weeks. My MD switched me to amlodipine 5mg and the same side effects after 2 weeks. Since they are both calcium channel blockers, should I ask for a different class of drug to control my blood pressure? ## Hello, Susan! How are you feeling? These are not both calcium channel blockers, Lisinopril is actually an ACE inhibitor. It is also normal to experience side effects for the first 4 to 5 weeks you are taking a new medication, but they are typically transient and go away with time, once your body adjusts. However, if your pain is that severe, then yes, you may need to try yet another class of medications to lower your blood pressure. One option would be to try one of the ...

I am afraid of Prolia but doctors say that Prolia is the best medicine offered. ## I HAD THE PROLIA INJECTION 5 DAYS AGO AND HAVE HAD BACK PAIN OR SORE BACK FROM THE INJECTION.
