I take amlodipine besylate 10mg + lisinopril 40mg + metoprolol 25mg, but because it is a holiday, of course, my blood pressure is sky high, 197/101 at the lowest. How can I lower it fast? I need help. ## Hi Babs, Sorry to hear about your condition. I think from an outside perspective, the most I can suggest is to simply find ways to remain calm and stress-free throughout the day. It's always easier said than done, but if it were me, I may consider practicing meditation, taking a moment to stop whatever I'm doing & giving myself a break from reality (or other relaxing strategies you come up with). Some deep breathing exercises may be beneficial as well. Also, from a dietary standpoint, I'd find ways to cut back on sodium, heavily processed foods and any artificial ingredi...

I started taking Bystolic 2.5 weeks ago, stared with 5MG and moved to 10 MG off amlodipine-benaz 10/40MG, blood pressure has slowly increased, no is at 160/92. My heart beat was in the 60s now is at 50. Some dizzy spells, a little more loose than usual in the bathroom. I don't believe Bystolic is effective for me. It may require lowering to 5MG and adding back my old med. ## Hello, I don't know if you're interested, but there are many natural alternatives for Blood Pressure control that in my opinion can be just as effective as prescription medication (minus the side effects) if taken seriously. I personally had severe hypertension at 150/90, but was able to control it by controlling my eating habits and exercising. What works for me may not work for everyone, but my initial ...

Does ativan / lorazepam lower blood pressure at 1 mg tab? I am starting new bp meds that haven't kicked in yet. I was weaning off ativan but felt pressure was a bit high so I took a whole 1 mg for the first time in a week. I was down to 1 1/2 for the whole day. The ER gave me 2 mg to lower my blood pressure and it worked but I don't want to take 2. Will 1 reduce it some? ## ativan lowered my blood pressure really fast to where I almost kicked off with only 1 mg of this crazy medication I thought clonazepam was bad , but lorazepam take's the cake... Back to Clonazepam for me ... screw ativan = lorazepam... ## Wow, that is a very unusual reaction. In response to the original question, yes it can help to lower blood pressure. I'm having blood pressure of 130/50 and fasting blood-sugar of 110. Is it safe under the above condition to continue razel f5? Is it responsible for lower bp? ## 50 is normal low for an athlete or while resting in bed but, if you are standing and moving about and its that low then you need to go to the hospital. ## This medication is used to help lower cholesterol levels. The NIH lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, and joint/muscle aches. Are you on any other medications? What time of day are you checking your blood pressure? Have you consulted your doctor?

I take amlodipine in the morning for high bp and a water pill, at night I take Losartan and Lorazepham and I am on flexeril and 5mg of percocet 3x day for back pain. My BP is so high at night I can feel the heart beat in my fingertips and i lay awake for hours. I read where if I take potassium at night it will help to lower my BP. Is this true and if so, could it eliminate my BP meds at night. doc says it is stress related and rises when I am in pain. ## Hello, Shar! How are you? You should not take potassium, in addition to the Losartan, unless your doctor specifically says you should, because Losartan can also raise your potassium levels and building up too much of it in your body can be very dangerous. Have you actually checked your blood pressure at night, or are you just assuming i...

Its an expensive medicine and the doctors seem to be very interested in pushing it. The only thing good about it will be for the med corporations. ## Doctors will generally try to push new medications, to see if they work better than the old ones, since new ones are being discovered all the time and there have been many cases where something was new but found to be safer and more effective. Thus, it's just natural for a doctor to do that, to try to help their patients, as much as possible. Tyvaso is used to treat PAH, so yes, it can seriously lower someone's blood pressure, that's what it's really intended to do. Other side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache and vomiting. Are you taking it? How's it working for you?

I have been prescribed ramipril 5, telmisartan 40, losartan sodium 50 at different occasions for blood pressure. I want to know is there any harm in changing the medicines from time to time. Or one should stick to one medicine for BP. Please let me have your suggestion in this regard. Please note that alongwith this BP Medicine I have been taking Glibenclamide5mg+Metformin 500 mg (for diabetic) ## Hello, Kaaliya! How are you? You should take whichever medication your doctor has prescribed, unless they tell you to change it or to stop taking it. These types of medications take awhile to reach their full levels of effectiveness in your body, so switching too frequently wouldn't actually give them a chance to work. Which one are you currently taking?

My 88 yr. old dad has always had low blood pressure. Since a recent apendectomy, his ankles now swell, but blood pressure remains low at 90/58. Is there a drug that will only decrease his fluid retention? ## Hi Cher, I'm having trouble finding Diuretic medications that don't have the possibility of lowering blood pressure. However, I've posted a link below that gives some information about fluid retention and how to treat it naturally. wikihow.com/Treat-Fluid-Retention I hope this info helps! ## It would be dangerous to decrease fluid with low blood pressure. Theres a problem with his circulatory system and you should check for swelling or redness which is a sign of a blood clot. If you reduce water in low blood pressure it will cause fainting.

They say that if blood pressure isn't lowered by taking hyzaar 50/12.5 mgs once a day, then upping the dosage to hyzaar 100/12.5 mgs will not make much of a difference... Is that true? ## It really depends, if it doesn't work, at all, that can be true and the person will most likely need to try a different medication. If it helps some, but doesn't take it down to the ideal level, then a higher dose could help. I experienced this, when I first started Labetalol, the initial dose of 100mgs did help, but I wasn't at the best numbers, so we took it up to 200mgs and now it works very well for me. However, I've also had others I tried that did nothing, so my cardiologist didn't think it was worth trying higher doses, since they just didn't seem to work for me. The ...

My age is 48 and my blood pressure remains at 150 past one year I am on telmisartan and amlodipine combined with bisoprolol 5mg. Suggest how to lower my blood pressure ## Hello, Krishna! How are you? What types of foods do you eat? If they are heavily salted and very fatty, that will play a role in causing your blood pressure to be high. It can also be affected by someone's being overweight and being sedentary. So, if you're carrying a few extra pounds, you should work on losing them, preferable via proper diet and exercise, since those both also play a role in lowering it. And have you talked to your doctor? These just might not be the right medications for you to take, you may need to try something else. ## Since last one year my bp is 150/75. If you're blood pressure has been at normal levels on this dose, it's possible that the dose is now too high and you may need to take a lower one. Usually, higher doses are used at first, to bring someone's blood pressure down as fast as possible, then the doctor should be monitoring them regularly and they should be checking it themselves, so the dosage can be adjusted as needed. I have read that Norco and similar meds can raise blood pressure. I was wondering if it is the hydrocodone or the acetaminophen that causes your blood pressure to go up or if it could be the actual pain you are treating? ## In actuality, it could be any, or all. It really depends on the person, according to FDA reports, it would most commonly become elevated due to the pain. Most opiate medication, such as Norco are known to lower it, more often than they will cause it to become elevated. Is the person in question taking any other medications? Do they have any other diagnosed medical conditions? How high were the blood pressure readings?

I was told by my NP that Cialis can raise my blood pressure. I am taking BP meds regularly to lower BP for several years. Has anyone experienced blood pressure issues while taking Cialis? Thanks. ## Actually, this class of medications usually lowers it more, which is why it's advised they not be taken with blood pressure medications, because, as reported by the NIH, it could cause your blood pressure to drop too low, which may put you in danger. You could become ill, faint, enter into a coma, or encounter a fatal issue, if it drops too low, such as heart failure. Is there anything else I can help with? ## I took my very first 10mg Cialis 4 days ago. Had a little effect in the bedroom but not as good as advertised. Also within 2 hours my B/P was 180/95 (I do not have high B/P). I was...

I have been on clonidine now for approx 10 months, for high blood pressure. The doctors had tried several other medications but I had so many reactions and issues we decided that the clonidine patch would work best and it has. Yes there is some fatigue and some up and down numbers but in general I have done well. MY BP was all stress related , no non medical reason. So in the past couple of months have been able to alleviate most of the stress (refinance) and I started 500mg magnesium daily and within a month my BP is getting lower and lower and lower. I was wearing 4mg of clonidine and taking (2) 1mg pills during the day as needed. Now I am down to only 2mg a day and still my BP is staying below 115/64 which is vampire state for me. I forgot if I took my blood pressure medicine this morning. I take 20 mg of enalapril maleate in the morning every day. If I don't take it today will it hurt me or if I take a double dose will it hurt me? ## Hello, Linda! How are you? What did you decide to do? For future reference, unless your doctor specifies otherwise, it is generally more risky to skip a dose, since that creates the risk of your developing rebound high blood pressure and elevated heart rate, which could reach dangerous levels that create the risk of heart attack, or stroke, according to the NIH. Taking a double dose just once is usually not as dangerous, since it will generally only results in your experiencing more side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, and lower blood pressure....
