what would be natural ways to control bp- ## What are you current blood pressure levels? They need to be taken into account, because if it's too high, then you should use the medication(s) your doctor wants you to take to bring it down as fast as possible. They can always be adjusted later, if you use natural remedies that are successful and it starts getting a bit too low. And I want to stress that it is very important that you not stop any such medications, without your doctors approval. Stopping them abruptly causes the risk of your developing rebound hypertension, which can result in dangerously elevated blood pressure and heart rate. My cardio nurse practitioner is a big advocate of natural remedies and always tells me to try them, if they lower it too much, she'd rather we...

Recently while on vacation in Arizona, I got a severe headache ( I think from a strain?), went to a clinic & they said my blood pressure was 185/110. Their first drug (lisinopril 20 mg) was for blood pressure and also an injection of toradol. Two days later the headache was still there and they prescribed a pill (Butalbit/acetam/caf 40 mg/tablet ). The headache and BP are in control but I am concerned on taking a barbiturate, is there an alternative and what would be the process to eliminate the drugs. General research shows Butalbit is being discontinued?? or not a preferred choice. ## Hello, Marie! How are you feeling? I'm very sorry about the problems that you're having. There is a chance that the headache was due to your blood pressure being so elevated. It can cause sev...

Hi, I am an Indian, age 78, 5'7" in height and weigh 60 kg. I'm a vegan, I do yoga and light exercise. All parameters pathological test reports normal except that I've been on high blood pressure medicine for over 20yrs. Previously I was taking atenolol 50mg and amlodipine 5mg, whereas my blood pressure was quite controlled. About 4 years back symptoms of Afib developed. Doc prescribed telma CT 40/6.25mg, metoprolol 50 + cilacar 10 and xeralto 20 in the morning and telma 40 in the evening. My BP still ranges around 150/95, no improvement in Afib - which repeats every month or so. Is it not a case of being over-medicated? Can I go back to just taking amlodipine? How do I get rid of Afib? Are there any changes you can suggest? ## It is really hard to say, and it would be b...

I have suffered from high BP since 2006. Until 6 months ago too bendroflumazide and candesartan in low doses. I was advised to stop the bendroflumazide and continue with candesartan. This did not control BP and the dose was increased and I could not tolerate it at 16 mg due to serious joint pains. The dose was halved and in addition I was given 10 mg of lercandipine. I suffered swelling in my joints and legs and ultimately could not tolerate it. For a short while after I remain on 8 mg of candesartan. The swelling in my left leg did not alleviate and following an MRI scan I was found to have Sonk in my left leg .. ( blood marrow swelling ) with no medical reason and yet prior to tablets I was very physically fit and well with no injury. I have now had knee surgery to alleviate the sympt...

Had not taken BP tablet for a while, then had a test that showed the pressure was high, finds the med. I take has expired but still has a lot, should I just discard them or can it still be safe to use? ## Hello, Bingbing1956! How are you? Medications start to lose effectiveness over time, so it's not going to work as well, since it's been expired for 2 years. Beyond that, you need to see your doctor, get on a good, non-expired medication and stick with it. There is no cure for high blood pressure, it has to be continually controlled and you can't just take a medication until it's at normal levels and then stop, because it will go up, again. The medications also take time to reach their full level of efficacy in the body, so they aren't something you can just take as ...

is bystolic ever prescribed by a doctor as a temporary drug to lower bp, i.e. if someone suddenly experiences stress that cause a spike? in other words, is this a lifetime prescription or is out possible at some future date to stop once bp is under control? ## Hello, Michael! How are you? There is no cure for high blood pressure, per se…. but yes, there are cases where people have been able to successfully manage it with diet and exercise, so they were able to stop the medications. Of course, it's always doing to require diligence, because there's the risk of it going up again and getting out of control if you go lax on your diet or exercise routine. Is there anything else I can help with?

I am 57 years old and having marginally higher BP. Presently taking Telma H regularly and do not have any problem. BP when measured is normal. I read an article saying that taking Telma H can cause cancer. Please suggest ## Telma-H contains Telmusartan and Hydrochlorothizide and is most commonly used to help lower high blood pressure. As to the risk of cancer, it was shown to be only a slight risk, no more than any other medication and, since these studies were so small, they have not been accepted as valid proof, yet. So, there actually may not be any risk. If you are still concerned, then I'd advise you to speak with your doctor, because the risk of letting your blood pressure get out of control is much higher than the theory of a cancer risk that has been presented about these me...

After participating in an unrelated study, my BP was consistently high. So ok, time to get this under control. Doctor started me on the lower dose of edarbyclor. Two weeks on that and my BP was still high. So he upped the dose. Which I read on line is pretty typical. But this higher does? OMG! I'm dizzy all day. Not bad enough to prevent me from moving but darn uncomfortable. And my energy level is in the tank. Heart seems to be racing all the time. Dry mouth that just won't quit and it doesn't seem to matter how much water I drink. I have to wonder what the heck this could be doing to my kidneys. Oh and occasional diarrhea too! JOY! I told the doctor about the side effects and he suggested I now cut the pill in half. Do a half dose a day. But I see no change. I didn't t...
