HIGH BLOOD PRESSURE ## I take divon with hctz ,and have terrible leg weakness , I want to try and taper off , can i stop taking without major side effects ,it may not be the divon causing this but I thought I would try this ,before I explore other causes of this weakness ## Diovan HCT contains Valsartan and Hydrochlorothiazide, it is most commonly used to treat high blood pressure, edema, and certain cardiac conditions. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, hypotension, and dehydration. I used to have medical aid and was prescribed Co-Diovan 80 plus Twynsta 40mg. But then I got retrenched and had to receive other medication since the State does not keep these kind of medication. The State gives medication free of charge. I was prescribed a list of medication back since none were effective - my BP remained high. Most recently I got Atenolol 50mg plus Perindopril 4 plus Adco-Retic 2.5mg for water retention. My blood pressure remained non-consistent so I decided to rather go back to the Co-Diovan/Twynsta combination again. I must say that these medications are really expensive but since it is my health, I purchased them out of my own pocket. I have been using the Co-Diovan combination for the past 3 days but have noticed that my blood pressure ranges between 167/93 to 149...

Are the ingredients in Diovan 160 mg and Losartan 100-25 mg comparable if I run out of one can I switch to other? ## Hi Elaine, As far as comparing these drugs, I think it's not wise to assume that they have similar properties, since everyone can react differently to one or the other, despite having an equivalent dosage. If you're used to taking one or the other and have your doctors permission, I'd say it's fine to switch off between the two. However, at the same time I wouldn't necessarily anticipate having the same relief or results from two entirely different medications. On a side note: Eating whole foods that have little to no sodium and which are high in potassium and magnesium are solid dietary options for lowering blood pressure. These foods primarily includ...

I just increased my valsartan from 48 mg to 80 mg and suddenly my stomach is much larger. Is anyone else experiencing this kind of weight gain? ## Bloating and fluid retention can be side effects of this medication, according to FDA reports. You may also experience nausea, dizziness, headache, and hypotension. How much have you gained? Are you on any other medications? How much larger is it? ## Yes I have experienced the same thing an I’ve been also feeling pains in my thighs . When I climb the stair or do some dusting I get out of breath an I never felt like that til I started taking these pills. I have to see my doc this month I want to stop taking these meds ## Valsartan sucks! I was on this and it was terrible.

I'm trying to identify 2 small pinkish pills with a D O on one side and NVR on the other. Does anyone know what they are? ## It could be Diovan. It depends on the shape of the pill. ## Novartis lists this as being a 40mg Diovan pill, which contains the active ingredient Valsartan, it is most commonly used to treat, or prevent high blood pressure, and certain cardiac conditions. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination, and hypotension. Is there anything else I can help with?

I as put on Co Diovan BP medication 15 months ago after being admitted to ICU with what the cardiologist seemed to think was arterial fibrillation. He said it was exactly the right medicine for my problem. I have just come out of ICU again now after having a transient ischemic attack. I am now on 5 different medications. My question is could the Co Diovan which I was taking before, have had anything to do with the second problem. The specialist I saw now said no. My second question is what will the other medication I am on now do to me. I am onCarloc 12.5mg, Exforge 10 ml, Adco Simvastatin and aspirin. The cardiologist said I did not need aspirin, now I do. I also have to be very careful of any medication with sulphur in it as 10 years ago I got Stephen-Johnson Syndrome from a sulphur d...

Is it safe to take Diovan and Triamterene/hctz together? I just failed a flight physical partly because the ME said these two drugs shouldn't be taken together!! I've been taking them together for about two years as prescribed by my PCP. Really want to get completely off meds but presume I'll need to go slowly. Any advise? Thanks ## It isn't that they shouldn't be taken together, but they can cause some problems, so your doctor must carefully consider the dosage and should be monitoring you regularly. Now, this information is only relevant to the medicine in general. When it comes to specific criteria, such as that related to a flight physical, it may be a prohibited combination, due to the problems that can be caused by using them together. The first is due the risk...

Can Concor 5 mg be split? Is it safe to do so? I've heard that with some medication it's not good to split them. ## Hello, Spiro! How are you? Yes, this medication can be split, if your doctor approves, it is not time released. The FDA lists the typical side effects as possibly including nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination and hypotension. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Hi Verwon, thanks for your reply! The other question I had was in connection with Tareg (Diovan). Any withdrawal effects if it was stopped. I realize ones BP would rise again, just asking as to the rest.

Im on co-diovan 160 and bilocor 5mg twice a day + trepelene 25mg. My docter prescribed demetrin 10mg twice a day. I want to know if it is safe to use all these medications together. ## I haven't found any interaction information on Demetrin (Prazepam), but as far as the others go, there are potentially unsafe interactions found between all of your medications. Quoted below are the precautions you should be aware of: The following applies to: Trepiline (amitriptyline) and Co-diovan (valsartan + hydrochlorothiazide)… "Hydrochlorothiazide and amitriptyline may have additive effects in lowering your blood pressure. You may experience headache, dizziness, lightheadedness, fainting, and/or changes in pulse or heart rate. These side effects are most likely to be seen ...

Dear reader, My cardiologist gave me Diovan 60. That has been around now for some time. These pills are packaged in 14 pills per strip. Now this pill changed to Valstartan/Hydrochlorothiazide 125/75 mg, and these pills are packaged in strips of 10 pills. Do you know where I can still get these 14 day strips? I have a prescription from my cardiologist available. Thanks for your reply. Henno R., Netherlands {edited for privacy}

Diovan only 2 months after expiration date. Is it safe to take? Next appointment with doctor is for next month. Please let me know, I will appreciate it. ## Hello, Gloria! How are you? This medication doesn't get dangerous, once it's expired, but it does start to lose effectiveness and may not work as well as it did, when it was new. It would be best to just obtain a new supply, unless your doctor okays you taking the expired one. However, this isn't a medication that requires a doctor's appointment, so if you call, they should be able to phone or fax a prescription for you to your pharmacy to get you through, until your appointment. The FDA classifies this medication as being an ARB that is most commonly used to treat high blood pressure and certain cardiac conditions. ...

I have been taking Benicar 20mg for high blood pressure and it was working in combination with two other meds. My drug plan had my doctor change it to Diovan 160mg. Does the Diovan need to be such a large dose compared to the Benicar? Both are angiotensin II receptor meds so do they work the same way? ## Hi Forrest, Even though both of these medications are angiotensin II receptor antagonists and both work by blocking the binding of angiotensin II to the AT1 receptor in many tissues, they still have completely different chemical structures by which the drugs themselves are synthetically constructed. It's really just this factor along with any other inactive ingredients (binders and fillers) that are put in each tablet, which can determine how each drug is metabolized by your body. I...

How are you? I'm sorry about the problems that you're having. Metoprolol is a beta blocker that is listed by the FDA as most commonly being used to treat high blood pressure and certain cardiac conditions. Typical side effects may include nausea, dizziness, headache, increased urination and hypotension. Yes, there is a risk of that, but not a very high one.
