I was on 180 mg of ms contin after tapering down from 300mg for 16 yrs. I wanted to try fentanyl patches so my Dr gave me 75 mcg patch. Wow I had absolutely no pain .....but after 55-60 hrs I would wake up sweats flip popping all over totally withdrawals then I talked to a friend, she's on 50 mcg. I'm back to ms contin 120 mg ready to taper to 90 mg but it doesn't help the pain. So the pharmacist said since I also felt anxiety, depression the two weeks I tried the patch he said that maybe it was too high of a dose. Anyway my friend said she's on 50 mcg which is what I would go on and she had same thing for about 3 weeks. My ins will pay for 15 patches for 30 days so why can't I just change them every 2 1/2 days so that doesn't happen or will my percocet 10's ...

I can't seem to find a straight answer. I'm stopping the 12 mcg fentanyl patch (with Drs instructions). I have 7.5mg Percocet for withdrawal for a few days but everyone is leaving me believe my withdrawal won't be too bad. I called the pharmacist. She said withdrawal will last 48 hours. That seems too good to be true. So, anyone know?! ## It really depends on the person and how long they've been on it, so you may not experience any withdrawal symptoms, or you may experience them for a few weeks, there's no way to be certain. I believe the pharmacist may have been referring to how long it takes to exit your body, which is approximately 48 hours after last use. The FDA warns that possible withdrawal effects could include nausea, vomiting, chills, rebound pain and diarr...

Doctor just took me off 120 mg OxyContin daily and switched me to Fentanyl 75 mcg. What can I expect as far as differences in the effects? Are these two separate doses equal in strength? ## Yes, Fentanyl is the strongest opiate narcotic that is available. The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and constipation. However, the only way to discover how well it will work for you is by trying it. Have you started using it, yet? ## Does that work onyourpain fentanyl75 and your oxy80cause i have cancr pain

Doctor took me off percocet 10's and put me on 12mcg fentanyl patches. Will this help? I was taking six percocet a day. ## The only way to discover whether or not this medication will help you is by trying it, but Fentanyl is stronger than Oxycodone. The FDA warns that it carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and constipation. Have you start the patches, yet? ## I was on 100mcg every 48 hrs of fentanyl for 15 years n it worked great. Then they cut me off cold turkey n I had to buy the patches for 1/2 of how many mcgs they were. I saw a pain management Dr to have him put me back on the patches again. He told me the state of Illinois wouldn't allow him to prescribe the patches so he gave me 180 Percocet ...

My husband is on a 12 mcg ratio-fentanyl patch every 3 days for pain management..I've noticed there is writing on the patch when I put it on him, & when I take it off, the writing is gone..I assume that's the way it's supposed to work.. The patches in the last box still had ALL the writing on them when I removed them, & he hasn't been feeling well for over a week or so..I opened a new box & it's doing the same thing- - writing still there..I plan to contact the company, but it's a holliday here, drugstore, doctor, all unavailable..Any ideas ?? Is the writing a clue that the patch is, or isn't working ?? ## I have never heard of a patch that used such a thing to show that it was working. It may help if I could check it out more closely, what countr...

how long does the nausea and vomiting last? ## There is no way to say with certainty, much of it depends on the person. Without more information, such as the dosage and how long you were on it, I can't even really provide you with a rough estimate. Can you post back with more details? Thanks! This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. ## I started out on the 12.5 mcg. moving up to the 75 mcg over a eight month period. made me awful sick, weight loss, vomiting, abdominal pain ect.. went back down to the 50 mcg then 25 mcg. took that patch off 30 days ago. still having slight withdrawls. but, the nausea ( all the time) and vomiting ( 2-3 times a week) are very ...

Hi, I started using a 12 mcg fentanyl patch about a month and a half ago for chronic pain. I never abused them and I always changed them every 72 hours like I was prescribed to. Well I decided that it was time to get off the patch and tried one day to take it off and a few hours later I started to experience "the flu times ten" I was told by my doctor that my body had formed a dependency to the drug and if I was ready to get off then he wants to wean me off. Well he prescribed me to dilaudid 4mg and he said as soon as I take the patch off to take half off my first dilaudid. The first day I take a half every 6 hours.. the next 2 days I take a half every 8 hours.. then the next 2 days after that its a half every 12 hours.. then the next 2 days after that its a half daily. I'm ...

I am currently using 125 MCG fentanyl patches - 1 100mcg and 1 25mcg for chronic pain due to fibromyalgia and Addisons Disease. My orthopedic surgeon just informed me today that I have a large bone spur and a torn rotator cuff on my right shoulder. I have an appointment on Tuesday to see my pain mgmt specialist and I can discuss this with him but often he has mislead me with instructions on how to take my meds and vitamin supplements, one time landing me in the hospital in full blown Addisonian Crisis. My question is, if I need to have surgery soon, what am I going to do about wearing my patch? I know I cannot wear it during surgery and I heard that I have to ween off before surgery. I don't know what's the best to do. Any advise or personal experience will be greatly appreciate...

i have post surgical lower back pain. was in 50 mcg patch and had side effects and so decided to wean off. i finished with the 12 mcg patch a week ago and am still suffering from periodic nausea, irritability, daily joint and muscle pain, but the worst is the consistent restless legs. it is driving me crazy. my doctor says that is not withdrawal. is he right? i don't think so. if it is withdrawal, what can i do about it and how long will it last? i am going crazy. ## Of course it can be from the withdrawal, your doctor might be surprised if he talked to some former addicts and learned the various things they suffered, when withdrawing from their drug of choice and you don't have to be abusing a medication for such things to happen. My wife has really bad nausea. I would like to know if it is from the Dilaudid or Fentanyl or both. She is on 125 mcg/h Fentanyl per 72 hours and 4-8mg Dilaudid per day. LR ## I have a three year battle with severe abdominal pain which all started due to internal bleeding from a ruptured cyst. I have been on all sorts of pain medications. Currently I am on Fentanyl 100mg patchs and Dilaudid 4 mg. They used to work great but now it seems like only the IV dilaudid will give me any relief. I constantly have to go to the ER for pain management and I hate going due to the fact that I live in a small town which and the some doctors think that all I want is pain medication.there is such a big stigma about being on pain meds.has there been anything eles that anyone could recomend I am really de...

Im on morphine 20ml daily and fentonyl patches 100mg every 3 days I ran out of my pain relief last week n used subutex today. My script is due tomorrow is it safe to take without being in agony??? ## My advice - I currently have a very low tolerance and applied a 100 mcg patch 10 hrs ago. I stopped a 180 mg daily oxy habit of 3 years 2/14. Since 2/14 until now my opiate usage would be 5 30 mg oxy's monthly typically - I've used maybe 25 mcg orally 3 times in the past 5 months and 60 mg morphine plugged a couple times. I have also used subutex a few times I no longer experience opiate w/d and a dose of 30 mg oxy leaves me extremely buzzed for a good 12 hrs. That being said, I rec'd a 100 mcg patch today to help me with extreme back pain for the next 4 days. I was nervous to w...

I've been on 150mcg Fentanyl patches Q48 for over 8 yrs. 7 months ago we reduced it to 125 mcg Q48 i only had the chills for a few days. 6 weeks ago we lowered again to 100 mcg. and I am having trouble sleeping, i cant turn my mind off and i cant stop talking? And for the first time I am really feeling the pain in my neck & shoulders. My work comp. insurance wants me off them asap. What can I take for the chronic pain? I hate pills. ## Those can be normal withdrawal effects, you may also experience nausea, diarrhea and dizziness. There isn't anything else available that's as strong as Fentanyl. How do I stop uncontrollable movements after being switched off Fentanyl patch 50mcg / hr? The Dr said to wait a couple of hours before taking Oxycontin 30 mg. I am 72 and have been on a Fentanyl patch 50 mcg/hr for 9 months for severe back pain. The Dr thought it was no longer working and put me on Oxycontin 30 mg every 12 hours. I started to get very restless and not able to control movements. Not sleeping well, sneezing, bowel movements. No concentration, heavy headed. Please I need help. I can not stand this. ## Hi Barbara! You should let your doctor know the way you're feeling. You could be going through withdrawals. ## @Barbara, You mentioned in your post that the doctor "thought" it was no longer working... Are you in direct communication with him letting him know whe...

for 3 years my dr. was prescribing me three 60mg morphine sulphate er and four 30mg ms ir daily. when it became impossible to get MS in Florida, he switched me to Fentanyl patch 12MCG/HR every 3 days and 7.5mg-200 hydrocordone , 1 every 8 hours. the pain was unbearable and I felt terrible. cold sweats, shakes, could'nt think straight. when I asked him to increase dosage, he increased the patch to 25 MCG, but said there was more MS in the 7.5-200 hydrocodone than the 30mg tabs of ms. do you agree? Also, how does the patch equate to the Three 60MG MS er I was taking daily? Prior to this Dr.,after I moved 200 miles away,, my orthopedic surgeon was prescribing me Oxycontin, or oxycodone. When I called him 3 years ago and told him The new pain management Dr. switched to MS, he said its l...

I've been on a 25mcg and 12mcg Fentanyl patch now for about 6 mos. I change them every 48 hours. I get 15 of each per month. Lately I've not been getting the pain relief I did in the beginning. I would like to titrate up to the 50mcg patch. I think that would make a big difference, but I don't want my pain dr. to think I'm abusing it. Is is too soon to move to a higher dose? I mean is there a general time period for titrating up? Any help will be greatly appreciated thanks. ## I was started on the 25mcg change every 72hrs., my doc. took me up to the 50 mcg every 72 hrs in 2 months, said the 25 was just a starter. I am on the 75mcg every 72 hrs plus hydro's for break thru pain now. I will be going up again soon, my pain doc. says your body adjusts to it after time. I ...

I started seeing a pm Dr after having major surgery on my shoulder 7 weeks ago. My surgeon listens to some gal in his office and had cut me from dilaudid down to hydrocodone leaving me in a lot of pain especially during 3x week therapy. The pm Dr put me on fentanyl patch 12 with nothing else. I had been taking 4-6 hydrocone 7.5 a day but now only have the patch. I have been feeling wds and the patch is not doing anything for pain and I cannot see pm for a month. I think I made a big mistake. How much hydro is the equivalent to the 12 mcg patch every 72 hrs ? ## Hello, Trish! How are you? Fentanyl is the strongest opiate that's available, so the patch is equivalent to just a small fraction of the Hydrocodone. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the p...

I have severe back pain from 2 herniated discs, sciatica, disc degeneration and arthritis. I have been taking hydrocodone for years. Started off with 10/750 but now with the changes, down to 10/350. I also take methocarbamol. I've started going to pain management and the doctor has prescribed fentanyl patches 12.5 mcg, along with the hydrocodone for breakthrough pain. So far I've been on the patches for 15 days. After the first few days, I did get some relief but now I'm back to the same pain I was having before. Since this is just the beginning of my prescription with the patches, do they usually increase the dosage? The few days I felt better, it was so nice because it's been years since I've been free of pain. Thanks in advance for your help. ## Hello, Lana! How a...

I need to know whether I can take "aleve" and fentanyl together? ## Hello, Jane! How are you? I didn't find any problems, or interactions listed between these two medications, so that should be fine, as long as your doctor approves. The FDA classifies Fentanyl as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Aleve is a NSAID and its typical side effects may possibly include nausea, dizziness, headache, stomach irritation and increased risk of bleeding. Is there anything else I can help with? ## Can a Butrans (5 mcg/hr) Patch be combined with 2 Aleves (every 12 hours) or is a Butran Patch with 2 aspirins (325mg) more effective for severe back and shoulder pain. All of these factors can affect how much you should weigh. Some people do lose weight on Synthroid, once their thyroid issue in under control, according to FDA reports. My question concerns drug conversion. The Fentanyl works well, most of time, for my chronic pain, but my insurance now says I can only get it again in March of 2015. This is still Oct., 2014, so I will be out of patches at end of October. I don't understand this, because just stopping the patches would/will cause terrible withdrawal, because if you are only couple days late, withdrawal starts. This happened also recently as my dr. changed (at my request to try something else)100 mcg. patch to only 15 mg. of morphine ER every 12 hours, because of patches costing almost $400 for one month, which I cannot afford, due to "doughnut hole". The change made be very sick within two days, so I had to go back to patches. I didn't think the 15 mg. extended release morphine was enoug...
