My doctor has ordered this medication as I have cartalage deteration. My insurance says it is Indomethacin and is an over the counter vitamin. Please explain what it is. ## Where are you located? Without knowing this, I have no idea what the classifications are for the country you are in. For example, in the U.S. Diacerien is not even available, the U.S. FDA has not found it to be significantly effective at treating anything, because it showed effects only slightly higher than that of a placebo. And in the U.S. Indomethacin is a prescription only nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug, which is used to treat pain fever and swelling and it is not the same as Diacerein, at all.

Can a patient suffering from diabetes, high blood pressure, kidney malfunction (creatine 3.2, urea 105, potassium 4.7) with knee problems take diacerein (100gm) daily? if not, what is the alternative? Is it necessary to avoid taking diacerein when suffering from kidney malfunction? Kindly advise. ## Diacerein can be used by people with kidney problems that have decreased function, but your doctor does have to carefully consider the dosage. Normally they should only prescribe half the amount that they would for people that don't have kidney problems. Decreased kidney function causes the drug to reach higher plasma concentrations in the body and to be processed out much slower. Has your doctor prescribed this and is that same doctor aware of your kidney problem? ## What are the side e...

hi. my mother has been diagnose with osteoporosis.she was advised glucosamine initially...and now she has been advised diacerein capsules. It might be quite layman like to ask...but which is the better medicine of the two?? there is a third option of biofosa 35 as well. her age is 53 Yrs and she has no prior history of this ailment. ## Well, the Glucosamine is a supplement, not a medication. It is substance that is naturally found in our joints and there has actually been no proof that supplementing it will actually replace it in the joints and help. The Diacerein is an actual drug, it works by inhibiting interleukin-1. Bifosa contains Alendronate and this helps with bone metabolism, to prevent them from breaking down further. Now, of the two actual medications, they both do different th...

diacereina 25 mg is the drug I am researching .What type of drug is it? Is it over the counter? Is it a vitamine? ## This medication is unavailable in the U.S. and I am sorry to say that other countries do not regulate their prescription drugs as strictly as the FDA does. That said, finding information on them is very difficult, since there are no databases which list them all, like there are for U.S. prescription drugs. Based on my limited findings, Diacereina is also known as Diacerein; (a name which may help provide more search options for your research). Meloxicam also appears to be related to this medication; quite possibly the U.S. brand name for it, but I haven't found info to prove this.
