I have a 4 month old standard poodle that has a trace go blood in her urine. (confirmed by a human u/a strip borrowed from an adult clinic). I have a few macrobid 100 mg capsules left over from a previous UTI will it be safe to give to her until I can get to the vet on Wednesday? She is approx. 35 lbs. Will 100mg be too much for her little tummy and what are the risks involved if I do/ don't treat her now? Thanks for any advice, Mom of a poodle

If the animals teeth are bad, they could be suffering from pain and they may need dental treatment. Is there anything else I can help with?

can you give to pigs for antobiotics for wounds ## Hi Lisa, IP 272 is reportedly identified as Sulfamethoxazole + Trimethoprim DS (800mg/160mg). From what I could gather, this antibiotic is not FDA-approved for veterinary use. However I have read about several cases of veterinarians still prescribing Sulfamethoxazole + Trimethoprim DS for cats and dogs... Pigs on the other hand, I have no idea. But what I would recommend doing is disclosing all of your animal's medication history to the veterinarian in order to better determine whether Sulfamethoxazole + Trimethoprim is the most appropriate form of treatment. I hope this helps!

Is Keflex from a veterinarian okay for human consumption? ## Hi Lilianna, Keflex is a medication that contains the active ingredient Cefalexin; which is used to treat a number of infections including: otitis media, streptococcal pharyngitis, bone and joint infections, pneumonia, cellulitis, and urinary tract infections. I know that this medication is prescribed by doctors as well as veterinarians, however I don't recommend taking any medication that wasn't prescribed to you by your doctor. You can learn more about this drug on the page for Keflex Details I hope this helps!

How many milligrams of Xanax is safe for a hundred pound dog to take to make it comfortable to give an enema? ## How many milligrams is SAFE? Well considering that xanax alone is nearly impossible to overdose on; a 100lb dog could "safely" take upwards of 500mg of xanax and not be harmed. That would be a good nap for sure! However that would be way too much. You did ask what was "safe" though. lol. In all reality it probably won't actually take any more than 2 mg or less.

I read somewhere on the internet that you can use urbanol for dogs. If a dog has a neurological proplem and it's muscles keeps on contracting, can urbanol be used for the dog in 0,5mg doses once a day and will it help? Or is there something else that can help?

Val-Torb was given to my mini doxie for a chronic condition. He weighs 16 lbs and the dosage was 1.5mls 3 times a day but it made him horribly sick and shaky. As soon as I took him off he was OK. Has anyone out there had a problem with this medication? ## What this stands for is Valium, which is a Benzodiazepine that's used for its calming effect and Torbutrol (Butorphanol), which is used to relieve pain. I don't know what the dosage should be for canines, because veterinary medications are not my speciality, but it sounds like it may have been too much of the Torbutrol for him. Have you contacted your vet? A lower dose or different medication may be necessary. ## How long is Val/Torb good for? ## What long term side effects doa dog get when given Val torb long term ## I have yo...

cephalexin cap 500 mg #294/294. is this the same as cephalexin for people ## Hi, Jean! How are you? And yes, since it is a medication that's used in both, there's no need to manufacturer a separate supply for veterinary use, so the same ones used by your vet are what you may receive from your pharmacy. Learn more Cephalexin details here. With the high safety and quality standards required by the FDA, it is safe for some medications manufactured for people to be used in our pets. However, the obverse is not true, since those manufactured specifically for animals are not so strictly controlled. Is there anything else I can help with?

I found a pill bottle from the vet and it has 2 pills in it. They are round and white with D+ above the break and 30 below it. I'm just trying to figure out what it was prescribed for. I've looked it up a few different ways, but can't find anything. Thanks in advance for your help! ## It’s drontal which is for worms such as hookworm and tape worms. ## Hello Faaron, As Jen said I looked up the pill and it comes up as Drontal + which is a medication used to treat worms. I just wanted to add a bit of information that I picked up from my research. It also goes by the name Praziquantel. The dosages are determined by the weight of the animal and should always be administered with food, below is a list. 2-4 lbs - half of one tablet 5-7 lbs - one tablet 13-18 lbs - two tablets...

This is a steroid that is used to treat various medical conditions, such as inflammation, and allergic reactions. It may cause weight gain, and nausea as side effects in dogs. What are the side effects of this drugs in dogs? Is lose of appetite one of them? ## Hello, Based on my research, the Tussigon (Hydrocodone bitartrate + homatropine methylbromide) could possibly cause a dog to lose his/her appetite due to the fact that one of the common side effects is nausea/upset stomach. It is not uncommon for medications to cause these kinds of issues in humans and animals. If you have a dog that is experiencing a loss of appetite, I would contact a veterinarian as soon as possible. I hope this helps! ## My dog lost her appetite when taking Tussigon. She also had problems with her bowel movements which I attributed to her eating so infrequently. ## Unfortunately my little Angel died on February 7th. She would have been 15 on July 1st. I have Pota Vi Kin 400,000 U tablets. Can I give to my 40lb. cocker spaniel? He has a bacterial eye infection. If so, how much should I give him? How often and how many days? ## This is not an antibiotic, what you have listed is a potassium supplement that is used to treat, or prevent potassium deficiencies. The FDA lists its typical side effects as possibly including nausea, and stomach pain, due to the potency, so they should only be taken with food. What medication has your vet prescribed for your pup? It would be best to follow their instructions on what to give your dog. Have they confirmed your pup has a bacterial eye infection?

My dogs have had bad itchy red spots with hair loss. They have been going crazy. After all I tried I put some clobetasol on my dogs and everything has gone away after all. Is it safe for them if used properly. ## Hi Junebug, Glad to hear that your dogs are doing better. From what I've researched online, veterinarians do commonly prescribe clobetasol to dogs. So my opinion is that they should be fine. However I'd probably be a little reluctant to administer it myself until receiving specific dosing instructions directly from a vet, who can ideally make the most informed decision when it comes to various treatment options that are available (some perhaps safer than others in terms of possible side effects). It is manufactured by Qualitest Pharmaceuticals and could be one you'd receive from your pharmacy, if you went in to have a prescription filled. The FDA classifies thus education as a Benzodiazepine and it carries the risk of being habit forming and could cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache and irritability.
