My 10 year old daughter has frequent UTIs. Even after giving her antibiotics and after doing culture tests, now the doctor prescribed Septran suspension 5 ml daily for 1 year. Is there any side effect to my child for giving Septran for one year? ## Has your daughter been tested for vesico-ureteral reflux? A condition where urine from the bladder is pushed back thru the ureters into the kidney during urination. The bladder never completely empties due to a defect in the valve between bladder and ureter. The residual urine gives bacteria a chance to multiply causing chronic UTI's. I was told by a pediatric nephrologist when my daughter was diagnosed at age two that this is condition primarily affects girls and is one of the main causes if chronic UTI's in children. ## Yes,vesico-u...

I am an adult woman who suffers from a bout of impetigo. If you don't know what impetigo is please look it up. I don't get it all the time. I'll get it about once every three years. But it lingers for months. And it spreads quickly. It usually starts at the corner of my nose and makes it way clockwise to my chin then back at the other corner. It's a horrible, scaly, puss filled rash. If u scratch it too bad you spread it. It's normally found in children. Maybe I carry a strain. I don't know. Anyway, I've been prescribed so many antibiotics and antibiotic ointments. None seem to work well. It seems like me leaving it alone works better for me. But this summer I got the darn rash again. It's a bit embarrassing. The girls are always trying to clean my face f...

I'm nursing my 5 month old baby. I have a real bad sinus infection I'm even loosing my voice. My doc. prescribe me amox tr-k clv 875-125, and he said not to breastfeed for 10 days. My breastfeeding counselor said that its ok to do so. So as you see I am so confuse. ## Personally, I would follow the advice of the person who is the medical professional. If your doctor doesn't think you should breast fed while doing so, then you should not do so. Antibiotics can pass through breast milk and there has been some evidence to show that it can cause children to develop antibiotic resistant bacteria, since they did not have a reason to need the medication. Thus, it is just safer, for your child and your own piece of mind to not breast feed while on the medication. Do you have any oth...

Is it safe to take doxytet while breast feeding ## Doxttetracycline is an antibiotic and it can really depend on how long you are taking it. If you will be on it for a long term, then you may want to avoid breast feeding while taking it, because this class of antibiotics has been known to cause staining of the tooth buds of developing infants and children and this staining is permanent. If you are only on it for a short time, such as 10 days or so, then there shouldn't be any issues, because there hasn't been enough of it detected in the breast milk in such cases to cause harm. Learn more Doxytet details here. How long will you be on it? ## Hie. Having a problem with my womb,,gave birth in October and I'm breastfeeding. Is it safe to take bio-metronidazole 400 and doxytet. i want to know about moxifloxacin and its side effects during pregnancy ## Moxifloxacin, also called Avelox, is in a class of drugs known as the Quinolone antibiotics. Avelox Side Effects include such serious problems as damage to tendons, joints and muscles. These side effects can be so serious that they do not allow the use of them for children that are not fully grown yet due to the possibility of damage to the unformed bone and cartilage in children. These antibiotics also leach magnesium from the body, a serious problem for pregnant women that can lead to a condition known as toxemia of pregnancy that is quite dangerous. Because of these problems and the fact that there are less dangerous antibiotics for most infections, I would refrain from using Moxifloxacin in pregnancy and ask ...

My son is 5 months old weighting 5 Kg. He is suffering from a cough and cold and he was given Ofloxacin suspension (Brand Name: NEOF) and no improvement after 4 days also. Is it a better medicine for cough and cold? Please advise me on the issue. ## Ofloxacin is in a class of antibiotics known as Quinolone Antibiotics. These antibiotics have been banned in the United States for children for their potential to cause tendon, cartilage, joint and muscle problems and the FDA found that these problems were too risky to give this drug to growing children. It would be prudent to ask your doctor for an alternative antibiotic to any of the Quinolones, as it is simply too risky to give them to children. In addition, this is an antibiotic, and antibiotics are only useful for bacterial infections. ...

My 2 children who have Cystic Fibrosis were put on sulfameth-trimeth for 21 days at 18.5 ml twice daily, they both weigh around 30-33 lbs! Why would they be put on such a high dose for so long ? ## According to nih.gov, "People with cystic fibrosis may take antibiotics only when needed, or all the time. Doses are usually higher than normal." Ref: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmedhealth/PMH0001167/#adam_000107.disease.treatment Although this is just my theory, it could be that their doctor also felt that the severity of the condition alarmed him enough to increase the duration of that dose. But ultimately you'd have to ask the doctor who prescribed it for a more valid answer. for fever given in India ## Glevo 500mg usage and other issues ## Sorry, foreign medications are not regulated like US prescription drugs, so therefore it is very hard to find information on them. On top of that, sometimes drugs under the same name as something sold in the US can have a different active ingredient elsewhere, because the FDA can only regulate and make sure information is provided for drugs legally available in the US. ## Glevo is Levofloxacin tablets. Can you give a child Ciproxina O is they are allergic to pencillin? ## Hi Riley, Ciproxina contains the active ingredient Ciprofloxacin, which is in a class of antibiotics called fluoroquinolones. So if you're child is allergic to Penicillin (and other antibiotics in that group), he or she shouldn't experience the same complications with Ciproxina. Although I would recommend having your child checked for other drug allergies as well, just to be on the safe side. You can learn more about this drug on the page for Ciprofloxacin Details I hope this helps! ## Cipro and other drugs in that class of antibiotics are contraindicated in children, meaning that they should never be given to children for any reason except in the case of a life threatening illness where there is no other tre...

I went yesterday and the dentist determined an abscess and needing a root canal. The pain is unbearable. I am taking the 100mg of doxy but curious if I could take more to help kill the infection sooner? So far I am only 2 doses in but am prescribed to take 1 a day... I'm thinking I have a few more days of pain left before the doxy really kicks in.... The pain is literally putting me in tears and I have 3 small children to be caring for.... Don't have time for the pain! ## Hello, Ali! How are you doing? Has there been any change? The general rule for antibiotics is that, if they are working, you shouldn't see any worsening after the first 24 hours of dosing and you should start to see improvement after a full 3 days. If nothing has improved, then you may need to return to you...
