What Happens If You Get Your Norco Refilled Early
(Newest replies first)

Hi all! Was wondering what would happen in my situation. Today I went to Walgreen's with my sister to run an errand and while I was there, I wanted to ask which day my Norco script was due to be refilled (I wasn't sure if it was Friday or Saturday). I go to a PM doctor for degenerative disc & have been taking Norco since December. I asked the girl if she could check which day I was eligible for refill although this wasn't my normal Walgreen's but I figured since Walgreen's has a computer system, they can look up exactly when my script is ready. (I wasn't planning on filling it there because according to my PM contract I must fill at one pharmacy. I just wanted the date checked.) She asked me randomly if I was taking the medication as scheduled, not really paying attention I said yes. I also didn't want to get into detail about the fact that my doctor doesn't really have me on a specific schedule. He originally did, and then I told him that I was more comfortable taking the meds as needed ie some days I take 1, 2 or 0 and he didn't mind. I just didn't want to go into all of that. Then later, the pharmacist asked me if I had run out of the medication, I told her yes since I'm not really on a specific schedule. She told me that I could fill on Saturday & that I need to get the specific directions correct & then I left. I am going on a short vacation Thursday and returning Friday, so I decided just to drop my script off at my actual Walgreen's & told them I knew it was early, but I just wanted them to file it for me and I would pick it up on Saturday. About 30 minutes-an hour later, I got a text from Walgreen's saying my script was ready. I called Walgreen's knowing this had to be a mistake & the girl on the phone said that they tried to fill it (instead of file it like I had asked!) and it was rejected because it was too early. I guess the computer system rejected it. So I said, okay, no problem, see you on the 3rd (sat) when it's ready. I am worried that they will reject my script on Saturday when it is ready since I dropped it off early, will they view this as "drug-seeking behavior"? I just wanted to get one trip to the pharmacy out of my hair so that I would only have to make one trip total on Saturday when it is ready. I also read on the internet that someone was "flagged" by a Walgreen's pharmacist. I worry that I could have been flagged since I ran out of my medication early (according to the directions, not really according to the agreement I have with my doctor) I truly didn't think the directions mattered until now, as long as you and your doctor knew what you were doing. So worried, will they fill it Sat like they say or deny me and turn me away and am I just being paranoid? So sorry for the long-windedness of this message. It just worries me! Please someone help me out! I wouldn't pick up my script early (even if I run out) in order to be in accordance with the law. Anyone have similar experience? Anyone able to help?

Hi...not sure how it actually works but I had my Norco 10/325 refilled 3 days early today...albeit I have gone to the same pharmacy for over a year, never tried to refill early up until I did today...I'm not sure what the laws are but I think it had a lot to do with discretion of the Pharmacist, your relationship with your pharmacy (how long you have been going there etc) and insurance ...I'm pretty confident they would never refill a script of norco early for someone that has never filled anything with that pharmacy ...which makes sense in my opinion ..I geuss I should also mention that I go to a small privately owned pharmacy not the big conglomerate chains like CVS, Walgreens etc..I use to but it only took one time of them looking at me like a drug addict and questioning why I take norco on a regular basis...it was quite amusing though when they did question me and I told them the truth..I'm a disabled veteran with a TBI due to being blown up and shot while I was in Afghanistan so I suffer extremely debilitating migraines w/aura and chronic shoulder and back pain ..on top of PTSD ....the look on her face was priceless..and the fact is I could be giving them a script for OxyContin but I refused that medication from the doc because I don't wanna be on medication as it is so needless to say I'm far from a "drug addict" as she looked at me like I was...

Anyways keep your head up..life is good...:)

Amberley, how did that work out? Walgreen's pharmacists can be unpredictable, not all of them, but I've seen behavior change from day to day. I wouldn't leave a script for pain meds with any pharmacy for that amount of time, so I can relate to you being worried. I'm sure it went well, but if you still follow this thread I'd like to know just out of curiosity. What one says, another might behave just like you said and try to find a way to mess with you.

I have been on norco since spring 2013 & recently have started seeing a pain management doctor. He gave me a script for my norco. However, my primary had refilled my script on the 31st of October but instead of directions of every 4-6 hours, this time he wrote twice a day which I didn't even notice because, as I said I've been on them regularly. I am allergic to aspirin & nap role & ibuprofen doesn't work ~ I have disc degeneration in my lower back & a disc bulge that is collecting water in my neck so the pain can be intense. It's the 11th of November so technically with the way the instructions were written by my last doctor it's not "due for refill" until the 15th. Walgreens I know won't refill it until the 13th but I am out as of today because we have had some heavy cold fronts come through and whenever it gets colder I seem to hurt even more. I don't ever take more than 3 in a day and it doesn't get me "high" like I guess it does some people. It doesn't even take the pain away, just helps me manage it as I am a single parent with 3 kids. Does anyone know how I an go ahead and get my script from my new doctor filled? I don't want to get "flagged" as I heard some ppl state & i know my insurance will cover it as of today.

Hello, Amberley! How are you doing?

If that pharmacy was able to give it to you, then it must have been within the allowable time frame, otherwise, the computer would not have allowed it to be filled.

This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

Thus, you should have nothing to worry about.

Have you been contacted about this? Have any problems arisen?
