Suboxone And Pre Employment Drug Screen (Top voted first)

Updated

I am prescribed suboxone for an opiate addiction maintenance program. First, will it show up in a ten panel test? Second, can an employer discriminate if they have already offered me the job? Third, is this violating any privacy laws?

okay, people suboxone DOES NOT show up in a drug screen especially a urine drug screen been on it 5 years and not once has it ever shown up on a drug screen, you can tell them you are on it all you want, but it does not show up as an opiate! it does not! They have to do a special test to check for bup, So please people know what you are talking about before you post things having people all worked up on lack of knowledge. this is wrong if you dont know what you are talking about please do some research, for the guy whom was nervous over his urine screen , he had nothing to worry about it never shown up im positive of that fact

look you this forum should be about truth, first and for most iv been on this medication 5 years , it does not show up in any drug screens unless, ur prescribing suboxone doctor wants to check and they do! As far as job seeking and employment if you dont wanna say you are on this medication by all means dont . Because a lot of people and i mean most people look at you like you are a kunkie as soon as you say the word subutex, suboxone, methadone how ever does showup in drug screens 10 panel 5 panel whatever, but these 2 suboxone and subutex, I know for a fact that it does not! my ob called dss on me all because i had no trace of opiates in my systom, i was up front and i own my addiction. I am not the kind to lie and hide my disease, because its a disease addiction is a disease! so it should be treated as one , most look down upon us, anyways the doctor had to be educated even! he had to right his wrongs he thought like most think that its a form of methadone and thats NOT true, and does not show up in a drug screen, there are enough people saying the same exact thing, so be educated get educated, and own it. Once an addict always an addict, i own that , i will be the first to help or support someone who is in need and needs that hand to be brought back to their feet and id never post something if i did not know for a fact, thanks

thank you for replying, it has been a week since I did take the test.I told the people at (quest) the place where i got my screen, they replied by telling me that they used to ask whoever is taking the test to verify any prescripts that you are on. However this time they did not. When I volunteered to let them know they replied that they do not need to know up front. They did say that they appreciated the honesty, however i didnt need to advise them of that.
Anyway, I started my first day on the job yesterday. No issue ever came up about it. As far as I know it they didnt test for it. I know i have it in my system because ive been on it for months now. OH well, i do appreciate your response even though it didnt turn out like you said. however good luck to all the people who are fighting the struggle with addiction. Wheter you choose to take suboxone, subutex, or methadone, or perhaps just doing a 12 step. whatever you do please stick to it and ghange your life. god bless

I am prescribed suboxone and have taken numerous drug screens for my employment and none have ever tested for suboxone.

Trust me you don't have anything to worry about.

Thank you for posting that. I hate when people just talk, to talk, we are suppose to help people--not scare the hell out of them; especially over such serious matters.!

Why do people insist on saying subutex/suboxone tests positive for opiates. Its not a true opiate. Its synthetic. I test monthly for opiates for my sub clinic and never once have I tested positive for opiates.

The exception is probation. probation instant s now have a slot for suboxin. this is a fact because I have been on for 3 month probation officer. then one day he texted me and asked me how long I have been taking suboxone like he had me on something. luckily I have my prescription with me and he was very pissed off. but there was nothing he could do how about it. so yes they do have instant test for them. But not for employment.

I was drugtested every week for nine months and suboxen never came up in my system. One time my dr's office mixed my urine up with someone else and said I had opiates in my system. They retested me on the spot and my test came up negative for opiates. I was on suboxen (1 tablet a day) during my whole pregnancy. Social services at the hospital even tested me and my son when he was born, and we came up clean as a whistle. They never found out and luckily my son was perfect and had no withdraw or complications from the drug. God looked out for me. I was on eight 30mg percocets a day when I found out I was pregnant. I immediately stopped and started buying suboxens on the street the whole pregnancy. the only thing is that it took extra strong dosage of meds in the epidural and in my c-section because of the opiate blocker and I felt alot of my c-section so they eventually knocked me out cold, but they never dtected why and that I was on subs.

Wrong. Suboxone does not come up on. A standard test. Now my job, due to a issue 2yrs ago, state they test for suboxone. Im on it. And xanax bars. Im tested bimonthly, just to make sure im taking prescribed meds and no opiates. I also have my cdl a, and during my dot physical, i was fine. On subs. If i was on methadone ida tested positive for opiates. But after test for job, they scanned my subs and xanax prescription bottles, my job got negative results

I used to be on methadone. I went for a very good job, finished all the tests and 3 hour physical and came time to see the DR.(the company did their own testing on site and had a drs office there) So I tell the DR. that I have methadone in my system and I stopped taking it 3 days before, but I have a prescription(which I gave him) and told him, I want to move on with my life and I was prescribed the methadone bc I eventually got addicted to painkillers and wanted to quit and my dr told me to go to meth clinic. So he says, "o this changes everything". He told me to have my dr. fax him a slip saying i was ok to work full duty and wasnt going to be prescribed that anymore. while hes telling me this, he is copying my prescription. I leave there and go straight to the drs. and have him fax everything over immediately bc i was SUPPOSED to start the job on Monday(physical was Friday). Their DR. told me they would call me once I faxed everything to confirm employment. So im waiting for a week, then like a month, emailling the company and calling...nothing. Then I get a paper in the mail saying they recinded the job offer bc I failed the pre employment physical! I was so pissed, I just wanted to be honest and it ended up screwing me. So now its like 6 years later and now im on suboxone. LOL I have to go for a hair, blood, urine test for a similar but better job. The testing is done by another company that is not associated with the job. Should I tell them I am on suboxone? Or just wait and see if it shows up and then produce the prescription. I really dont want to speak up early and then they call the company and say that I admitted I was on suboxone and I not get the job AGAIN! So its a similar situation with different circumstances. I have been with my current employer for 11 years and not once did any1 ever suspect that I was on any kind of maintenance program. Methadone or Subs. Im not like other people that I have seen when they were on methadone(falling asleep etc.) I am told I am the best worker in our department and even got employee of the year last year while on subs. So for any1 that says they dont want addicts working for them, give some1 a chance who has gotten addicted to something in the past. Its not like every1 is a freakin junky. Some people actually work for a living and do a good job at it. Anyways..what should I do about my situation. Thanks so much need to know ASAP. Im not positive but i think its just probably a 5 or 10 panel urine, a blood, and a hair follicle test. im kind of worried about the blood test. I cant find anything on it about subs! thanks

Methadone shows up on panel tests. I was denied a job 1.5 years ago due to it. Even up front with a written, signed document from the doc that I was stable. No matter they s*** canned me before I even started.
Bupe on the other hand is variable per test. If you're taking a non court ordered 5,10,12 panel don't sweat it. Don't listen to any of these buffoons that said you'll pop hot for opiates, they prob did because they had s*** in their systems.... youll be cool.

Just a 2014 update...I've been on subs for about 3 years, and they do not show up on any of the urine tests I've taken... This is Nov 2014. Not under opiates or OxyContin. Disclosing it is shaky...it's a treatment under doctors supervision and should be under HIPPA laws protecting your privacy. Just my personal experience.

I've been on Suboxone strips for 3 yes now and passed a drug test for a job at a prison. So, proof that it doesn't show up on regular drug screens. Good Luck to all who are struggling with addiction!!

Verwon, this is NOT entirely true. I have taken ten panel tests for employment and was never given a suboxone screen. And PLEASE stop telling everyone they will test positive for opiates, that is FALSE.

Also, some employers CAN ask you to either stop taking suboxone or find employment elsewhere.

Suboxone has side effects, and people in certain positions can not be under the influence of ANYTHING for safety reasons.

If he was applying to a position that required DOT physical screening, yes they will test for bupe and if found you will be given the alternative above.
As well with any other position that will put yours, coworkers and public safety at risk. Making the company liable!

Please stop providing false information to people. ..

You SHOULD be okay! Like you said, I wouldn't say ANYTHING about it unless you test positive for it, which most employers don't but some do and more are starting. If you do get tested for it you don't need to divulge your entire medical history to get a job. Unless its CDL or likewise. Other then producing your prescription bottle to verify it's legal the rest is your business. If you feel the need to give an explanation tell them it's prescribed for pain, it's a common treatment to opiate naive patients to avoid addiction.

Let us know what happens!

I agree with Ash, I wouldn,t tell them. It may not come up positive for subs anyways.
If it did just show them your prescription.
I would not mention methadone or any past medical treatment having to do with addiction.
Keep it short and sweet.

Its a very reputable car company in SC. It's a production associate job. I know one warning on the bottle says use caution while operating heavy machinery. Thing is though, I took their assessment test and their hands on simulator test and was one of the top in the class. Just worried about them not taking me because of the suboxone.
