I've been prescribed fentanyl 50mg pain patches and i was just wondering if it's okay to cut one in half an chew on it?

No thare not all consistently applyed to patch thare can be hot spots 50mcg/h has 5.5mg of fentanyl or = to 550mg morphine or 275mg ocicodone

Whether u change or name or not it's all cool but u never change the tune...I have a buddy who is Iroquois and he is the best most loyal person i kno..I know it can be tough andecision seem lIke it..but I don't think it's a race thing it's just the way the doctors deal with people on meds..they have to be super strict now and almost seem unfair due to all the abuse that goes on bye Everyone..not just white kids like u said in an earlier post..if the doctor was Chinese would u still think he was racist? Or was it cause the doc was white? I'm just wondering cause of how bent u've been in the past..the problem is we all including myself get held to this rediculous standard now we have to keep because orf the abusers race doesn't matter...over the last year I have been possible tested more times than I was in 5 yrs total before now..it's crazy and I in 8 yrs of being on meds for chronic pain had never had pill counts done and I've had 2 this year..I've had to bend over backwards while doing nothing wrong it's just something has changed where they don't have the same leniency of the past and you have to be on the ball and not screw up to keep ur meds now. And that isn't everywhere but here its that way and I know they r harder to get now as well for people who need them..the system got so relaxed and taken advantage of and now they r coming down on us trying to fix it..but it's just the way it is..do the right things and you'll be OK but it's not a race thing it's an abuse bye addicts thing that created these stiffer policys..not easy..and I know too..but best of luck anyways because again I don't know whole story and the Barbaric Racism thing just stands out there..n it's hard to hear over n over I guess. But I'm not in ur shoes so I will not pass judgement just an opinion..

What did you go for and what were you looking for...u left out the details on what was going on with ya? U were focused on 2 white boys leaving with obvious problems and didn't say what was up with you...? Just wondering what is up here? Did u run out of med and want more and they wouldn't give them to you? Or? Cause they don't give them to you..unless u needed to be checked in to the hospital for what was going on and that's what u wanted then that was wrong but I'm just not understanding I guess..just wondering if u could give more detail..I got as much detail on the 2 white boys as I did on you..there is a lot of story being left out and barbaric racism seems pretty harsh with no real details I just don't get it?

Friday The 7th of Aug - 2015 I went to The ER at William Newton Hospital A Dr. Randee E. Lipman - Was working this ER at the time - I got checked in and then taken back to have - blood pressure usual things - I explained - I was on pain medications - for my injuries - Bad Neck and Back - I had taken both MRI's at - William Newton along with exrays - which this doctor could of just pulled up - and knew - I had this problem along with - could of pulled up the meds - I had and was on - But this doctor chose to be a Barbaric-Racist - I was sent back too the ER waiting room - them saying - rooms were full - I watch whites leave from the back - 2 white boys - one in a wheel chair - other limping - still I was not put into a room - 46 minutes after seeing the nurse - The doctor had the nurse - bring out the Hospitals drug policy - In the middle of the ER waiting room - giving it too my wife - I looked it over and - NOTHING HAD I DONE - VIOLATED any part of this policy - - - So I blew it off and waited longer - I asked a person at check in too see whats taking so long - and I could hear the doctor - telling Her - she was NOT GOING TO DO ANYTHING FOR ME - - -

I had seen the message about you losing your sister and I am so sorry for your lose. I lost my mother 2012 may I found her with 4 pain patches on her and her not breathing. My mother always struggled with opiate pain pill addiction and was a R.N and such a wonderful person. I tried CPR on her after calling 911 ,then after being at hospital she also had congestive heart failure ,along with liver failure from years of opiate use. I miss her very much. Now I am being put on 50mg fent patch for cronic pancreatitis I was born with a deformed pancreas and have struggle over the years with this. So now I am being put on patch and I am scared to death and I know it's the only the thing that helps my pain.

I am telling u know what you are doing here. I went from 275 milligrams of fentanyl with four 4 milligrams of dilaudid for breakthrough pain. I am now on 175 and dilaudid. I have a high tolerance. I usually take the patch off b4 the due date and save 4 days when I have really bad pain ..guess what I feel the fentanyl, so if I was you after the 3 kids that Od on my and their own patch trying to chew or misuse it I wouldn't advise it at all! Grow up, you are going to die and bringing someone back from this is HARD and most times impossible. Also narcane has no effect for the most part... it's like useless.

NO!!!! It's definitely not ok to "Chew" on a fentanyl patch ! I can't believe that's even a serious question. There's a reason it's made to be a 72 hr slow release pain med; and it's very, very potent. You'd be taking a risk of overdosing & not breathing any longer. So other than stopping your breathing permanently , it's fine .....

I grew up with alcoholic mother. I'm very aware of addictive behavior. I also worked as an RN for 38 years in 4 states. Not in
rehab but on cardiac & infloat pool. I'm aware of manipulative behavior. Quite frankly, I don't care if someone wants to kill themselves by using drugs inappropriately. There were many patients who abused their bodies. I'm not out to change the world but if only two or three people change their behavior because of what's written on here, that's accomplished something. Isn't chewing Fentanyl an expensive high? I'm sick of jumping thru hoops because of others stupidity, that's all.

Ya if you chewed on that half of one youd be getting 2.5mg all at once thats equal to 250mg of morphine or 125 of oxicodone if you chew the whole patch then = to 500mg of morphine

There have been people working in medical settings fishing fentanyl patches out of the trash. Some have died. That's why they put them in sharps container. Why would someone chew a plastic patch. Don't they make fentanyl lollipops? It's this kind of thing that makes it harder for those of us with chronic pain. More & more regulations, etc. because of people not using medications appropriately.

I have been on a fentynal patch for over a year. They are no good. Help very little with the pain and if you run out early you have terrible withdrawals to look forward to.

If you think an addict is going to change his "ways" because legitimate people are in pain, and can't get medicine, you have no clue how strong an addiction is. If you were hanging with an addict, and you had one pill left, and were in excruciating pain; that addict would take it from you in a heart beat. They don't care about you, and your trouble getting med's legally. They care about themselves, and feeding their addiction.

Come on wake up to reality. People are going to chew them so give real advice or don't waste people's time. With your argument we shouldn't give condoms to kids and teach them how to have safe intercourse cause they shouldn't be doing it anyway. Also we shouldn't have clean needle programs, people shouldn't be inj'ing drugs. If you aren't part of the solution you are the problem. Ignoring reality and pretending people are only going to take the fentanyl patch as prescribed is not helping anyone.

You should never chew Fentonyl patches, but everyone I know who has been on it has at least once. Getting a dosage that worked took a couple of years, trying to stay on 50's but 75's working better from the very start. I have been on pain management straight for the last fifteen years, but off and on most of my life. I am at 150 every two days, unfortunately (perhaps I have always had a very high tolerance for opiods and an extremely high metabolism. I did a lot of research in making it work longer and more effectively in my body. I have found that Visteril, (hygroxyzine) helps extend thee needed effects. Good luck, and don't let people put you down for using pain control n it's a medical issue, not a lack of moral fortitude

Justsomeguy...it's true but things will never change u will always have the Good vs. Bad out there..the addicts and the patients..but it's just horrible how hard it is now to get meds and what you have to go threw to keep them..I've had scripts for almost 10 yrs and now in last 2 yrs I've had more u/a's and random pill counts and crazy stuff to put up with then I did in the first 8 yrs..it has gotten bad ur right. Hope they figure it out tho cause the people that obviously r in pain have real issues..not made up problems to get scripts n then addicted then off to illicit drugs or whatever else..it's weird how people can get pain meds in some places for almost no reason and others have to go thru hell when they go thru it on a daily basis. I don't get it myself. Just made me think of it and sorry to blow off steam but I do get y people get addicted and all that it's something that happens but if you do the right things it's hard to fall into the same punishments as people who do the wrong. It just gets so irritating. But it's never gonna change and by the looks of it on my news every single night with drug epidemic this n that it seems to just be getting worse. Well at least we can come here and let off a little steam lol..and everyone has issues but some have them on purpose and others have them because of reasons they couldn't control and if u chose to be an addict and just throw Fent patches in your mouth to feel high you need help! i am on 75mcg fenyanyl people that abuse is the reason why it is so hard to get help for people like myself that realy need it .hopefully your doc. will recognize your signs of abuse and cut you off (save your life)
