Is It Okay To Chew A Fentanyl 50mg Pain Patch? (Page 29)
UpdatedI've been prescribed fentanyl 50mg pain patches and i was just wondering if it's okay to cut one in half an chew on it?
My friend just died yesterday at 11.30 yesterday chewing one his first time he tried one found out around 330 he was dead 46yrs old....a very good man.
To chew Fentanyl or inject the squeezing of a patch will increase tolerance if not kill yourself thus the more and more Fentanyl one will need and eventually an overdose will occur and if one lives neurologist (brain) damage can occur and as stated death is a definite possibility. Also the abuse ruins the use for people who use Legit. as Doctors may be reluctant to prescribe for people who are in severe pain and use properly so it just not oneself your hurting abusers ruin it for so many. If one wishes a high go to a back ally not a Pharmacy after lying to a Doctor.
I am a 55 year old grandpa that this summer was taking care of my gbabies and my 100 mcg fent patch on a 98 degree day caused me to overdose. So if this happened just because I had a 3 day and a new one on, which was stupid, chewing a 50 can cause your respiratory system to stop. By the time the ems got to me my % of oxygen in my system was below 55%. So listen, if you cant take your meds the way they are perscribed dont take them at all. All people like you do is cause people who really need pain meds to not be able to get them.
My mother is on the 50 mcg patch for cancer pain. I'm not sure how anyone could die from handling the patch. I handle them all the time and never had any effects from it. The dosage and makeup of the patch is for it to be released/absorbed by the skin over 72 hours, but for my mom, pain relief begins to significantly taper off after 48 hours. Hospice wanted to try her on morphine but it didn't work (just like I told them it wouldn't) and it makes her delirious. I put one patch on her back, heated it to take effect quicker and if it doesn't kick in soon, I will cut the last patch up in 8 smaller pieces and let her chew one. Nothing worse than seeing someone you love in severe pain & not being able to stop it. All of the people who abuse this drug should be beaten until they really need it. It is such a time consuming ordeal to get the patches for her because of all the regulations on dosage, how many she can be prescribed, having to pick up a hard copy prescription, going to different pharmacies when most don't have it in stock, etc etc all because of the damn addicts and junkies.
Have them to up her to 100 mcg. And the flow rate is as follows 47% the first 24 hours 42% the next 24 hours and just 11% for the last 24 hours that is why my Dr. Has me on 48 hour interval. Have your moms dr to check the flow rate and they will see that 48 hour is much better. The touching of the patch is for children because it is 10X stronger than morphine so that is where the touching the patch comes from. Good luch with your mom.
NO NO NO DO NOT CHEW FENTANYL PATCHES AS YOU HAVE THEN NO IDEA OF HOW MUCH YOU ARE USING AND ITS QUICKEST WAY TO BECOME AN ADDICT UNLESS YOU ARE ONE ALREADY.
I agree 100% ,I've been on fentanyl patch for about 5 yrs. I was on 100 mg about 2 yrs ago but was getting ready to have major surgery & my dr was afraid that they would be able to control my pain afterwards. So we decided to send me down to 25mg before surgy...I have been on the 25 for almost 3yrs. Now, but I have been prescribed it for 48hrs. Instead of 72 he's. Because they just don't stick to me!!! I have tried everything from band aids to surgery tape & still nothing! So I cut them in half ,then cut them into 8-10 stripes for each day & chew them ..I don't feel like I'm abusing them because I'm not cutting them in half & chewing the whole piece ! I'm chewing I strip @ a time for about 15 mins. To 1,hr. I would love some feed back
They such regulations because people cut them up and chew them so your about to become part of the problem. Ask for topical demerol, its a cream that works quickly and will last for 24 hrs. It helped my grandma during hospice. My prayers for your family.
Yes I understand being in pain is so hard but cutting and chewing is not a good answer to the problem it's kinda part of the problem. I think if anything u should talk to your doctor about getting a better control on your pain? And try to keep up a good dialect with your doctor..if your in pain then u need to try and do your best to give yourself a decent amount of pain management . I'd just say that u hate to have to do extra but the pain is worse than anything else and wold love to have in ck. And he hopefully will understand if not at least u tried. I just think if u need more u need more we build a tolerance and sometimes we need a bit more..or even get something to manage break thru pain...so u have the long term management with patches and maybe a few oxys for breakthru...u know ur doctor and where u might stand better as far as asking for whatever? But I think if u need to chew than u should try to get back on a path where u can do it the right way with a touch more relief...just a thought..best of luck to you and I know that I have had to increase over time...it just happens and hope this is understood it depends.. but best wishes to u!!
No one has EVER died from touching a patch, period unless they have so many allergies and specific to pain medication. Why do you post things that is just not true? I have been on the patch for 6.5 years. At one point about a year after my accident I was on 2 - 100 mcg patches at a time plus break through meds. YOU CANNOT DIE FROM TOUCHING A PATCH. Now if you are not tolerant to pain meds and put two 100 mcg patches eventually you would drift into a coma ... I stress eventually. Then yes you would probably die unless you received medical attention. Post facts not fiction!
I can handle a ton of med after building a tolerance I'm on 125mcg of Fent and 240mgs of oxy a day at this point and I can tolerate anything with ease because that just keeps the pain down...but idk if u can die or not I heard someone say it and it could be true with all the people out there maybe it's possible we don't know...all in all tho its just best to tell people to be safe and handle with care as a just IN CASE! That's all...just keep these people with no experience or just hunting for highs as safe as u can...I just believe we should not say u never would this or ever would have that happen... cause we don't know..let's just play it safe for the people that don't get it u know..just caution is best I'd like to think...but I get ya..
Um, google child death fentanyl patch. Yeah, there have been deaths.
I'm so sorry for the loss of your friend, my son one day after his 30 the birthday died from using a 75 mg. patch prescribed for me.
Yes that's the thing we need to error on the side of caution and not say things like it never happens or ur fine do it... cause u don't know for sure...let's just be careful people..things all have different effects on us...I have a super high tolerance but I know some who can't stand a minimal amount...it's risky to just throw a statement in the wind like it never happens because we don't know that..ty and best to all of us in pain and living day by day. But let's be smart. And not just assume cause u know what assuming makes.........yeh. Thx guys....
Always be cautious first..Don't just assume something because u never know..things are different for everyone and bad things can happen to some and not others..so being carefull and not assuming with a noway it would never do that to anyone attitude is a better way to go at it. Just incase.
Fentanyl is NOT given IV in Milligrams. The amount of fluid mixed with it may be measured in milligrams, but the fentanyl itself is MICROgrams. It is never ok to chew on a pain patch. Purely flirting with the devil.
I chewed a 25 and I feel great and am still alive and I don't take pain pills every day
If you are ready to die this is the easy way. Chewing on fentanyl patches can put you to sleep and slow down your respiratory systems so far that your heart stops. So how is that for a good time. Dont do it pleaee! The quick high is not worth it.
I CAN NOT BELIEVE THIS QUESTION!!! I AM SORRY BUT YOU ARE THE REASON THEY ARE CRACKING DOWN ON PAIN MEDS. SO MANY PEOPLE WHO NEED THEM CAN'T GET THEM AND *****S THAT GET THEM DON'T NEED THEM!! I AM SO MAD WHEN PEOPLE ABUSE DRUGS LIKE THIS JUST TO FEEL THAT QUICK HIGH!!!!! THERE ARE SO MANY PEOPLE WHO ARE IN SEVERE PAIN WHO NEED PAIN TREATMENT AND FOR REASONS LIKE YOURS THEY CAN'T GET THEM!!! I HOPE YOUR DOCTOR FINDS OUT YOUR TRYING TO CHEW YOUR PATCHES... THIS QUESTION REALLY ANGERS ME... OR YOUR STUPIDITY DOES.... I PRAY THAT ALL THE PEOPLE WHO ARE REALLY IN PAIN CAN GET THERE MEDS.. BUT WITH PEOPLE LIKE THAT ONE I AM REALLY SCARED THINGS ARE GOING TO GET ALOT HARDER FOR PEOPLE TO GET PAIN MEDS AND/OR TREATMENT WHO ARE REALLY IN PAIN..
I have been wondering about this cannbis stuff for pain. Does it help with nasea too? My pain gets so bad I can't eat or sleep and I stay so sick to my stomach that I can't hold down even a saltine cracker. I know my state it's illegal but maybe one day.. I just know pain is a very sad thing to suffer with.. I am glad this is working for you... GOD BLESS You.
