(Newest replies first)

I take Oxymorphone and it helps. I just wanted to check to see which one is better, Oxymorphone 10mg er or Dilaudid 8mg? Thanks a lot! :-)

Less potential for addiction. They are all addicting but Dilaudid IR gives u a fast rush with a sense of euphoria, the ER does not. It’s distributed slowly and safer (they say) in the long run. Not as strong but safer and no crash like Dilaudid.

I am being switched from 4mg of Dilaudid (generic) to 7.5mg of Oxymorphone ER. How effective will this new drug be? I have chronic pain.

Thanks Paincontrolksk,

Like I said in another reply I am just asking because for now the oxymorphone 10mg er is good for me. I just wanted to know how dilaudid is compared to what I take now. I was in the hospital back in 2004 or 05 and this guy in the next bed was taking dilaudid for pain and clearly he had a problem, when he got it and took it, literally 5 or 10 minutes later he was out like a light, and every 2 or 3 hours he paged a nurse to give him his dilaudid and soon they were telling him he was taking too much and he got mad and told me he was going to sign himself out and buy it through other means and the nurse came in and he said that to her. I told him man they won't give you anything if you keep that crap up. He said I don't care I have money I can buy it. I just said ok man whatever. The doctor on call told the nurses to give it to him but only to shut him up. The next day the doctor told him you are taking too much pain medication. I felt sorry for the guy but he was going at it the wrong way. I often wonder if he is still living. One thing I love about oxymorphone is it doesn't make you sleepy or anything, it doesn't give me any withdrawal if I run out for 2 or 3 days till I get it filled again but I very very seldom do that. I am just saying there is no withdrawal as far as I go. :-) but I take my meds till the day I get it filled now. Before when I was taking 2 hydrocodone 10\650 then 10\325 after they cut the 650 down to 325 every 6 hours and then I was taking oxycontin 30mg every 4 hours and I would be taking to my wife and she'd tell me you went out for a second then I was alright. And when I run out of them early wow the withdrawal was murder. I said that to say this it s a world of difference taking all that then taking oxymorphone 10mg er which is a lot better then all the pain meds I was taking. That is strange how taking all that didn't help me as good as taking oxymorphone 10mg er. Sorry this was so long. :-)

Thanks Verwon,
I guess i am just looking a head when the Oxymorphone 10mg ER is no longer helping me.
But i am staying with that for now.
Thanks for your reply.

Timilan,

Dilaudid in most clinicians estimation provides a greater degree of analgesia. For purposes of diversion control most opt. to rx oxymorphone which is also an excellent pain reliever. It's sad when considerations for prescribing are based on anything but clinical evidence but it's the reality of pain management post CDC guidlines enactment.

There is no definitive way to say, it depends on you and which one works best to relieve your pain.

The FDA warns that this medication carries the risk of being habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, headache, dry mouth, and constipation.

If the Oxymorphone works well for you, then it might be best to stick with it.

Is there anything else I can help with?
