Ativan Lower Blood Pressure

does ativan / lorazepam lower blood pressure at 1 mg tab? I am starting new bp meds that haven't kicked in yet. I was weaning off ativan but felt pressure was a bit high so I took a whole 1 mg for the first time in a week. I was down to 1 1/2 for the whole day. The ER gave me 2 mg to lower my blood pressure and it worked but I don't want to take 2. Will 1 reduce it some?

Wow, that is a very unusual reaction.

In response to the original question, yes it can help to lower blood pressure. As a matter of fact, it is sometimes used for those who are resistant to traditional blood pressure medications, or used in people who tend to get elevated blood pressure due to stress and anxiety. And that's for all Benzodiazepines, not just the ones mentioned here.

However, it usually doesn't lower it so fast that it puts someone in danger.

How low did it go, dilho?

And in respect to this discussion, I'd like to include a link to general Benzodiazepine details here, since it covers all those mentioned, as well as others.

i had hypertension and was taking clonidine hcl 0.8 mg perday.i recently added divya mukta vati to attempt to wean myself off the clonidine, because of the constipation, low energy and sleepiness.today i experienced racing heartbeat ,and it frightened me. at this time my bp was 145/114,and fell to 130/78 when the racing stopped.i took some selenium for my heart, but i don't think it had had timeto work yet.i think the racing normalised naturally. what should i know about this?,,and will mukta vati eventually work for very high blood pressure?,,,thank you very much

You weren't prescribed 10mg of lorezepam as a single dose... You would be so lethargic, that the only thing you could manage to do is sleep. While it's true that 10mg may be administered over the course of 24 hours, it is highly unlikely that any respected physician would prescribe this medication at such high doses for hypertension. There are so many hypertension medications available, and 90 percent of them would work so much better than ativan.

I was admitted to ER, BP 195/122, extreme anxiety, couldn't stop pacing or stop my motor mouth (fear). Dr administered IV of Ativan. In 2 hrs it lowered my BP to 138/80. My follow up Dr gave presc. of 1mg Lorazepam every 8hrs. However, I only take 1mg at bedtime and cut the pills in half to take 1/2mg in am and 1/2mg in afternoon. It DOES lower my BP. I don't feel sleepy or drowsy, am able to function with no anxiety. I feel calm and peaceful, and actually like a normal, functioning, happy human being. I don't understand it, but it works for me, and I don't feel drugged.

That's exactly what happened to me. My blood pressure medicine wasn't working 180 / 107 even after taking more. Ended up in the ER and Ativan was given to me which brought it down to normal. I've weened of BP medicine and take .5 mg of ativan twice a day, blood pressure normal, feel normal. Rob
