No, the active ingredient in Oxycontin is a time released formulation of Oxycodone and Opana contains the active ingredient Oxymorphone.
Learn more Oxycontin details here.
Learn more Opana details here.
However, if you're referring to the new formulations that are intended to help prevent abuse, then yes, they are very similarly done.
Is there anything else I can help with?
yes the new oxy that has an op is not crusable and any way they did the same thing to oxy way back to stop people from crushing them a 20 mg oxy op isn't really all that. i take 4 40 mg opanas a day. but i"m in california and thing are getting strict at the pharmacies so you can imagine how high it is on the streets
if someone could actuctually fiend a true oxy 80mg the green ones that you have to take off the coating in order to snort it, on yhe streets it would go for 70 or 80 bucks when everybody was getting the real oxys you could find them for about 40 maybe 45 bucks a pill. the oxys that have the op noone likes so they are going towards the opana's that are light yellow and its shaped like a stop sign are the crushable kind starting to get hard to even find these. i take dilaudid 2mg every 3 hours and they seem to do better and you can snort them too. i use those for break through pain.i wouldnt pay 3 bucks for an oxy op there still roxycontin floating around your better off with them than spending your money on the new op opana
OPANA is actually OXIMORPHON not oxycontin just as DILAUDID is HYRROMORPHON
Opana comes in immediate release as well as timed release.
@Kimbo. It's not the "Pharmacies" that are getting stricter. It's the docs who prescribe these meds, and each state (tho not all) have a 'pain management database' that shows the history of medications given to an individual. In MY state, Virginia, docs are very leery about giving out meds such as Oxycodone or higher. VA is so strict, and docs have been screwed by addicts' "drug seeking behavior", most all in my area no longer do pain management. Luckily I will be seeing a PMDR early in August. I need surgery for frozen shoulder, and because my tolerance is so high, my orthopedic surgeon will not operate until I see the PMDR and a regimen of medications planned out in advance and post-operatively.
@Kimbo again... If my research is correct 80 mgs of Oxycontin (am assuming you're talking about this) is no longer being produced. This is due to the junkies who abuse the drug, which ultimately affects all of us in intractable pain. Dr's. are leery to give out anything higher than Vicodin as some I've spoken to have been "burned" by addicts and no longer prescribe pain meds. One doc told me he didn't spend 11 years in schooling to become an Internist, and that it was not worth the risk to prescribe.
Kimbo----Yes I am Taking Oxycontin 80 mg and yes they r still producing the medication. It is made by a company called Purdue, yes it is the chicken people.I have had RSD or Complex Regional Pain Syndrome for over 7 years now and am confined to a wheelchair. I am in pain 24/7,and it is intense pain.I also take Opana Q4hrs and if needed immediate acting oxycodone 30 mgs as needed in between the Oxycontin.I am not proud of it but it is necessary.Hope you understand...
Kimbo,
If you are snorting any of these medications then you are one of the drug addict abusers. The dilaudid u are taking comes in 2 mg 4 mg as well as 8 mgs.I hold a Medical license and if the Oxycontin 80 mgs is not working on you that is because you r not giving it a proper chance. Please do not snort them or anything. But if they r not working for you you can takr oxycodone 15 or 30 mgs whick is the active ingredient in Oxycontin anyways,I promise you this. But most of us take it because we need to reduce severe pain...Think about it.....
