Tramadol - Unable To Acheive Orgasm (Page 4)

Updated

Anyone else experiencing this side effect? Not a normal topic of discussion for me with anyone but my doctor. I found this drug to be very helpful with easing pain, no sedating effect, BUT after taking this medication discovered I was unable to acheive orgasm. It took me a while to figure out it was the Tramadol causing the problem.

Tramadol/ I have totally lost interest in sex since taking Tramadol ( & Lyrica ) blood tests show my testosterone is low, so i was sent to see a endo-ist but i now have to wait three months before i go back for bloods, the thing with this medication is that it works on pain, but has side effects, it can send you high then low, does anybody else keep fidgeting with their hair ?? or get sores in their hair, or even in my case have their hair falling out ?? i am not to suprised that it can make you high because there are five E,s in the shell, the ones i take are produced in Germany.
Warm Regards, Stephen.

I have been using tramadol for 6 months. It relieves the pain. It hinders me from causing multible erections in the same day.

I'm glad this is a student - should learn the facts instead of giving bad advice. Tramadol absolutely decreases sex drive and causes erectile dysfunction and/or difficulty or inability achieving orgasm. Tramadol both increases serotonin levels and inhibits the reuptake of norepinephrine. Both of these decrease sexual drive and/or function. In fact, tramadol does more to cause sexual dysfunction than much stronger narcotic drugs such as hydrocodone and oxycodone.

Thank you everybody I just starting taking this stuff today very first time. I just wanted to look up info on it just because I'm happy I did because my drive is none. So if this is going to make it worse then I will take it when im really in pain.

After reading 65 posts, I to am convinced that tramadol decreases libido as well as the ability to climax. I've been on tramadol for 3 or 4 years. My T was checked and was found to be 215, which is low. My Dr. prescribed 200 mg testestorone cipronate injections every 2 weeks. For erections is use "trimix". Its still difficult to climax and the sensation during is weak. I'm 77 years old so until reading these posts I thought my problem was age. I have been taking 3-50 mg tramadols per day. If I skip the one at supper, sex that night is much better. After reading these posts, I'm going to wean of tramadol, not sex. After 51 years of marriage sex is still an important part of our relationship.

I have been taking tramadol for about 9 months due to car accident injury. I am now trying to discontinue use & it has been a very tough time. I think maybe I should have tried to d/c it first before the hydrocodone meds!
I have not had the anorgasmia you describe with tramadol, but I will say this- I read the info on here about the mechanism of action of tramadol, and it works kind of like opiates & it also works like certain antidepressants, as it works with the brain's neurotransmitters norepinephrine & serotonin.
I have taken Lexapro 10 mg about three years ago for anxiety when I started nursing school. In the initial month for the antidepressant to begin working, I did experience anorgasmia (inability to achieve orgasm). I can only put my educated assumption on the table as an offering of a possible reason that it is messing around with those NTs, serotonin & norepinephrine, and that is the trouble.
I hope this helps you to understand the why & how. As for the solution, I don't know anything other than the slow weaning off or perhaps a lower dosage. I was taking twelve 50 mg tablets a day (2 every 4 hours) at first in June 2011. Now I am down to one when I wake up & one at bedtime. I'm working on none at anytime!
God bless you & be with you!

Yes definitely effects libido, specifically inability to orgasm - noticed for the first time in my life. I only took one 50mg tab on three successive nights - subsequent to a painful shoulder op. Like E Tramadol releases serototin & I assume it is this that is having the inhibiting effect on ejaculation. I think I should have been warned about this side-effect & in fact I am amazed that I wasn't. Other posters experience is reassuring

This is how it also started for me, i thought it was great i could last for ages & sex was great! Gradualy it became harder & harder to reach orgasm & then eventually i wouldnt cum at all no matter how long i tried. Then one night with a new girlfriend while in bed & i was busy on her down below i noticed i wouldnt get an errection, it just wouldnt respond! From then on i had problems & it took me ages to find out it was the Tramadol. I cut down to one a day & extra when needed but it can still cause problems, im now on my second day of trying to go without any at all, feeling withdrawal symptoms & feeling really lousy but need to see if get back to normal. Even if i do get back to normal i dont know what im going to do about pain releif. Normal sex life & lots of pain in ankle or less pain in ankle & screwy sex life... hmm :o/

I thought I was the only female with this problem. I went from years of vicodin, then norco, when my pain management dr wanted to put me on something less strong....so he said! Good god, tramadol is the worst ever and very tough to get off of. After a year and only 3-5 50mg a day, I have never had an orgasm unless I have a vib. I also had this problem with the other painkillers but not as bad. Tramadol also gave me headaches so bad that I thought I was having a seizure. As I write, I havent taken any Tram for 6 days, I slowly cut back for a couple of weeks prior lastly taking 1/8 at night to get a couple of hours sleep. I still do not have a sex drive and am struggling to sleep at night for more than 2 hrs at a time, also restless legs.....but I am mentally more clear than ever and have no more cravings. I pray for all of you on this horrible drug that drs either misunderstand or are getting a kick back for prescribing. I am out of the worst of it and taking it one day at a time. I am not that strong of a person and if I can do it and live with some pain you guys can beat it too, if you want. If this helps even one person, it will make my day!

OK I need to be honest here because it might help others, I am a 27 year old male and have used Tramadol in the past for an injury (back problems after sport) - I began abusing the drug because I enjoyed its effects, and when I decided not to abuse the drug (because I was going through a bad patch and decided to clean my life up) the withdrawal made me feel suicidal (which was the Tramadol because I had gone through this process once before), I am totally clean now and have been for a long time, but yes, Tramadol especially for me prolonged the onset of an orgasm. Whether it was sex or masturbation it seemed almost impossible to reach orgasm, infact one time it took me nearly 3 hours of masturbation to achieve climax (but when I finally got to the money shot I was in heaven haha, it was SOOOO intense, but not very comfortable) - This s*** is bad for you, it drops your sex drive, and it can f*** your life up - stay away from this drug, its s***.

Agree to some degree with Honestman above.... I am a 47 year old male who take this drug for joint pain & infrequent severe headaches. I am a highly sexual person anyway who can achieve climax in from 5 to 10 minutes or anywhere in between pretty much at will......except when under the influence of this drug, then it will take 20 minutes plus which my wife is not so fired up about since she generally climaxes much earlier and becomes sore in the 20 minute zone.....
I'm no doctor, but this drug has got to be a cure for premature ejaculators......

Thank goodness I've found and read all this. I thought I had a serious problem in loosing the sensitivity in my clitoris. I've been on Tramadol about 2 months and find it so hard to reach orgasm, even by myself it takes forever as there is very little feeling there. My partner and I are getting so frustrated. Now I know what it is I can think at least I will be 'normal' again soon!!!

I am Male 47 years old and have been taking Tramadol for 4 years now. I did notice I could not orgasm in the beginning but as time went by I was able to sometimes but always needed my wife to finish me cause I was too tired. I hate that effect so much. It;s great for pain.

I have noticed also that if I masturbate I can go pretty quick, Even on Tramadol. Having sex my penis gets erect but then I can just all of a sudden lose it. It's frustrating.
There has been a few times while masturbating that it went limp but I was still able to get off. Weird Stuff. I one had been subscribed some depression medicine and it did the same thing so I told the doctor and he switched and the new med made me go like a teenager. 1 minute maybe less.... I went back to the other.
