I need to know of any side effects that may occur while taking this medication.

I have been taking the generic of bactrim for five days yesterday.....stopped taking it per dr. Finally had to go in and he said it was probably a reaction to the meds. My eyes hurt and itch uncontrollably at times. A few hives but I get those occasionally so not sure if that's related. A rash on my back, but it's mild and don't really itch, headaches, neck stiffness and pain and severe chills and then usually a fever so I've been stead taking ibuprofen and Tylenol for that. But I just generally feel awful. How long will this last and is there anything I can do to speed up recovery? Thanks in advance.

I have taken numerous antibiotics before with no issues. This time, for a potential UTI, I was prescribed Bactrim, 800. I took 1 pill and within 6 hours had a horrific migraine and felt like I was sick to my stomach. 2 hours later I had fever and chills. I never took another pill. That night I woke up with horrible muscle pain in my lower legs and feet which has continued through today. My headache is not as horrific but continues and the fever and chills finally broke. Needless to say I will NEVER use this again.

My husband has been taking this nasty pill for 4 days and has developed a fever a severe headache and stiffness in his neck. He is miserable and hurts all over, No more of these pills for him!!!!!!!!

I thought I was the only one! I'm on day 4 of a 5 day regiment. I've been having fever, chills, shortness of breath, dizziness, inability to concentrate, depression and loss of appetite, oh not to mention the horrible nausea. I've had to leave work early everyday because of how sick I've been. I've taken other antibiotics in the past and have never had symptoms like this so I started to think that I was having other serious health problems. I'm so glad that I'm reading this!

I came upon this thread by searching for "Bactrim eyes burn skin itches paranoia sleep". Glad to see it's not something else, at least. Not that it's good to feel so messed up, but at least I know the cause and can talk to pharmacist. Janet (post 20), it is a VERY ignorant and selfish person who assumes that just because something doesn't affect them, it also doesn't affect the world. Bactrim may have fixed your infection, but it sure didn't fix your nasty, narcissistic attitude!

So, I was prescribed bactrim for a normal, moderate UTI. little did i know the medication would give me more grief than the infection! I was given 7 days of pills, and i only made it through four days. after the four days i felt like i was dying. i had a massive headache, was vomiting, had severe neck pain, i could barely move. its been a week since i stopped taking the medication, and i'm still feeling pretty terrible. i'm praying this will all end soon and i'll be back to normal.

I was just recently put on Bactrim for my mrsa on my foot which I got from a bug bite on the bottom of my foot from being outside barefoot. After the 7th day of this drug I started breaking out in a rash on my arms and chest. Then I took Benadryl and it did help me and make me feel better but once it wore off I broke out and was worse this time it was on my face and feet, actually I was covered from head to toe. I then went to the ER and found out it was the Bactrim talking to me. He then switched me over to clindamycin and 50 miligrams of Benadryl which made me sleep and made me feel better. Although I still have the rash not as bad, so fingers crossed only 5 more days left of taking this awful sulfa drug!

I just went thru the exact same thing. Just got off it today. Head hurts so bad when I cough feels like my head is going to exploded. Plus I had a respiratory infection same time. And was given a tetnus shot with the whooping cough vaccine at the same time as I had been bit by a dog. Had reaction to that too. I also had horrible stomach pain as I have a hernia and was constipated for 5 days even after taking 3 laxatives. Its sad when you ho to the doctor anymore and within 24hrs you are worse and think you are dying. Ugh thanks to everybody who posts on here. It helps people like me to know its not just me and helps you get answers.

I have a bladder infection and they gave me Bactrim. I am very sensitive to medication and just after 2 doses I became severely nauseous, dizzy, hives, and had a spell of depression. This is by far the worst drug I have ever taken. I thought I was losing my mind so reading everyone's posts made me feel better. I stopped taking this of course. Does anyone know how long it remains in your system?!

I experience the same symptoms after taking bactrium for a minor staph infection fever, chills, pounding headache, rash that was like a sunburn, so weak I could barely get out of bed for two days, vomiting and itchy all over. I told the doctor of these symptoms on the 5th day of taking and I went back for a post check to make sure my infection was healing and she put me back on the same antibiotic telling me if it was an allergic reaction I would know immediately this time around!!! wow I thought I was going to die!!

This is a horrible medicine I took my first dose and woke you in the middle of the night with my face itching like crazy but I just ignored it I took another just a ehile ago nd I have bumps all over my neck and im itching and im having cramps! I am not satified

Has anyone had tingling hands and arms from taking Bactrim? I took one pill and within 3 hours I had arms and hands tingling and over all rush of feeling really bad I stopped after the 1st dose and I am wondering a little over 24 hours and I am still tingling

Yes, I believe Bactrim causes the tingling you speak of. I have Diabetic Neuropathy (tingling and numbness in my feet and hands) and was prescribed Bactrim for a prostate infection. My neuropathy was actually improving to the point it was not bothersome. I tried to tell my doctor that I can't tolerate quinalones (CIPRO) or sulpha drugs (Bactrim), but he refused to change my prescription to Doxycycline which I have taken many times over the years with success. He told me if I did not take the Bactrim, he would put me on Cipro. In a few days, my Neuropathy was so severe I could barely walk. My feet and hands hurt and had stabbing pains, my skin burned, I itched everywhere, my joints hurt and I felt really terrible. I also could not sleep and my mental moods were up and down. I felt like my mind was all foggy. I took Bactrim for 15 days. I was suppose to take it for 21 days....but I could not handle it anymore so I quit. I stopped the Bactrim about 5 days ago and still feel bad with all the bad symptoms. I am hoping the after effects will get better. I will never take Bactrim again and I am looking for a new doctor! Bactrim is dangerous. There are other antibiotics that are effective besides Bactrim! Like some of you, I will contact the FDA.

I took bactrim for a nail infection ( bar rot) for a week. The day after I stopped taking it I got a bad metal taste in my mouth and my skin broke out in red spots (arms,legs, belly, not face) went to cvs pharmacy told me to take Benadryl. Knocked me out and rash did not go away. Took 2 more Benadryl and spots look better. Might go back to dr. tomorrow if not all gone. Nightmare. Never take bactrim again. Never had allergies in my life or reaction like this!!!!! Horrible drug if was free at publix, but I would rather pay for something safer. Not itchy just rash

Hi Sue,
Read through the posts and you will see there are some bad side effects. I recommend not taking Bactrim. Talk to your doctor about taking something else. Batrim is not worth the pain. Just my opinion.

I was taking this for 10 days....the first time i took one pill, everything started....I got a really bad headache, becane even more sensitive to light and sound, and i couldnt walk, due to shaking and numbness....Its been nearly two months now, and the only difference is that Im not shaking as much

Hi my name is Lynda, about a week ago I went to the hospital to have a procedure done. The doctor asked me was I allergic to any medications, I told I,m yes I was allergic to sulfa. The next day I went to pick up my prescription, the doctor gave me bactrim,I took it the next day, it said take one tablet twice a day. I took one tablet. I went about my day, on my way back home I started to feel my mouth starting to swell, I knew exactly what was going on because this has happened to me before. By the end of the day my mouth was swelled. The next day I had an appointment to see my doctor. When I went there I showed her the medicine the doctor gave, it was bactrim, she said did I tell the doctor that I was allergic to sulfa? Because bactrim has sulfa in it. I yes he ask me was I allergic to anything and I told him yes I was allergic to sulfa. She told me to stop taking the medicine, which I did. My question to you is can I sue the doctor, because I told him I was allergic to sulfa, and he gave me a medication with sulfa in it. My mouth is messed up because of it. It take a year for my mouth to heal the last time, now I don,t know how long it,s going to take now. Do you think it was negligence on the doctor,s side? I hope to get a reply back soon thank you.

I took bactrim ds for a bladder infection. I finished my last dose 3 days ago and still feel the symptoms. I have major muscle weakness. Been taking probiotics to get back the good bacteria. any experience something similar and how long before it's finished ?
