Refilling My Valid Xanax Prescription Early (Page 17)

Updated

I only see one doctor and he gives me a 3 month supply of xanax. When I went the last time he wrote me out a prescription but I still had two refills. I had a friend and her husband passed away and I gave her some of mine thinking I would have no problem re-filling the prescription. I had sense enough not to go to the same pharmacy and not to give my insurance information. So I go to this small drug store by my house and I had to fill out paperwork such as dob, name and my DL #. Well they paged me to the front of the store and advised me that it was 7 days to early for them to re-fill. So my question is where can I go to re-fill a prescription that is valid written by the same doctor. I only tried one place, I'm guessing they must have a data base if you try and refill your prescription early (even without your insurance) does anyone have advice on where I can go to get this filled?

It is true that prescriptions are good till a certain date.... But thanks to the pillbilly pushing mother truckers you can not get a script filled early! Example... I have searched for my pain medication for 5 days with all the pharmacies saying they are out (not a hypothetical ) So I am suffering like the devil when I finally find them. My doctor makes it a point of giving me the script a week early the following month so I don't end up like this again. Now I should be able to fill it early since I was 5 days late the month before.... But no... They tell me I can not fill it till the 29th day and here it is the 34th day and again no medication. I am well into my 70s and have no intention of continuing on this path. People complain on how animals are treated well they better start taking a look at people with chronic conditions... We are everywhere and we are suffering like a dog that has been hit by a car and left to their own! My good friend checked out a few months ago... I cry every time that I think about her because I did not believe her. I figured she had been living like that, the same as I for a few years now, I did not realize how close she was to doing the ultimate ... If I could have looked deeper into myself I would have seen it but it appears it took me just a little longer than her. I wish we had went together.. With the cause of our death, the DEA and pharmacists!...We have been unable to leave the state of Florida for a few years now... unable to see our children, grandchildren and great grandchildren ..those that we in all actuality are living for. We lost our husbands years ago and our lives have now revolved around getting our pain medications and making more appointments. No one should ever call this the golden years unless it is the gold coins we are putting out to stay out of pain and away from those we love! I thought she was seriously thinking of taking her own life.... I thought she was angry and over rationalizing the situation. But here I am and I now know her same thoughts! When there are no grandparents or great grandparents around any longer.... Know we were good but we were very dispensable when we got sick and needed pain medication... Not to thrive mind you, but to be able to care for ourselves ... to be able to have enough pain relief to be somewhat comfortable in our skin!!! We are gone but many will not forget about us or what they made us endure before we finally decided we HAD to leave this place When we would have rather stayed! The wrong medicine in an addicts hands will kill the same way that no medication will kill someone in desperate pain! PAIN KILLS.

Hello, Obama didn't have anything to do with that. I guess he is responsible for all the deaths from opiate overdose. I guess he is responsible for all the people who are addicted to prescription pain meds. People who pharmacy shop, doctor shop and those who will go so far as going to another State, has no accountability for their actions. People who gets angry if they don't find a doctor that will prescribe high doses of narcotics, has no accountability for their action's. When a doctor orders medications with refills. It's the assumption that the patient will take the medications exactly as it is prescribed. By adhering to that assumption there wouldn't be any reason to refill early. But if the patient is self medicating, then if course they will run out of the medications. Because of all the deaths by overdose. Changes needed to happen. The DEA, did the right thing. They had to developed and implement a system to track narcotic pain users. The new blame doesn't look pretty.

There is enough blame to go around! When you have a druggie hitting up doctors out of state.... Why the hell did we have so many doctors ready and willing to take their cash and even sell them the medication they wanted! Greed is everywhere including some of those who wear the white coat and emblem to do no harm! There are more than two groups now who struggle and we all know who they are! First it is the druggies who never thought their legal medication would dry up! Well they have and many have now moved on to illegal drugs, ones much more dangerous than what they were once using... but the real problem is that these are someone's sons and daughters, some with children of their own and they are dying! The next group are those that really need these medications because of serious accidents and illness. Pain takes them away from everyone and everything unless they have something to tame the pain! We also have good doctors who fear the DEA and are afraid to give these people a therapeutic dose of medication; enough so they can take a walk and try to enjoy their day to a limited capacity! We have these same people get their prescription but then they cannot get them filled... Tell me how much sense that makes! Why did we go to all the trouble to track opioid use from state to state and then refuse to fill someone's legal prescription? Now we have people who are in legitimate pain who can not get their prescriptions filled on time... They can go days sometimes without any medication at all and no one does anything about it! It is a fine mess that those are in that need these pain medications... they are ostracized all the while they are suffering!

I'm sorry I just don't get it ?what is so complicated about a doctor writing a prescription for a 30 day supply of the medication ?? you have enough medication for 30 days why would you need it filled in 28 or 29 days ??if you take it as prescribed you should never have a problem with getting it filled early what about some personal responsibility for taking the prescription as it was prescribed not as how you feel it should be rx'd......I just don't get it there's no accountability from the patient

@Tiredofthesameoldbs, I was wondering the same thing. Some people on this board are piss because they cannot get their script filled 3 to 5 days early. You are right, medications are prescribed concurrent with follow up appointments, so the patient should not run out of the medication before the appointment. Also, most pharmacy will not refill medications especially, opioids early. The insurance will not pay for the medication early. I think some people need to keep it real and be honest. Sorry of the background stories are absolutely ridiculous and far fetched.

The problem with not getting things filled on the 28th day is the extreme hassle it can cause on the very last day for instants on Father's Day I had to leave my 83-year-old father who I assist with the stroke because I was out of town and my physician had written me a 25 day supply because I was having a surgical procedure also up at my dads & he was like why didn't you drop it off the day before oh because they don't allow it you have to go in on the very day it's due why didn't you call early to see if they had it because you're not allowed to call dad why did you drive around 25 pharmacies in his local town... So yes there's a number of reasons it's nice to be able to fill two days before you're out but as I said I had a 25 day supply there was no problem obviously they check in the DEA database every time but it absolutely ruined what could be my last Father's Day with my father and had to leave town and worse spent six hours that day driving around in circles so things in Florida are locked down enough as far as the bad doctors are out of business and orange jail and the DEA database is up and running so there really shouldn't be such punitive things against regular normal compliant people ! Because situations do happen and a two day buffer for most things is really just enough to avoid an emergency situation like I faced with my father but that's just my opinion good luck with everything to everybody

You have to wait 7 days because it's all on computer now and don't give them out anymore.

Xanax is a class 3 narcotic and cannot be refilled any earlier than 28 days after last fill. Do not try again. Its illegal and if your Dr finds out you may lose your script.

Xanax is not a "Class 3 Narcotic" although under a State law you might find it classified a C2 in at least one State. In any event it is NOT a narcotic

Xanax most certainly is NOT a narcotic and depending on your insurance and pharmacist, you can get a narcotic such as Vicodin, which I take, you can have them filled up to 5 days before a month supply is up. As for a diazepam such as Xanax, it is a C2 without the restrictions of an opiod, yet your pharmacist has can use their own discretion. I generally pick up both my Xanax and Vicodin a few days early, no problem.

You're wrong. I'm a psychologist and Xanax IS a narcotic! No where in the US can you refill prior to 28 days. As for Vicodin it is off the market in most states. It is illegal to try and fill a prescription again without insurance in an attempt to fill early and you WILL be caught. Get your facts straight. Ps it's. A class 3.

Wrong. ALL controlled substances are consider narcotics. It is a benzodiazepine but also a narcotic. And it's a class 3. Do your research before answering questions.

Well, I know Mississippi is a pain in the butt when it comes to prescriptions. I took my temazepam to a Tennessee Walmart and got it filled, but my normal Walmart pharmacy here in Mississippi will not transfer the 5x refilles of temazepam to them. They could transfer my Prozac, but not the temazepam. That is really messed up. It's the same company.....I have transferred prescriptions from Mississippi to Tennessee a few times.....it just doesn't work the other way around I found out with a CIV. Frustrating for people who work in different states!!

Under Federal law Alprazolam is a controlled schedule IV medicine. If you are a Psychologist Nottoosmarttobefooled clearly you are not a medical doctor, nor have the ability to prescribe medication and seem to have a weak grasp on Federal & State controlled substances?

Vicodin is prescribed and sold countless times everyday in all 50 states. It is a Hydrocodone and Acetaminophen Combination. It is also referred to as Norco and Lortab.

Xanax and Valium are Schedule II in a few states, but not others.

Thank you BL and to MadKen the problem might be too many refills (In California my Doctor is only allowed to prescribe Soma & Xanax with 4 refills) and the pill count has to be under 500

Vicodin and norco aren't the same. Vicodin had 650mg Tylenol in it as norco only has 325 mg. They got rid of vocodin because of the toxic effects on the liver

Pretty sure they just reformulated the Vicodin, they didn't get rid of it. You should drop by a legal pharmacy every now and then to stay current on Street drugs!
