I would like to know of any side effects others may have experienced after receiving Prolia infusions. Up to now I have none.

After my 1st injection I felt tired and achy for about 3 days, then I was fine. However, after my 2nd time 6 weeks ago, I am getting worse everyday. Itching, bone pain, stomach issues, groin and thigh pain. I also fell for the 1st time in my life. Vertigo wakes me from sleep as well. The only relief , which isn't much, my dr prescribed steroids. I pray everyday tomorrow it'll stop.

It seems that they realized how much money could be made by marketing it for Osteo, even when no indication.
Profits over people is what I call it.

You couldn't be more right. I was on actonel for about 7 years with good results. My doctor then took me off. I, in the meantime saw a Gynocologist for another minor problem who after a few years and a bone density told me I was a prime candidate for Prolia. I'm small boned, the bone density report was not good and therefore Prolia, a miracle drug, new on the market was the answer. She scared the, you know what, out of me and as she was considered one of the top Dr.s in Toronto, after much consideration, I agreed. When I did have side effects after the 2nd and worse after the 3rd I was told it was all psychological brought on by stress. Even though I have been off it now for almost 2 years I am still suffering from the effects. So, yes, it's not something to take lightly. I'm sure if I even I had gone back on actonel I would not be dealing with what I am dealing with now. When is Amgen going to do something about this. I don't want my daughters or granddaughters to ever have to go through being a "guinea pig" like so many women are now. I sometimes feel so helpless in getting this message out to others before they are given the opportunity to really know what they could possibly end up dealing with. Koodo's to you, Poodle for your very informed info. It has been most helpful.

So rare that there are two separate class action law suits in the USA for that specific problem? Amgen used to state: go to the ER immediately if you have that problem. Apparently it's not that rare or the attorneys would not accept the cases. Generally speaking, when a class action suit against a drug company begins, the attorneys are certain they will win. Be well~

Prolia was not developed to be a 'go to' drug. It was developed as a 'last resort' drug. This seems to be a fact that our Medical community does not understand. One should only use Prolia when ALL the others have FAILED. It seems the medical community in the USA and Canada is reaching for Prolia first instead of last. People really have to do their homework before accepting it. My Dr. is still very apologetic for using it on me once and I have yet to fully recover from it. The others are various forms of bis's and one other that helps build back female hormones so the bones get built up naturally. It cannot be used if one has ever had a DVT or PE. These are the facts of the world right now. Hopefully, the future will change it. Be well~

Re: Lois (# 2571) Expand Referenced Message

This is NOT a chemo drug. Xgeva was developed to build bone in certain cancer patients when the treatment damaged the bone. I have written this various times on this site. Prolia is also the same thing in a lesser amount and less often to build bone mass in women with osteoporosis or osteopenia. This does not mean in the least it is a good or safe drug. It has horrendous side effects that can last long after the drug is stopped. Some women can tolerate it while others cannot. It really does not help bones that much because it deposits old bone on old bone so it is denser but still fractures easily. In France, Amgen, the manufacturer of Prolia, is conducting the study on whether or not France should accept it. Seems very flawed to me and also to women in France. I sincerely hope this clarifies the use of Xgeva and Prolia in women. I have also noticed that Amgen has created a website specifically for Prolia and this year has also changed their website considerably. Be well~

I came across this site about Prolia. 161 people have probably died from prolia. Maybe it's more. Watch out before you get this poison.

Re: Gloria (# 2570) Expand Referenced Message

So, which came first, treatment for cancer or osteoporosis ? In other words, was this drug developed for cancer and then they realized they could make a lot more money by marketing it for Osteo, or the other way around ?

Re: Gloria (# 2570) Expand Referenced Message

I didn’t know that it was a cancer drug either when I agreed to it. I knew some of the side effects but not all of them because more keep coming out. I too would never have agreed to it if I had known everything. I have had some effects but not as severe as others but I resent not being given all the information so I could make an informed decision. I know that BP (before prolia) I felt great and haven’t felt that way since. Now I will find a Dr, after my move, who listens to me and understands that I know my body better than anyone else.

Prolia, actual drug is denosumab, also marketed as Xgeva a treatment for Cancer patients is a form of chemotherapy. I did not know this when I took my first injection in 2012, if I had known this and all the horrible side effects of the Prolia I was given for Osteopinia, I would have never taken it. I tolerated 7 injections before I started researching and found out what horrible side effects it could have. I stopped in 2015,, but I am still suffering the many side effects from it. I do not think I will ever be the same. My body may never recover. I have been to a number of doctors and I am still fighting what this drug, PROLIA, has done to my overall health. Horrible drug. Beware before you agree to taking it. Amgen and the FDA should take it off the market, except for cancer patients. Hope this helps someone.

Hi, My 88y/o mom has been shrinking since her 60s, on alendronate for years, and now her dr is suggesting Prolia or,Reclast. She’s concerned about the pain issues, as she has plenty of aches and pains assoc with being 88! She is concerning about the side effects negatively affecting her for a number of months into the treatment.
What have you experienced and would you start this at 88?

I haven't used it because I use others, but isn't the one from Save Our Bones?
If so, I think it credible..

Re: Lois (# 2550) Expand Referenced Message

About 3 years since 1 shot of Prolia, I still have reoccurring attacks of hip pain. But shorter intervals. Also dreadful skin issues come and go. I quit eating flour, sugar...anything that might contribute to inflammation. I take a product called Bone Up, and Magnesium supplements. Had a tumor removed from parathyroid. Bone density has increased significantly my Dr says.

Has anyone used the exercise program called Densercise? I am going to only use exercise and eating what is good for bones. Thank you for the information because I haven't heard of these sites before but will certainly check them out.

Re: Lois (# 2562) Expand Referenced Message

Ps. When I was diagnosed with Osteo I saw a specialist who supported my not taking meds. Unfortunately I developed2 vertebral fractures and then I got scared so I agreed to take Prolia; I was afraid of becoming hunched over. Later I learned from a Physiatrist ( the one who developed Yoga for Osteoporosis) that the type of fracture I had wouldn't have resulted in a ( hunchback).

Re: Lois (# 2563) Expand Referenced Message

It's never too late. A more alkaline diet can be helpful. I was taking Collagen but I stopped due to concern that it would be too acidic; I am rethinking that. Exercise is important. There is a Yoga for Osteoporosis, also TTAPP. TTAPP has been my main exercise for years; I even gained an inch in height. The reason I developed Osteo was a long period of inactivity due to surgery. I still do Yoga, but I am still recovering balance; actually not recovering but gaining balance. I had a congenital leg length difference causing me severe myofascial pain syndrome. It was a long recuperation ( I wasn't so young ), then, just when I made progress, I took Prolia and I was back to severe musculoskeletal pain and weakness. Did I mention that I have had Fibromyalgia for 20 years? Long before it was recognized. All the pain I suffered from Prolia was nothing like my experience with these other painful, debilitating conditions.

There are to sites that I advise: Save Our Bones and Better Bones Blog.

ps In TTAPP there is a woman who started the program at the age of 73, she had severe Osteo at the time; now she is going strong at 90 with NO Osteo.

This is why I say it is never too late.

Good health to you.

Re: Mother McB (# 29) Expand Referenced Message

I know that this is very late but we can also change what we eat. I am going to make sure to eat very healthy and especially make sure to get enough of all the vitamins and minerals needed to have good bones. The only other option is to be careful when it gets Ivey out next winter.

sal (# 2549) --

Well, Sal. I have used the xylimelts for 3 nights now and, eureka, I think it's working! I did notice that, as the cautions say, it can be a mild laxative and it was, so I only used 1 last night and it seemed a bit better. I actually slept through most of the night without a drink of water!!!Now if only the sensitivity on the roof of my mouth would go away. I'm thinking that because I have to wear this darn "flipper" until I get an implant, it may be the culprit and is irritating my mouth. I had the bone graft Feb 1st but so far it's not ready for the implant. I see the oral surgeon again the end of August.

I must admit that finding this med-chat group has been a godsend. Finding others with the same side effects from prolia and how they have dealt with them is most encouraging and helpful. Especially knowing that others were told the same thing I was......that my problems were all in my mind and not caused by Prolia. Certainly phoning Amgen was futile when it came to asking for some answers or help. A waste of Amgens money hiring people to give such glib remarks!
