Tramadol is a pain medicine with a small amount of opiate in it.

Trazadone is a antidepressant often used for insomnia.

Period!!!

This is Trazodone 50mg made by Pliva/Sidmak Labs. It is an antidepressant with mild sedative properties, sometimes prescribed as a sleeping pill.

I have never heard so much mis-information from so many people who have NO idea what they are talking about. I have been on Methadone Maintenance for the past 10 yrs., it has NO relation to Trazadone which is also prescribed to me, but for sleep only. I take 300mgs Zooloft a day for depression, the Trazadone , in the 50 mg. tablet is the perfect dose for a solid 6-8 hrs sleep with a possibility of a headache upon wakening and a small feeling of being hung-over when first starting the regimen. After a few nights of usage the Trazadone is tolerated well. One reason I get Trazadone is because it has NO physical dependency issues at all, NONE!

Trazadone is actually a mild synthetic opioid, similiar to methadone, but lesser in potency. It is used to treat mild to moderate pain, as well as having other alternate uses. One should be careful when taking Trazadone, because you CAN become addicted to it, and withdraw from it. I used to work for a pain management doctor, and am well versed in medications. I urge anyone who does not believe me, to do some research on their own, and see what they find.

Hope this helps!

Trazadone is absolutely not an opiate what so ever. I am in a program to get OFF of opiates and was prescribed trazadone to help with sleep. It is an anti depressant which is probably more commonly prescribed as a sleep aid. People claiming its similar to methadone are just flat out morons and most likely they are thinking of tramadol which really isnt anything like methadone either so bottom line their just idiots.

I just wanted to comment on the amount of people saying trazadone as being a type of methadone, and it not being a antidepressant. Are they aware of there facts when posting? I know as a med tech that I was always taught this falls under the antidepressant meds and IS used also for sleep, fibro patients, etc. but being put in the list with methadone?, come on why then can one have this faxed, called in to pharmacy, and almost all meds once taken long enough will cause withdrawel if going off. Why I even got on here was my mom uses this and she wanted me to make sure what she found on the floor was one of hers. She is 80yrs old and only takes tramadol, and trazadone for her physical issues and would NO way be on a Methadone substitue.

It's not an anti-depressant, it's not an opiate.

In large doses it is prescribed as an anti-psychotic. However in low doses 50-100mg, it is the best sleep medicine I've ever found. You don't do things you don't remember, you go to sleep and stay asleep, and you don't wake up hung-over.

Also, it is not addicting at all. If it can work for a life-long insomniac like me, it is the best sleep medicine ever. And you can get a 3 month supply at Wal-Mart for $10.

I don't know anything about illegal or illicit substances but I have experienced tracking. It makes motion look as if there is some kind of invisible strobe light that is causing you to see echo-ish trails following things (eg: your hands) that are in motion. For instance if this 0 were moving in your field of vision, instead of just seeing the 0 move from left to right you would see something like this ((((((((((0 and if the 0 were moving right to left, you would see something like this 0))))))))))). Do you get the picture? I thought this effect was quite entertaining but thoroughly inconvenient. I was told by a nurse that this is a side effect similar to "tracking like acid" - "Antidepressant Discontinuation Syndrome" is just "Withdrawal" under another name that is more convenient for those that legally produce drugs for money. The name was invented in the early 90's and widely distributed at a famous-name pharmaceutical conference. In early reports it was referred to as a “withdrawal reaction.”

This is 50mgs Trazadone, a generic for Desyrel.

However, IT IS NOT A SLEEPING PILL. It is actually an antidepressant that has drowsiness as a side effect.

Trazadone was the first SSRI anti-depressant. It was prescribed in high doses 400 - 500 mg, but it simply succeeded in putting people to sleep, which it does quite well at lower doses. I take 100-150mg at night to sleep; have been doing so for six years; have had no problems when I have run out, and my understanding of this medication is that it is not addictive, but others on this forum with more experience with medication say it is. If you are going to take it, recommended dose is 50mg to start. Do not increase in more than 25mg - 50mg increments, or you will get some funny side effects. Typically it is quite free of side effects, although I have a couple of friends & relatives who say they've tried it for sleep and gotten no results at all. My shrink's on-call partner told me one time that if you increase the dosage too fast, you get tracking like you'd get with acid, which I thought was a pretty wild answer from a shrink who'd never even met me before that phone call. LOL!

Thank you....I am also on a program for opiate abuse and never heard anything like this. My doctor prescribes me 50mg a night as needed for sleep. One of the biggest reasons he chose this medication was because its non addictive. Do your research people or call a pharmacy. If your taking it to get high your going to have no such luck, besides sleep. You people are morons. Im glad someone on here could actually provide the right information.

WRONG! you're probably thinking of the other anti-psychotic that everyone gets prescribed these days for everything from depression to insomnia even though it was initially approved for use in psychosis, mania, and schizophrenia: Seroquel (quetiapine)

trazodone (brand name Desyrel) is and has always been an antidepressant. Most people found it too sedating at doses needed for anti-depressant efficacy, so nowadays it's used for sleep.

I was prescribed Trazodone to help with my sleeping disorder. It can also be used as an anti-depressant in higher doses (about 400 mg). The lower doses (25-100 mg) are used as a sleeping aid because of the mild sedative properties.

Trazadone, while being an antidepressant, is most often prescribed as a sleep aid. It is becoming more and more popular, and is believed to be relatively safe.

If you take a pliva 433 for fun you'll just nod off.
