Morphine Coating

I take 15mg of MS sulfate ER 1 two times a day I had to reduce to this dose as I had hives itching and was miserable on 30mg 1 two times a day. Now whenever I swallow the morphine it burns my throat and I end up with my throat feeling swollen and very hoarse. If I try not to take it Im in trouble also. Is the coating something I could be sensitive too?

Yes, you may be reacting to the coating. Are you making sure to take each tablet with a full 8 ounce glass of water, unless you're on fluid restriction?

I've sometimes experienced this with pills if my mouth was too dry, when I swallowed them.

The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation.

Try putting the pill in a little rolled up piece of bread. Swallow and it should get further along in your gut. That might help with a little extra precaution. Good luck . I have a swallowing problem myself. U might think about a pain patch. It a 3 day patch. Bye
