Lo Loestrin Fe And Continuous Bleeding (Page 3) (Top voted first)
UpdatedI started taking Lo Loestrin FE on Feb. 2nd and it is now Feb. 21st and I have been bleeding non-stop (literally all day, every day). Doctor says to wait it out for 3 months... 3 months of non-stop bleeding? I've heard of breakthrough bleeding but this crazy!
I had mine removed seven yrs ago and I have trouble with a lot of foods now anyway. Ugh. I decided to retry..if anything take a full month and try to right my schedule. Well, 11 days into a new pack and a regular period started yesterday. I am too old for this nonsense. 43. This pill is garbage. I used Demulen for 12 yrs without ONE issue. Had my kids. Periods have been lasting 10-12 days so gyno put me on this. No thank you. I'm done after this pack. Tuck and roll! At least I have my humor.
I just started taking Lo Loestrin, but I'm on Wednesday of week two. 11 days into my first pack and I'm having a full on period. I also get headaches and dizziness regularly. I'm not happy.
Just began my pill pack 8 days ago and have a moderate brown discharge like at the tail end of a period.. Very irritating... Been dealing with mood swings and depression since day 3. Was on this type several years ago without these major issues and currently ready to stop the pill, have my period and be off the pill.
I started taking Lo Loestrin Fe a little over a year ago. At first, it was terrible; I bled for 17 days straight and had terrible cramps. On my second pack I still bled for a good two weeks. However, on the third pack I only bled for two. Ever since then, each month has been getting better so that now I haven't had my period or cramps for over 6 months. Although the first two pill packs were absolutely horrible (heavy bleeding, cramps, irritability, major mood swings NONSTOP) I am so happy that I don't have to deal with any of those any more. One last note: the reason I found this page is because after not bleeding for so long I just noticed slight bleeding and I am only on week two. Hope it goes away quick!
I am soooo glad I found this post. I got off birth control and got put back on by my doctor. She told me to try Loestrin. I have been on my period for almost 4 weeks now and I am so heavy it’s scary. I’m bleeding through super plus Tampons and pads. I have a doctors appointment tomorrow. I’m asking to be taken OFF this pill!
I have been on Lo Loestrin for about two months. I can't even tell when/if am on my period because there is spotting throughout the cycle. I guess I'm a little disappoited because I was hoping this would control my irregular periods. But I must say...I have always been sensitive to BCP and this is the ONLY one that does not make me itchy and sick to my stomach. Like the saying goes...something's gotta give...
I have the same problem I have been bleeding non stop over two weeks. I decided to stop taking them
I started taking Lo Loestrin 3 months ago. I have had heavy bleeding for at least 2-3 weeks each month. Needless to say, I'll be heading to my Gyn this week because I'm over this! This is killing my sex life and zapping my energy. Hope this resolves for the rest of you!
Thanks for all the posts. Thought I was going crazy. Took BCP for 25 years, then stopped for a couple years but was always regular every 26 days. 3 months on the Lo loestrin fe and it's crazy... Missed periods spotting every 2 weeks... Insance. Calling dr to change rx
I had my son in June and my Dr gave me Lo Loestrin as birth control to try (he gives out free samples first) since I was on ortho when I had gotten pregnant. {Don't worry I had missed two in a row from being trapped and no way of getting home to grab my pack ..} I have been on Lo Loestrin for 2 weeks now and got my period again... and it's not light... I know my body is probably trying to get into the hang of things after having a baby, but I'm worried about if I should stop taking the pills and wait it out til my period is over and start another pack or keep going with this pack?Honestly it's scaring my finace' he thinks I am bleeding out too much. Before I went on it he went under the web looking for any problems/questions/concerns/and good things about this type of birth control for he worries. I was clinicly depressed at a kid, but now almost 30 the only thing I noticed being on this b.c. is mood swings. I get angry or depressed quickly and it disappears just as fast. I like it other than that. I do, however, will always like Yaz. It was my "happy pill." Anyways- any advice or comments on this problem? Have any of you been through this? Should I wait it out and start a new pack at the end of this period or just continue the pack I am on? Or just call my Dr and see what he thinks?
I was taking Loestrin 24fe, and they just switched me to Lo Losestrin. from what I've been reading up there I shouldn't even be on this pill. My first month of the 24fe my period never came, the second month it came about half way through and it came with vengeance and never stopped I was halfway through pack 4 when I called. This pill sure does stop pregnancy because who wants to have sex while their pouring blood.
I have been taking lo loestrin fe for almost three months and havent got my period. I did few pregnancy test they all came out negative. why am not getting my period at all?
Like many of the previous poster, I have been plagued with periods almost every 10 days while on lo loestrin FE. I have taken a number of other BC pills in my time and never had this problem. It isn't just spotting either, it is getting heavier each time and more and more painful.
I contacted the manufacturer and they were not aware of this frequent bleeding problem going on. If others reported the problem to the manufacturer directly, that would help them and other consumers. They seem like a good company that is also concerned for their customers. Don't just post side effects here, report them to the manufacturer.
Ladies, thank you for your posts and sorry to hear of problems, but glad I am not alone. I finally convinced my doctor to prescribe something else. This pill is horrible! Constant back pain, stomach discomfort, bloating, painfully sore breasts, and general horrible feeling. And oh yes, so much enjoy having a period every two weeks that lasts for nearly two weeks. Only about two days a month where I feel good. Before taking this pill I had very short, no problem periods. Been a while since taking birth control, but never had this experience before on other pills. Not going to go into forth month with this. Thanks for letting me know I am doing the right thing. Drs. office says no one else has this problem because dose is so low. Oh ya? Hoping another pill will be better.
So, first three months of taking LoLoestrin 24 I didn't get a period at all on the placebos, nothing. I did occassionally feel achy, mildly crampy, but no bleeding at all. Then, last month (March) I started spotting about 5 days before I was to start the placebos. That stopped after a day or so and when I did get to the placebos, no period. I thought, OK just some breakthrough bleeding, nothing big, I'll take it over my heavy, painful, irregular periods earlier last year. Started my next pack and barely 2 weeks in, I started cramping badly, enough to need the heating pad and taking 3 advil at a time. I was spotting, dark brown, not really enough to need a tampon but didn't know what to expect so I kept myself "prepared". Well, it's been 5 days of this now and today I was actually bleeding, not spotting, and still have cramping....again, I still have a third of my pack to go until the placebos. This is driving me crazy, this is the third kind of BC that I've been on since August to help with the pain and heavy irregular bleeding....HELP!
I am SO GLAD I found this site. I've had myself worried sick the last few days...and now I've calmed down considerably seeing that I'm not the only person who is having issues with Lo Loestrin Fe!
Backstory: I was on Yaz for several months for acne in my late teens-early twenties - terrible. Duh.
Then I was on a generic of ortho tri cylen (again, recommended by my dermatologist) in my mid-twenties and I had the worst emotional breakdown - I actually was taken off bc and put on Zoloft for PMDD. Nightmare.
A regular trip to the gyno earlier this year found me discussing Lo Loestrin with my doctor and I decided to try it - AGAIN, with the idea that it would "help my skin" and be OK with the emotional stuff since it's so low on estrogen.
WELL. I'm fine emotionally - but I'm having the SAME physical symptoms as everybody else. I'm on the first week of my third month and - surprise! - I've started bleeding for no apparent reason 5 days after my (light flow but BLACK in color) period ended. I'm having cramps, sore breasts, breakouts on the forehead, etc.
I'm also losing TONS of hair - I was so surprised to read that others have experienced this...the other day I had two tennis-ball-sized clumps in each hand, I kid you not.
I'm at my lowest weight in years (147 lbs) and I feel literally 400 lbs. My pelvis is constantly swollen.
I also broke up with a guy because not only did I not have a sex drive...I actually didn't even want to be kissed, touched - he could have shaken my hand and I would have been like, "eww" -- my attraction to the opposite sex is just...gone. Done.
So, that's that. I'm finishing this pack and I am DONE with birth control. DONE!!! My periods were perfectly normal. Ugh! This stuff is awful.
I am going through menapause and was put on lo loestrin fe to regulate my periods, because they've been very irregular.
My tubes are tied, I had an oblation 2 years ago and within 3 days of taking this pill I have non stop bleeding. This is day 7 on the pill and I've thrown the pack away and am searching for a new doctor.
Thanks to all of you who posted! I thought it was only me and my body crapping out on me; was worried about hysterectomy.
Never was I warned about this side effect. thank you all and good luck to each of you.
Hugs
I began to take Lo Loestrin Fe on 5/17/13, the second day of my period. Everything was going fine and twice, within the first two weeks of taking the pill, I missed taking it on time and wound up taking the pill later or really late in the day (I followed the instructions in the box for what happens when you miss 1 blue pill).
Well, the next morning after being intimate with my boyfriend I began to bleed. At first I thought I was getting my period 2 weeks early! But since I kept bleeding for a whole 7 days without any cramps and they were quite light and brown after a couple of days, I was positive it was breakthrough bleeding.
So today is day 7 and I called by OB/GYN. He suggested that I continue with the pills for 1 more month to see how it works. What he explained to me is that the pill acts like a "glue" for your uterus and if you do not take it on time, even missing it by an hour or more, the uterus lining will start to shed and that is why the BTB happens. He suggested I make sure to take the pill at the SAME TIME EVERY DAY, set an alarm, reminder, or something to make sure of it. If I do and still get BTB, then the dosage may be too low and I will be given different pills that are a level higher in hormones.
Admittedly, I have missed taking my pill within a half hour to 2 hours on "good days" where I remember pretty close to time, and that makes sense as to why I still have the BTB. So, I'm going to stick to the daily reminder I've set for myself on my phone and will see if it goes away.
I was told to start taking Lo Loestrin but my period was late, so Doc gave me a steroid to kick start it. I had 30 days of non stop heavy bleeding, even had to stay home from work several days. Doctor gave me Natazia to stop it, didnt work. He was at a loss and said Lo Loestrin is made to really curb heavy bleeding. (umm). So then I stopped it completely and it finally stopped on it's own about a week later. So i finally have my natural period again two months later. I need birth control and had always thought maybe the steroid was the culprit last time. So I start it again and here we are day 15 and instead of it going away, it's getting heavier. It's really a pain and is causing multiple issues in my relationship. Ugh. I'm going to stop taking it now again and we'll just have to figure something out until I can get a new gyno to take a look.
Gina i bled through the whole 1st packet of loestrin. It stopped when i began the 2nd pack and so far so good. Try and get through the 1st packet and see what happens good luck :)
