How Long After You Stop Suboxone Do You Have Withdrawal Symptoms? (Page 13)

Updated

My 63y/o mother survived chemo and radiation for throat cancer but was unable to stop the morphine 15mg twice a day without horrible withdrawal symptoms. Her MD put her on Suboxone 8mg/2mg once a day in June. She even took half the strip on most days and the doctor was very pleased and anticipated that she would be able to stop altogether in November. She unfortunately had a stroke 14 days ago and has been in the hospital. The first 7 days she was confused from the stroke but now she is weak and forgetful but is no longer disoriented. She told me tonight that she thought she needed her Suboxone. She said she thought she was going thru withdrawal. I was floored. She is not having any outward signs of withdrawal: no back/stomach pain, no nausea/vomiting, no sweating or tremors. Isn't 14 days long enough for the Suboxone to be completely out of your system and for withdrawal symptoms to have come and gone??? Any answers will be greatly appreciated.

Hi Mr Jones, Did you taper down to 1 mg slowly? I know you don,t feel like it but try to get up and move around. Even a 15min walk will really help. I don,t know why just a little excercise helps but it does.
Force yourself to eat something light. Even a couple of bites.
Take a warm shower or bath. That helps a little.
If your being serious about hurting yourself PLEASE call the hospital or a local church or a family member.
Write back and let us know how you are.

Hi Desperate, Glad to hear you said no. Thats gotta be the hardest part for me. I can deal with the taper and jump but have a hard time just saying no. Everybody I work with take pain pills and also sell them. My gf went to visit relatives this past weekend. She called over the weekend and I could tell she was high. I havn,t said anything to her about it. I know her relatives and they like doing the pills. You gotta face it. It,s everywhere. When you get offered or tempted in the future think about what you been through with that crap and think about your family. It,s just not worth it. I know some people believe it or not that will just do a couple oxys on the weekend once in awhile. It's pretty obvious that you and I are not one of those people. If I were to take a couple it would be off to the races even though at the time I would honestly say "just this one time". Your doing great, keep it up!

Thanks for your concern....I had trouble sleeping all night. Problem is I am currently in Arizona where it's 105-110 degrees out.I took the dog for a short walk and thought I would pass out. If I had insurance I probably would go to the hospital....as it is I am trying to ride it out . I lost track but I think I am on day 6 -or 7. If I would have known it was this long..I would have kept taking them. Thank you for your words of encouragement. I don't want to harm myself...yet I almost wish I would die.

Hi Mr jones, I know how you feel. I,ve jumped from subs several times before.
Subs have an incredably long half life and 1mg is still a high dose when it comes to subs. I,ve jumped at a half and even a quarter mg in the past.
If you feel like doing some reading scroll back maybe 2-3 pages in this same post and read comments from poster called "Desperate for answers".
She jumped from a much higher dose and she made it. It might give you some ideas or at the least you can see that your not going out of your mind and it may give you some encouragement.
Post back when you feel like it, sometimes that would help me just to have someone to tell how I was feeling.
Probably most people on here know how crappy your feeling right now.
Even if you could get out after dark for a little after it cools down some may help.
Hang in there.

How long do I have to be off Suboxone before I can start my Dilaudid's again, because from what I see the Suboxone is worse than getting off the Dilaudids? The Suboxone does not help my pain, I had surgery on my neck and they went through my throat and messed up my voice box. Bad lower back and scoliousis in mid back, Im in alot of pain. I took a 8 MG dose yesterday am?

Hi Big T, The analgesic part of suboxone only lasts for around 6hrs. The part of it that takes away the wds lasts for a long time. I,m on it for substance abuse but I also have pain issue so my dr. has me split up my dose 3 times a day. Kind of kills 2 birds with one stone. As far as taking pain med after suboxone, I,d wait a day then you should be in the clear. Thats just me. Some drs. reccomend 48-72 hrs. Its when you start to take suboxone your suppose to be in wds or you could get very sick.

Mr. Jones I'm glad to hear your doing good!! It sucks I know! But please stick with it. I stopped at 2-3 8 mg pulls a day and was he'll but am SOO GLAD I stuck it out!! My mind does play tricks with me and honestly wish I could just take them here and there but I can't and I know that. But being free of the tiredness and the guilt I'd go through it again! Keep me updated on how ur doin please:)

Thanks.....I am on day 10-11' ..I lost track. I do feel much better as time goes on. I have my appetite back and have been getting out of the house for walks. My sleep is still erratic, and my energy gets zapped quick but I feel I have weathered the worst of the storm. I Thank you and everyone else on this site for their encouragement. I really think this drug should be banned. It's very dangerous...but can be beat !

Hi Mr. Jones, I don,t think suboxone should be banned. I think it has it,s place in recovery. Some people might be dead without it. Others could be in prison with out it. What I do think is doctors that prescribe it should be much more flexible with the insurance end of it but more importantly they need to be a lot more helpful with the taper and end of treatment process.
When a patient wants off they should taper them off and prescribe comfort meds if neccesary.
This should be standard practice at least for a few days to make patients comfortable. They should offer a follow up visit for a week or two to make sure the patient is doing allright. The sub drs I,ve been to in past havn,t done any of this. I take that back, one did.
Patients should be encouraged to get off this med. This is all just my opinion.

Jolter....I agree. This drug should not be looked at as a life long treatment. They also prescribe to much of it to there patience. My dr knew I was taking 2-3 8 mg pills a day and when I told him I'm stopping cold turkey he offered no advice and nothing for wds. Just said good luck. Little did I know quiting like that could have put me in the hospital!! It should be monitored better but it's a money making deal for them!!!

Hey Desperate, One sub dr. I had asked me on first visit what dose I wanted to start out on. I had told him I,d been on subs before but relasped. Can you believe that? Just wrote the script and I was on my way.
Desperate you were so lucky to get off the subs while at such a high dose. You really did get lucky. It could have gone really bad.
Your a tough one! lol

How long were you on the suboxone? I started opiates at 16yrs old, pills mostly. At 23 started H.... I'm 30 now and for almost the last 2 yrs. been on subs 8mg 2x daily, went down from 3x daily. I just recently had a problem w my insurance and feel almost as bad as when going through withdrawals off H back then haven't had my subs for over 3 days. I'm scared to ever come off because if I am going to feel like this I will use again.

I was on pain pills for 5 years. I was taking at least 20 a day at the end! I finally told my wife and went to see a suboxin doctor and went to one time fro a week. He gave me a script and I ran out of those and found three different people I could get them from so I never went back to doc because it was too expensive. I was on suboxin for another 4 years taking to many of them for a while then in the last 2 months I started tapering myself off of them from 4 a day to 2 a day to 1 a day a half a day then 1 mg a day then. I have been clean now for 102 hours. The last week at 1 mg was hell and the first 4 days where bad. Still filling restless legs but better then the first four days. I just hope this don't last 30 days like some other people that would be hell. I have had no problems sleeping if I do I just take a half of zanix to go to bed like last night restless legs took that and sleep for 9 hours.

I was on varies pain pills for 14yrs. I was on suboxone for little over a year. It is not easy changing ur life in such a drimatic way....yourwhole way of thinking must change and that takes a lot of time. I always tell myself do you want to be on drugs the rest of your life because that is the alternative! Life is meant to live. To go explore and do things, to love and be loved and I for one only cared about being high and that was not a life I wanted to live anymore....we all have our choices and demons to bare! I believe we all are strong to enough to face them:)

Wow what a road you have travelled. I have been tapering down now for 6weeks started last year at 16mg now at 4 or less a day it has been 14 months since I started using sub. I was in a very bad spot using vicodine and other drugs up to 15 a day. My life is so much better there is no comparison to how I am now . I hop to be totally free by 9/14. My doctor has been really great. No judgement no bull. He has let me make the decisions. It helps to have guidance keep checking in I wish you every success never stop trying to quit.

Ive been through perks, oxy 30s, hydros, you name it for 3 years now. Ive been on suboxen 3 months now and went from 4mg to 2 mg in a month and a half and for the past 2 weeks i went down to 1mg. Im feeling the effects of withdrawls 3 days after and havent slept is my only symptom really left. I suffer from RLS (restless leg syndrome) during the night from this. Anyone have any tricks or anything so a guy can sleep? I know a hot bath would help but any thoughts
