How Long After Taking A Suboxone Can You Take An Opiate? (Page 4)

Updated

I have been on 8 mg/2mg Suboxone strips for 1 year. I am having a tooth (back molar) extraction in the morning. I used my Suboxone strip this morning & the tooth extraction is at 9:30 am tomorrow. If I don't use another Suboxone strip before the extraction, would I be able to take Hydrocodone after my surgery? I don't want to get sick, but I am terrified of going through this surgery with no pain meds. Please help.

Wrong AGAIN....suboxone ia a PARTAIL agonist.....Methadone is a FULL agonist just like oxy, hydro..etc.....you've got it all backwards, you should really know your stuff before giving medical advice.....It does not take anywhere near a year to start being able to take full agonists again... suboxone has a half-life of 24 hours. So i you take 8mg then 24 hours later it like you still have 4mg working....24 hours later its like having 2mg still working,,,and so on......since suboxone is a PARTIAL agonist you can safely say that just about any full agonist you take will again be effective around 60 -72 hours after taking that last 8 mg dose.....Even though some Bupe will still be active.....its only partially binding and you can take the pain meds....vikes, percs...whatever and they will be effective against pain...you may need to take a lot but that is not what you want or ideal.

Yo man I've been taking the same 8mg/2mg suboxone strip for about a yr as well...idk if you take the whole thing but I'm on Id say a 1/10 of a piece and have been able to take opioid within in the same day not getting sick at all but unfortunately it really kills the high, now as far as just relievin pain I'm sure it would be the same ordeal, helpful but not strong enough so I'd wait it out if possible to get as much affect as possible! Good luck & safe surgery man & just a reminder I dont take full strip just about a 1/10 of a piece

If you are addicted to oxy's and have been for awhile, you might find the pain which caused you to start the medication no longer exists. Three days of Subs should get you through the oxy withdrawals painlessly. Now stop taking the Subs before you get addicted to them. You will have PAWS from the oxy's but it is not even close to the misery of withdrawals from subs. If you start taking subs on a regular basis, you will become addicted fast and will not be able to break the addiction. I am on day 110 from taking my last 8 mg strip of Suboxone and I am still in acute withdrawals. I found that Simpson oil relieves the stomach cramps. Klonopin stops the shaking legs. I have five years experience on oxy's and another five on Suboxone. If I were to do it again I would have stopped the subs on day two or three and went on with my life. We all have something in common. If we knew back then what we know now, we would have never started and after being addicted to oxy's I would have only used subs to mask the oxy withdrawal. Not all people need subs for longer than three days. Some may because of their addiction to street drugs but remember subs bring their own hell to your life and are darn near impossible to get off once addicted. This is my experience and by the way I have never taken an opiate that was not prescribed.

You CANNOT go into withdrawls by taking an opiate AFTER a suboxone...it only works the other way around. The only thing that would happen if taking an opiate too soon after suboxone...is nothing, the opiate won't work. This is because buprenorphine is "stronger" so to speak when it comes to the mu recepter. Just had surgery, took my sub24 hrs beforehand, everything went well. Taking my norco meds now, then when script is over, I WILL wait until I feel slight withdrawl to start up suboxone again, because that's where the withdrawl could happen. Suboxone after opiate, not opiate after suboxone.

Bulls*** just wait 24 hours. I wait 24 hours but by 32 hours it should be completely out of your receptors and available for other opiates to enter. Since hydrocodone is not strong you might not feel it after 24 hours. Unless you take extra I would wait 32 hours if I were you. Only eight milligrams you're taking so that's not that much. I take 24 milligrams. I just took 16 milligrams of Suboxone and don't feel anything. Also extracting a tooth or whatever can be taken care of with ibuprofen 600 milligram or Tylenol. It does not even hurt, just try not to get a dry socket by smoking.

I had shoulder surgery. I am and have been taking 1mg. of suboxone for years. My surgeon prescribed 30- 5mgs of percocet for post op. I called my sub doctor and he was not available, but someone else fielded the call and told me to take the 1mg. on the morning prior to surgery! As I was getting prepped for the surgery the anesthesiologist looked at my chart and replied since your on suboxone, the proper method is to start taking percocets 2 weeks prior to surgery. She further stated the percocets are not going to help you and you will be in a lot of pain....She was 100% correct, I suffered for nearly 2 weeks after the nerve block worn off! WARNING- IF YOU HAVE A PLANNED PROCEDURE YOUR SUB DOC SHOULD PRESCRIBE YOUR PAIN MEDS.....YOU SHOULD START THEM 2 WEEKS PRIOR TO SURGERY!!!!!!!!

I sooooo agree, I've Bn trying to wean myself off of subs forever now, and I can't, everytime I think I'm done, I start gettn sick a week later, and I can't risk the anxiety attacks or missing wrk, plus taking care of my kids... I wish I wulda never touched a suboxone ever. It was way easier just quitting hydros... 3-4days of shutting, body aches, then it's over.. Long as there's no anxiety attacks

I completely agree. I was (and continue to be) shocked at the answer given. I am NOT a doctor so I will not weigh in, I am however a Suboxone patient. The very first rule about Suboxone is you MUST talk to your provider BEFORE stopping, changing or anything like that. Please do not take important medical/medicinal advice from a chat room, unless you are using it for support. Each of us are different and may not have the same reaction as the person seeking advise. Good luck to you and please, call ur care provider.

I've been on 120 milligrams of oxycodone for almost a year now I've been taking opiates since 2006 almost 10 years now. I really want to stop taking opiates because they don't do anything and I know it will just get worse. I tried taking Suboxone for the last 3 days and I barely got by. I took 1 8 milligram strip the first day on the second day and a half a strip at 5 a.m. the third day. I tried it just to see if I could do it because I'm tired of taking opiates my body is exhausted and I feel run down all the time. Plus the opiates aren't doing too much for my pain. I don't know what to do should I take an opiate 13 hours after taking a 4 milligram suboxone. I see my pain management doctor in 5 days. I will probably just get kicked off my pain management anyway because I'm sure the suboxone won't be out of my body by then. Thank you in advance
