How Long Does Methadone Show Up In A Oral Swab Drug Test (Top voted first)

I will be going for a job interview at some point next week, more than likely it will be early in the week ( in about 3 days) today i took 4 10mg methadone pills. It will be a saliva test that i have to take, how long will the drug be detectable in a saliva test?

No, no, no....methadone can not be detected in a drug screen because it is SYNTHETIC. They can only find it if they are specifically looking for it. Trust me: #1 I'm a Registered Nurse and #2 I had to do drops 3x per week for 9 months when my ex husband was fighting me for custody. I have been taking Methadone daily for pain reasons for 3 years. It was NEVER positive...NOT ONCE.

Yes it can I took two 10mg methadone on a Wednesday and tested the following Tuesday and was just informed I failed for methadone. A friend told me you can put lister one strips under your tounge right before testing and have a significant chance of passing. I make no promise however he did pass in a shorter timeframe than me. Hope this helps

Robin, it was an oral mouth swab you took 3x for 9 months or urine? You say you dropped and that makes me think urine I need to know about an oral mouth swab.

This answer is really not true or false. Here is the bottom line with methadone and drug tests. What is accurate; Methadone is not a true opiate and will not show up on a 5 panel drug screen due to the fact that they only look at the following drugs:

1. Thc
2. Cocaine metabolite
3. Amphetamines
4. PCP
5. Opiates

So if you are taking a 5 panel screen you're golden. However the false part is this; if you're taking a 10-panel screen you will come up positive for methadone in saliva if you've taken it within 48 hrs (up to 7 days in urine). These 10 panels add the following drugs in addition to the 5 previous I listed. 1. methadone 2. Barbiturates 3. Benzodiazepines 4. Quaaludes.

The last one seems to differ from test to test but they may or may not include any of the following: Propoxyphene (darvocet), triycilic antidepressants, & Oxy (the opiate test apparently doesn't cover oxy). Under no circumstance have I ever witnessed a 10 panel that doesn't test for methadone.

I know this is an old post but just in case people end up here looking for answers I wanted to give an accurate response. You can always ask when at the testing location what type of screening they use. They may be a tad suspicious but just tell them you want to know if a prescription you take will show up so you can explain to your employer ahead of time. That way you aren't stressing after the fact for nothing. Try stinger or ultra wash detox mouthwash 15 min or so before hand to ease the worry and you'll be fine.

I took 50 mg of methadone from 16th - 18th (Tuesday-Thursday) and I had to take a oral swab drug test today which is the 19th (Friday) am I going to fail this drug test??.. how many days or weeks does it usually take to have a passing drug screen??.. is there anything I can do like drink lots of cranberry juice/water to try to clean my system out a bit ?? Please I need answers, I've been trying to find a answer on here & keep reading different things every time!!

I'm no expert, I can only speak from experience and I was drug tested for a job yesterday and it was specifically marked as methadone was one of the things tested for (on paper at least) and I take 80mg per day everyday and I passed it no questions asked. I don't know how and I don't know if they mark it to try to scare you into admitting to something but 100% passed.
I do know that places have to do a specific and specialized test to detect it and I'm guessing they don't want to pay up for it but expect by making sure you see that it's on the list that you will tell someone.
I don't know about how many people get this for pain management but I know for me and everyone I know it's for addiction treatment and I'm definitely not going to apply for a job and admit to drug abuse without them managing to find it first.

Hello folks, methadone won't show up in any test unless it's asked upon to look specifically for it. It doesn't show up as methadone it turns to another substance.

That is completely false. In fact, a standard 10 panel drug test, like many employers use, specifically tests for Methadone. I'm not sure what being a nurse has to do with it. I have been prescribed methadone for over a year now, and I just got a drug test for a new job. A few minutes ago the testing company called to let me know there was methadone present. I told them I go to a clinic and am legally prescribed it, so I just have to have my clinic fax the testing company something on clinic letterhead stating that I am a legitimate patient there within 3 days. No problems. They said as long as they get that letter they will report a regular negative result to my potential employer. I really appreciate that too, as I would prefer they didn't know I was in treatment. You know? A drug being synthetic has NOTHING TO DO with whether or not it shows up on a drug screen. Please don't spread answers as a nurse if you don't know what the hell you're talking about. You gonna wind up costing people their jobs!

Hi Daphne,

I'm 95% sure your screen will show positive for methadone..IF you have a legit prescription, tell them now..Methadone stays in the body a longer time than some other narcotics; 50Mg would prob show up for at least 10 days..at least that's been my experience..and no amount of drinking anything will purge it..good luck

I have a question for u I have a drug test coming up in two maybe three days and I've done methadone for alomost two years I bet the test then my last test came up.positive and so the method I was using no longer works. Do u have any ideas of things I can do.or take to pass the test?

That is not true. I just had a saliva test a week ago and I had methadone and Percocet in my system and the methadone showed up.

I have been taking liquid methadone for 5+years and have taken 100mg that entire time. I recently stopped using it and during that time had many urine screens at the methadone clinic I attended. I assure everyone that the test must test specific for methadone for it to show up in urine or saliva. I don't know detection times but I quit cold turkey and know I felt my body detoxing for 10+ days. No methadone and norcos do not show up as barbiturates and aren't even the same. Methadone is a synthetic opioid and norcos are an opiate.

I have been perscribed 10 mg of methadone for 3 years. Recently I started taking only 5 mg a day. I took 15 mg and did a swab test for pain mgmt came up negative. How can that be? I want to stop live with the pain how will the withdrawls be? Approx how long?

Hi kayla..When is your swab? If you only took 1 10mg pill, chances are test will be show positive IF swab is done within 10 days..unfortunately, methadone stays in system longer than a lot of other meds, esp if you have taken it for more than a few months.Good luck..
