I put on my 50mcg patch 15hrs ago. Should I not feel the full effect of relief by now? ## Dear Richard, yes, u should feel it by now. I use 2 b on the patch, but they never really worked well 4 me. Maybe your like I was or u need an increase.GOOD LUCK! ## Hello, Richard! How are you? A Fentanyl patch? If so, Cats68 is right and you should be feeling some effect by now. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. But, they also don't work well for everyone. Have you informed your doctor, yet?

I recently went through bilateral mastectomy due to breast cancer. Chemo & herceptin treatments all done, but because of continual pain I was on percocet for a year, and then switched to 12mcg fentanyl patch, and recently up to a 25mcg patch. I do not want to keep taking these pain meds. So....I stopped cold turkey the patch and I am not able to sleep at night, restless body syndrome, hot & cold spells & extreme anxiety. What can I do to help with these symptoms & how long before it will take me to get through this withdrawal time? Do I need to call my doctor? ## Hello, Linda! How are you doing? I am very sorry that you had cancer. Fentanyl is a very potent narcotic, it is 81 times stronger than Morphine and you went cold turkey off of it, so the symptoms you've been...

how long does the nausea and vomiting last? ## There is no way to say with certainty, much of it depends on the person. Without more information, such as the dosage and how long you were on it, I can't even really provide you with a rough estimate. Can you post back with more details? Thanks! This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. ## I started out on the 12.5 mcg. moving up to the 75 mcg over a eight month period. made me awful sick, weight loss, vomiting, abdominal pain ect.. went back down to the 50 mcg then 25 mcg. took that patch off 30 days ago. still having slight withdrawls. but, the nausea ( all the time) and vomiting ( 2-3 times a week) are very ...

Im on 50mcg patch wanting to cut down to 25 mcg. Have the non liquid patch. Cutting the patch in half. Withdrawl for me feel like a bad case of flu with some nausea w headache. How long should it take me to adjust to lower dose. I know its safe to cut non liquid patch but I caution any one trying to cut liquid patch. I will give tips on another post. Can anyone commenton witdrawal time. Should I try to take more oxy 10mg I also have to ease withdrawl ? Thanks for comments. Joe ## Hello, Joe! How are you? No, it is not safe to cut any of these patches, since they all use some form of time release in the patch itself to control how much of the medication you get, at once. If you wish to lower your dose, please speak to your doctor so they can prescribe the lower dose patches. And the with...

I am currently taking the 50 mcg/hr fentanyl patch. I have symatic dysfunction of the sacrum. Have been on vicoden 10/660, those were probably the best. (4 per day). Then doctor wanted more of a pain management therapy. we tried the 30mg morphine, didnt work at all, wanted to increase to the 60mg but they are not prescribed hardly ever and no pharmacy even carries them. They have to be ordered and then if you do get them, they are extremely expensive, even with insurance. You have to go up to at least the 80mg then the price goes down considerably. the fentanyl seems to be the best working for me but i need to be bumped up in mg. Like i said, im on the 50 now. If I go to the 75, is it going to be like trying to find the 60mg morphine? Or do i need to just go up to the 100 fentanyl. I do...

It sounds to me like she could be heavily influenced by other so-called "friends"/abusers who regularly associate with her. Unfortunately this may just be one of those hardships she has to get through on her own if she wants to learn from her mistakes. There's only so much you can do as a parent without being able to make these kinds of decisions for her. Is ...

IF I ONLY USED TWO 50 MCG FENTANYL PATCHES, REMOVED THEN WITH SIXTY HOURS, HOW LONG WILL IT BE IN MY SYSTEM? ## Hello, Olivia! How are you? Fentanyl is a very strong opiate that can also be habit forming, it's over 80 times stronger than Morphine, so it's possible to experience withdrawals even after just using it for a very short time. The half-life for Fentanyl is approximately 20 to 27 hours, that's the amount of time it will take to reach 50% in your body and full elimination takes 5 to 6 half-lives, so that would be 100 to 162 hours (4.17 to 6.75 days). With will most likely start around that 50% mark. Learn more Fentanyl details here. Having only used it for a short period of time, they shouldn't be severe, but you may still experience chills, fever, nausea, dizzin...

For all of you with withdrawal problems, don't believe want most people have to say, here is the easy way. I was 100mcg for 1 year and now off. Here is how it's done... From 100mcg, drop to 75mcg for 6 patches. After the 75 go on 50 for 6 patches, then drop to fo for 6 patches, then drop to 25 for 6 patches, then drop to 12.5 (yes they make them) . After the 12.5 start cutting the 12.5's in half (Mylan brand only!) this will put you at around 6mcg wear the 6's for 4 patch changes. Then you're off. It is not that hard to taperI I waited a month because of all of the horrible stories read, I was dreading the withdrawal that people explain here. Sure if you go from 100 to 0 it will be hell! But tapering properly, I never felt any withdrawal symptoms. ## Disabled from sp...

I am only 19 and have has a disc protrusion. I have been prescribed fentanyl patches 50mcg/hour but after using them twice (6days) I felt terrible with a lot of sweating and shaking and vomiting. I thing cut down to the 25mcg/hour and have felt better usually but have started to wake up during the night with an intense tingling sensation that feels like it's from inside my forearms and it is unbearable, it lasts up to 7 hours. Is this a side effect from the fentanyl? And how to do stop it? Do I stop wearing the patches? Because I can not handle to feeling down my arms. Any help is much appreciated. Thank you ## Hello, Sav! Many people are concerned about using this drug, and we have had many posters talk about wanting to abuse these types of meds, so I just wanted to share this article with everyone. {link removed due to being invalid} ## How sad. ## I used the patch for two years properly yet had withdrawal or overdose symptoms frequently when changed to a generic form. I suffered greatly and the doctors had no idea what was wrong. I found out from internet what was happening to me.There is the misconception that only misusers are having problems. I followed procedures correctly and only had trouble with gereric forms. They would release too much or none. ## I have taken this medication responsibly for six years. I have numerous fellow chronic pain friends who have taken it responsibly and successfully. ...

I herniated a disc in Feb 2011 that didn't respond to a microdiscectomy, so was going thru intensive PT before deciding whether or not to do a fusion. Well, in early Dec of 2011, I came down with Guillian-Barre Syndrome, a rare syndrome where your immune system attacks your peripheral nervous system. Recovering from GBS can be extremely painful. My case left me temporarily paralyzed from the waist down and I've been I'm the wheelchair for almost 9mos. I have a wonderful therapist and am using my walker more and more each week. Anyway, I've been on oxycodone 5mg and tramadol since Oct and the pain relief has been minimal. So, my PCP (handling pain meds in lieu of ortho right now- not seeing ortho until GBS "gets fixed.") put me on the 50ug fentanyl patch. The firs...

I was on fentanyl for 3 years. I lost half of my monthly dose and just didn't take any. I had it last march 26 and JUST FOUND THE BOX! I have not been on any narcotics since then, I hurt really bad, is it safe to put on a patch? ## Have you consulted your doctor? What dosage are the patches? There may be some issues, since you went from being on it, to being off, then suddenly jump back on, without taking anything else in the meantime. Your tolerance levels may have changed, so I'd suggest consulting your doctor first. ## The out of date would not worry me as much as jumping back on. I'd suggest using breakthrough meds until you talk to Dr. You had no withdrawal. Did I miss the strength or no. I would not worry if its a start dose 12.5 or so

Is there an acceptable level of medication to be on and be employable? Spouse currntly on fentanyl 100, hydrocodone 500mg as needed, cymbalta 120 mg daily, gabapentin 180 mg, and ambien? ## Hello, John! How are you? It really depends on company policy and what the job duties entail. For instance, if the person is doing a job that requires mental alertness, such as driving a semi or operating heavy machinery, then it may not be acceptable to work under the influence of any of it. What type of job does your spouse do?

Been on fentanyl patch for 5yr @50 for 24 hrs need to know how to stop bad with draw ## If you stopped it cold turkey after being on it that long, there really isn't much you can do to stop the withdrawal symptoms, unless you'd go back on it. If it gets too bad and you feel that you are in danger, you can go to your nearest ER for assistance. And have you asked your doctor for help?

I started at a new Pain Clinic in early October of this year. Was with previous Dr. for 4 years, but found out he was unethical. And recently found out he has put 1/2 of my monthly income in serious jeopardy, because, although he was paid big bucks in advance, he never filled out the forms for my Long Term Disability Company!! So, I have been advised to report him to the Georgia Board of Health! Met new doc and said previous doc was not providing me with enough pain medication.I had been diagnosed in late July with Hypothyroidism and that's what made my chronic pain even worse. She became a total b**** and said, "I don't think I'm the dr. for you, we just don't hand out pills here!" She did not want to see any of my scans, she did not want to see any of all of the...

I have been on Norco and now Fentanyl patches 62mg for over five years now because of chronic lower back pain. My husband sat me down last week and said he can't deal with my mood swings anymore and wants me off meds. I am willing to do it to save our marriage and an really scared of the withdrawal. If I don't take the Norco for over three days my arms and legs get so .. I don't know how to explain it. I have to move them. If I take the Norco and a muscle relaxer (or two) I'm fine. So that's all in my head now. Skip to present, my Dr. is putting me on a taper with MS Contin, 60mg/4x/day for three days, going to 60mg/3x & 30/1x for another three, decreasing the dosage every three days if my body can handle it. Took one 60mg this morning and felt relaxed, but shaky...

I was in surgical intensive care for 5 days. The complaint was diverticulitis. My condition was potentially very serious but my vitals were coming back close to normal. I was kept in surgical ICU in the event the numbers changed which would require immediate surgery. The attack occurred at home shortly before I was to leave for work. It felt like someone had driven a knife into my gut and it brought me to my knees and eventually totally prone on the floor. In ICU the pain relieving drug that was given to me was Fentanyl. They would give it to me on request at intervals of one hour .. sometimes less if requested. I could see that there was about 1 CM length of liquid in the smallish hypo syringe. The effect was immediate. The pain subsided dramatically. When taken to a regular hospital b...

Have you found a new doctor, yet? Due to the new regulations that were enacted this year, if you require such a medication on a long-term basis for chronic pain, you'll likely need to see a pain management specialist. In most cases, that'll require a referral from a PCP. Have you found a PCP? Learn more Fentanyl details here. Can anyone suggest a good doctor in that area? ## Unfortunately I've had no luck what so ever. I'm just really upset that these doctors offices that I have contacted are telling me th...
