I had two x-rays done by two different doctors here in Appleton WI, one said I have arthritis in my lower back, another one recently told me it is osteoarthritis. The pain is getting worse. But not one of these doctors prescribed pain medication. The 2 months of physical therapy ( the 1st doctor set me up with ) did NOT help at all, and after this last doctor telling me to do the same thing, I gave up, now hoping someone on here knows of a caring doctor here in the Fox Valley area. I would appreciate any help. ## Hi Oren, Sorry to hear about your run in with those "inexperienced" doctors. I may not have a caring doctor I can refer you to, but I can provide you with a couple links that may be of service to you in so far as finding pain management doctors within your general area....

I've been on Fentanyl patches for 5 years and was on 125mcg, new Pain Consultant wanted me to cut back to 112mcg which I have done, been getting normal withdrawal, nausea, restlessness, headaches, joint pain, increased pain for which I'm taking 40mg in 2ml Oramorph, but have also got chest pain, especially if I bend or stretch or stand up, is this normal or should I see my doctor? ## Hello, Karen! How are you feeling? Any chest pain should be checked out by a doctor immediately, there is always a chance that it's something dangerous, so better safe than sorry, where that is concerned. However, from what you're describing with it happening when you bend, stretch or stand up, it may be costochondritis, which is an inflammation that occurs where the ribs connect to the ster...

I've been on 150mcg Fentanyl patches Q48 for over 8 yrs. 7 months ago we reduced it to 125 mcg Q48 i only had the chills for a few days. 6 weeks ago we lowered again to 100 mcg. and I am having trouble sleeping, i cant turn my mind off and i cant stop talking? And for the first time I am really feeling the pain in my neck & shoulders. My work comp. insurance wants me off them asap. What can I take for the chronic pain? I hate pills. ## Those can be normal withdrawal effects, you may also experience nausea, diarrhea and dizziness. There isn't anything else available that's as strong as Fentanyl. My Dr wants to switch me off of fentanyl because my insurance won't cover it (except under extreme circumstances). I might qualify for those circumstances because I'm allergic to almost every pain med. But we're not sure and I need some other options. What are some of the other long acting opiates that aren't going to cause servere nausea (I have cyclic vomiting syndrome) or are patches like the fentanyl? ## Hi, CD! Sorry about the problems that you're having. However, nausea and vomiting can be a side effect of all opiates, so there's really no way to say which ones may work for you, without causing it. But you may want to talk to your doctor about Butrans and see if your insurance will cover it. It's a transdermal patch, similar to the Fentanyl, that contai...

I have been on Fentanyl for a long time. 3 weeks ago I kept a patch on for over a week without changing it and then took it off a day before going to the doctor. I had sweating, nausea, pain but I tolerated it. My doctor was upset that I did it but I was so desperate to come off of it, I would try anything. She put me on 12 mg patches for 2 weeks and then I was to go onto something else. I was having a horrible time with the low dose patch and put on a 25 mg 2 days before seeing my doctor. She has given me a prescription for Oxyneo 10mg to be taken twice a day. I'm wondering if I should keep the patch on for a week and during this time start the Oxy. Anyone had a similar experience? Can anyone tell me what their experience with Oxyneo has been? ## Hi Ritzi, Sorry to hear about your ...

I'm on my fourth day cold turkey. the withdrawals suck. any advice? ## 5th day cold turkey feel worn out no energy cant sleep well its hard to type any advise ## Hi BAR, Sorry to hear about your challenges coming off Fentanyl. I actually just came across a couple discussion threads here that may have some insightful information for you, in regards to withdrawals. Ultimately, no one should ever cold turkey this type of medication. But in event that you have no other choice, I think one of the best things you can do is research and see what others are doing who may have overcome a similar situation: Discuss/Fentanyl-Can-I-Just-Go-Cold-Turkey-When-Quitting-226833.htm Discuss/FENTANYL-50-MCG-HOUR-TRANSDERMAL-PATCH-174968.htm Have you...

I have recently begun using the Fentanyl patch for back pain control. About a week ago I noticed that my legs and feet have begun to hurt. Is this a Fentanyl side effect? Thank you! ## HI, Katherine! It shouldn't be, since it is a potent narcotic used to relieve pain, but some of them do cause some inflammation in some people that take them, which can lead to pain. Learn more Fentanyl details here. However, there is also a chance that it could be due to some other issue. Have you consulted your doctor about it?

I have been on tylenol4 precocet and now I am taking 150mg of fentanyl patches for over 6 years now I have told my DR about my withdrawels if I don't put them on at the right day I am tired of this I just want it out of my body and i can not do it by myself I tell my Dr and he just keeps putting up the dosage this is not helping ## Have you specifically told him that you'd like to get off of them? He may not actually understanding that, if you're just complaining about the withdrawals and other side effects. Learn more Fentanyl details here. I'm not sure what the options are in Canada to help you with this, but you doctor should be able to assist. If not, or if they really aren't listening to you, it may be time to see a different doctor.

Is this normal to feel like death ## Hi J, Sorry to hear about your experience with Fentanyl. While I don't think it's common to feel this way, Fentanyl is regarded as a very powerful medication. So it could be that your body just isn't used to having something so potent in its system. Also, from what I've read in other discussion threads, the side effects of this medication can and often do take their toll on the body, in a way that may make some people feel "lifeless", weak, or very ill. My suggestion is, if you don't like how your body is responding to it, then you should probably consider other forms of pain management. Perhaps something natural that can be used as an adjunctive therapy, alongside something weaker than Fentanyl (that you can more easily t...

If you are taking a fentanyl patch of 100 every 48 hours what is the next step that is necessary to help control the pain.b ## Hi, Bernie! How are you? On this, I really have to admit that I'm not sure. Fentanyl is the strongest opiate narcotic available to treat pain, so I'm not sure where else you could go. In some extreme cases, I do know that doctors have resorted to combining patches for someone that's grown tolerant to the highest dosage and is very tolerant to opiates in general, so that's possibly an option. Though this is usually reserved for those with intractable pain due to cancer or other severe, life threatening illnesses. In some cases, they can hit a point where comfort and quality of life outweigh the fear of prescribing too high of a dosage. Learn more ...

Then you would get drug coverage from the government, and be able to afford your meds. When you go thru an out of country pharmacy, you have no idea what is even in those pills. It could be nothing but cellulose.. Go to your welfare office and start SSI applications, then find yourself a lawyer that will handle your dissibilty case. They usually take...

Can I just stop taking fentanyl patch 25? ## No you risk suffering from opiate withdrawal if you have been on the medication for any length of time say for more than a few months. Opiate withdrawal is extremely painful and very unnecessary especially if you have a legitimate prescription for it. ## That is correct, while it may seem small, since the dosage is only 25mcgs, Fentanyl is actually a very potent narcotic. It is actually over 80 times stronger than Morphine. Therefore, if you have been taking it for awhile and want to stop using it, you should seek medical assistance for the best way to taper off, while minimizing the withdrawal and rebound effects. Are there any other questions or comments? ## Of of 25 is minuscule I'm on 150!,... ## Ahhh...ok,here's my situation...I ...

Sorry you're so miserable. Vertigo can be quite awful to deal with. If I had to make a guess, I'd suggest that the most likely culprit is the Fentanyl, since it's a very potent opiate narcotic, it's over 80 time stronger than Morphine. My Pain Specialist who prescribed fentanyl actin lollipops 800 mcg has retired and I can not find any doctor anywhere who will. I live in Johnstown, PA I will run out in a few weeks and then I guess have to go to a Detox center. I did this once before. I had no problem after being detoxed. I had no cravings for fentanyl Actiq. I worked the twelve step program for a year but my pain just got worse and worse to the point I was seriously going to commit suicide. Then my neurology doctor referred me to a pain specialist who did prescribe me fentanyl actin lollipops 800 mcg four a day. I did not wish to start fentanyl again. I was disappointed but I could not take the pain so I went ahead and began to use the fentanyl and at least I could function yet I still had pain. I get no thrills from ...

I am on 25 mcg of fentanyl patch can I use exalgo 16 mg for breakthrough pain ## Hi Nereidao, From what I could gather, there are no drug interactions or contraindications listed between Fentanyl and Exalgo (hydromorphone). So both of these medications are considered to be safe when taken together or within the same time frame. Alcohol and grapefruit are pretty much the main things you should probably stay away from as far as drug interactions are concerned; since having them together may cause serious life threatening side effects. I hope this info helps!

I have been on 25mg every 72 hrs for 5 months went up to 50mg every 73 hrs for 3 patches then up to 75mg for 6 patches now dropped to 25mg on once in 72 hours. What can expect--want to wean off? ## Hi, Beth! Have you talked to your doctor about this, yet? Fentanyl is a very potent narcotic and you've been taking it for several months, so it isn't safe for you to just abruptly stop. Doing so creates the risk of your developing rebound pain and withdrawal symptoms. Stopping is usually best down via a very slow taper, for instance your doctor may have you lengthen the time span between when you apply the patches. Learn more Fentanyl details here.

Hello everyone. I am in a relationship with someone who has suffered a severe neck whiplash injury in a car accident. As far as I understand it, the nerves in her neck and shoulders are constantly sending signals to her brain, which cause her to have something like tension headaches (for a lack of a better word). She is constantly in a lot of severe pain, this even though she is on morphine medication. Her doctor prescribed the Fentanyl patch a few months ago after a particularly long stretch of severe pain. She was on another less potent patch before (I can't remember the name now), and that worked ok'ish, but she developed a rash, so she was taken off that patch and was given morphine pills that she was supposed to use just until the Fentanyl patch arrive. As I mentioned, she ...

My insurance paid $4900 for the lollipops200mcg and $9900 for the Fentora 400mcg Fentanyl. ## Hi, Ed! Yes, Fentanyl is an opiate narcotic that's used to alleviate pain, it's actually the most potent one available, over 80 times stronger than Morphine. It also has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Are there any other questions or concerns? I saw a new PM doctor yesterday. He was extremely nice as far as his personality. But when it came to the medications, he just wouldn't listen. I have a very low tolerance for strong pain meds. The strongest I can go is a Lortab 10/500 (which I've been on since 2005 successfully). Anything above that makes me sick or euphoric along with other challenging side effects. The only side effect from the Lortab I dealt with was dry mouth. No biggy. This new doctor doesn't believe in the short acting medications as a primary source of pain relief. Even after I explained to him that ever since I was a pre-teen, the long acting medications make me sick. I can take the exact same medication in short acting form and be just fine, but continuous is a disaster. Yesterday at my appt he put...
