hi ive been on a norspan patch (15mg) for some months. methadone tablets before that for some yrs post lower back fusion, S1-L5 in 2003. the norspan patch has not covered the pain control so my specialist ordered an MRI and now I have a protruding disc at L4. this was to be expected I was told due to the extra workload on my lower back. I have been given the fentanyl patch and told that it will be increasing next visit but I was not told to just stop the norspan or ween off slowly? Due to constant itching on the norspan Im coming off at 5mg/week anyway but not sure if now I should just take patch off and be done with it? I do not want to if possible go thru to many withdrawal symptoms? Thanks for any answers ## I am in a similar situation. Have been taking norspan 20mg for over 12 month...

I got a serious question to ask .I just had lower back surgery, a fusion with a cage.My dr.have me the fentanal 50MCG PATCHES,WITH 60 MG OF MS CONTIN EVERY 12 HRS. AM I GONNA BE OK IM MORE AFRAID OF OVER DOING IT .IM ALSO SUPPOSE TO BE ON 15 MG of roxy every 4 hrs as well but i haven't gotten them filled yet. My main question is am i takin to much 60 ms cotin with 50MCG OF FENTAYL?? I hope i could get some simple feedback on this.thank you. ## Whether or not such dosages are too much is entirely relative to the person taking them. It may be too much for some people, but not for others. If you are really concerned about overdose, you could speak to your doctor about starting small, then working up to taking more, if you need to do so. The FDA warns that these medications carry the ri...

How many percocets equal the 100mcg patches changed every 48 hours ## Hello, Tina! How are you? Fentanyl is the most potent opiate available, so you'd actually need several hundred milligrams of Oxycodone to equal a 100mcg patch and you can't take enough Percocet to be equal to it. Percocet contains Acetaminophen and Oxycodone, you'd overdose, especially on the Acetaminophen, before you ever reached the same level of efficacy. Even if you tried to space it over 2 days, as you would the patch. The FDA lists these medications as being narcotic analgesics, so they have potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. Has your doctor switched you form one to the other? ## okay? I have a question on pain ...

Hello. I am on the Fentanyl 50mcg patch taken the standard way. Change every 72 hours. I have been on the patch for almost a week. I am on the patch for excruciating thigh and lower leg pain due to spinal problems.Tomorrow will be my third new patch. My questions are: I have yet to notice anything that seems like pain relief. Nothing. Should I have noticed any kind of relief by now, or does it take longer than I've allowed it so far. ## Hello, Greg! How are you? Yes, you should've noticed some pain relief within an hour or so of putting on the first one. However, it is possible that it just might not work for you. Have you contacted your doctor about it? This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizzines...

I have had severe chronic back pain for over 10yrs..when I had insurance it was never a problem to get my medications (tramadol, lortab, fentanyl, muscle relaxers, ambien and trazodone). Since I lost insurance it is extremely hard to find a dr and pay for medications since I am a cash pay patient. Is there anywhere or programs that are free or will help cover me to see a dr and cost of medications? I'm in Oklahoma.

I have 2 sister's, one was older and the other one is 1 yr younger then I. My older sister by 4 yrs, had type 1 Diabetes since 2 yrs of age. Beautiful young woman she was. She was always in the hospital from her illness being in a coma or had many Diabetic Reactions. She survived a heart attack at age 22.. She survived a Stroke at age 33.. She was very sick a lot of the times. But, she was very strong willed. She walked everywhere even to go to work. She couldn't make ends meet. So she cut down on her insulin from 2 shots per-day to one shot per-day. She never told anyone in our family.. She lived on her own in a studio apartment. Fitchburg, MA. is where my entire family is born & raised from. I hated Fitchburg, MA. I moved when I was 26 to VA and love it here. Anyway, by he...

I've been using the fentanyl patches for 4yrs now. Mostly Mylan brand (best out there). But the pharmacy switched to watson brand because of cheaper price. Here's the problem, for the last 5 months 6 patches out of 15 per month don't stick. They fall off within a couple of hours. Do you recommend some kind of cover tape that I can use? Because of the problems with these products I'm losing a lot of $$$. PLEASE HELP!!! Can someone please get back to me about this. Thanks for your time. ## Hello, Shawn! How are you? There is a cover tape available for them, most pharmacies carry it, so you may want to talk to your pharmacist about the problem. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects,...

If I squeeze some of my fentanyl patch into some clean urine will it show up on the urine test ## It may or may not, it depends on what type of test they do. There are some tests that only check for the presence of a narcotic and in that case, it may work and be fine. However, there are more in-depth tests that check for the specific narcotic, as well as the levels of the metabolites. In this case, if it has not been processed through your body, there will be no metabolites and they would know that you weren't using it as you should be. Are there any other questions or comments? ## Its the test where u pee in a cup and they flip it upside down and the results appear on the top ## Its the test where u pee in a cup and they flip it upside down and the results appear on the top ## Can ...

I have a bad back. I'm missing a vertebra and have a metal spacer now and a lot of screws, total 20 surgeries. I now have a pain pump (fentanyl) and take 30mg Oxy 3x a day. Screwed my back up Jan 1999, so I've been on this stuff a while and never abused it as I chase the pain, not the high. I fell and knocked my shoulder out and chipping bone off the rim of the socket and had surgery. My surgeon said he would not give me anything for pain because I have a pain management Dr. Just before surgery I went to my pain Dr and told him about this. My back injury was work related, so he told me he couldn't treat me for my shoulder. Anyone that's had shoulder surgery knows the pain level of it and the long & painful recovery. I can't believe these Dr won't do anything....

After being hit head on by a drunk driver when I was 14 (I'm now 43) I lived until my mid twenties literally in agony. In my late 20's I was referred to a pain management Dr because of the severity of my injury and lack of trying everything else under the sun to relieve my symptoms, all to no avail. After years of seeing the same pain Dr I ended up in ICU due to an unrelated but still a very excruciating life threatening emergency. Unfortunately and too my complete surprise (while simultaneously praying for someone to just please put me out of my misery) I wasn't able to receive ANYTHING at all for pain in the ER out of fear of an overdose. I had been taking my prescribed medications for many many years which were 200mcg of the Fentanyl patch to be changed every 48 hrs as we...

Hi all. I have seen a lot of posts in the drugs forum about Fentanyl withdrawal. I too have been struggling with the withdrawal symptoms for 10 days now. Trust me when I say it DOES and WILL get easier. I know that if you have just recently started a taper or have gone cold turkey because a taper hasn't worked for you, you're probably not feeling very well right now.Trust me when I say it will get better. It may take weeks to finally feel normal again, but the worst will be over before you know it! I was on 100mcg/hr for about a year, and just recently tapered to 12.5 but went through withdrawal anyhow. Here are a few things that might help, and that have helped me get through the worst of it. ****REMEMBER***** To consult your doctor before pulling yourself off any medication :)...

I have been on fentanyl patch for 10 yrs, and Roxicodone for break thru pain. I was in a car accident in 1998 and have had more issues since. My pain Dr. has decided that he will be following CDC guidelines for PCP's even tho it is a Pain clinic. Actually I think it's because I stopped lining their pockets, having useless procedures, facet injections, etc. I NEED to find a pain clinic, near Rockford Il, Naperville, Aurora. I live over an hour from these but in my small town there is none. I have been driving hrs. every mth., My daughter who has had Brain surgery is also a patient & is being cut also. We have Insurance ## Try Dr. SCOTT GLASER OF THE CHICAGO PAIN INSTITUTE. HES IN HINSDALE, IL & I SAW HIM, ALTHO IT WAS ALMOST 10 YEARS AGO, HE WAS NICE HE HELPED ME & AS ...

I missed my apt. For refil on my oxy30 because I had flu. Must use what I have to get through until Tuesday when my next apt is. I have fentaynol 100 patches. What is the dosage of fentanol to make up for lack of oxy? Have been on oxy and fentaynol for years. ## Tired If you've been on both the fentanyl and oxycodone concurrently you should be just fine using the fentanyl alone as the doc prescribed it since the oxys are primarily for bt pain. You may have more pain then usual but the patches will hold you until your next appt. without any true opiate withdrawal hope that helps ## Thank you so much! This new law in Florida is horrible. It allows for no exceptions. One must plan their lives around their pain meds new script dates. If you are too sick, too bad. If you are traveling ab...

At 4pm and gets another one thru. Is this right and this is the only pain meds he on other than clonazepam 1mg. So is this right? Just wondering cause he stays in pain. ## Hello, Brandy! How is your dad doing? Yes, 72 hours is the normal dosing duration, though if necessary it can be changed every 48 hours. They can also raise the dosage, if necessary. The FDA classifies this medication as a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, dry mouth and constipation. I have been prescribed Fentanyl every 48 hours for a few years now. Since this latest CDA recommendation, my pain clinic doctor has reduced me from 100mcg down to a 75mcg, and he claims he is required by CDA to lower me even more! I have severe chronic pain and I am 56 years old. But he claims the CDA wants all his patients drastically reduced or taken off meds. When I researched that claim and showed him that the CDA has only made suggestions, he is now saying the FDA doesn't want Fentanyl to be prescribed q48 anymore - he says he is now going to make me go a full 72 hours!! I cannot be reduced any further, I can barely function at work as it is because the pain is no longer under control now. Is he lying to me? How can they mandate Fentanyl must be worn 72 hours when there's s...

I've been on Fentanyl 100mch for over 7 yrs due to severe Neuropathic Pain in my right arm as well as Spinal Stenosis in my lower back. I also take Ultram 50mg for increased night pain. Due to an insurance issue it's been 8 days since my last patch. I feel no withdrawal symptoms. No dizziness, no nausea, no increased anxiety or sleep problems. I don't even feel an increased pain level. Is it too soon for symptoms, or does my body process Fentanyl differently? ## Hello, Kaasan! How are you? Some people don't, though we don't know why, but some people can just stop some medications like this and not experience withdrawals, or their symptoms are so mild that they aren't problematic. Are you still doing well? As listed by the FDA, the typical withdrawal side effects ...

I have pain in my dislocated right hip... Has anyone out there had a hip joint nerve ablation? Did it work? I can no longer be prescribed the pain meds I was on due to new laws as of jan, 2016. Please help. ## The laws actually have not changed, other than to limit some of the amounts that can be prescribed, the rest are just recommendations that the DEA has issued, in order to try to gain better control of the opiate supply to help prevent theft and diversion, as well as to limit over prescribing and improper prescribing. The extra scrutiny from the government has caused many doctors to be afraid of prescribing controlled substances, but it is not against the law for them to do so. What type of doctor have you been consulting? A pain management specialist would likely be able to help y...
