I live with severe chronic pain for 3+ years, degenerative disc disease, cervical spine. Life is at times and quite often, hell. I don't know how else to describe it and the worst if the constipation from the percocets. Are the fentanyl patches a reasonable alternative to percocets? Do they cause constipation? Should my doctor consider prescribing me patches to try? Cannabis by the way has helped me reduce my opioid intake my 75%. Do a search for beyondthc and find out the facts. Unfortunately my pain is more severe and so a combination has helped me do this major reduction, however the constipation is still a problem. Help! ## Hi Tudo, Sorry to hear about your complications with Percocet. From what I could gather, Fentanyl patches list the following gastrointestinal related side ef...

I am converting a pt from Fentanyl 150mcg to oxycontin 60mg. Should I leave the patch on for a few hours before removing it: ## Dear Cheri: I am not a Dr, nor am I in the medical field. All I have to offer is my experience. Going from 150mcg of Fentynal to 60 mgs of Oxy seems like a Huge Decrease! I am presently tritrating very slowly off of Fentynal, via my Drs help. May I ask why the switch? Is it not possible to ween down off patch then onto the other med? I say this because there are Many of us tritrating from Patch and if the Drs and Nurses only Knew what we, the patients go through, then and Only then would they Fully Understand. The big pharmaceutical companies Lie! I am not trying to be mean, nor am I a know it all. I am trying to help the person who is going from fentynal to Ox...

I've been on 50mcg/hr Fentanyl Transdermal patch, for 9 years. I've had 4 major back surgeries and kidney stones and the patch does not work any more take the patch every 48 hours and now i'm going to a pain clinic and told them that i want off the patch;they told me to leave the patch on for 72 hours and they would give me 10mg off oxycodone to take 3 times a day. Is that enough because i'm hurting in such a way i cannot explain,i have been taking up to 4 or 5 a day and it seems to help a little better. what do you think i should do? ## Hello, Ozark! How are you? I'm very sorry that you're in so much pain. However, there is a higher dose of the patches available that you could switch to, it is also available in a 100mcg dosage. At this time, I doubt the Oxycodon...

I have been switched through my insurance to another pharmacy from CBS who always managed to game my brand and strength available on script day ( pretty important when you live as far from town as I do!!) At any rate all of my choices left had less than 5 patches or could no longer even obtain the Patch I was left getting the archaic WATSON 100 PATCH I HATE THESE?! This canny just be a local shortage? It must be at least chain store common, or was it a glitch and there are plenty around. I bought they even stopped making this kind of Patch because of abuse??!! Frustrated with Fentanyl! Ha ha ## This doesn't necessarily mean that there is a shortage, it's just likely that Mylan was offering a cheaper price, when they pharmacy needed to restock their supply, so that's what was...

ever since Mylan brand fentanyl patches went up in price i cannot find any place that offers that brand. they say they don't make any money on them anymore. well, they are the best and only brand that has ever helped my back pain and i need to find out who still has them and i am also on medicaid and there was never a problem with the price. please help. ## Hello, Papa! How are you? I'm sorry, but there is no database of what pharmacy has a medication in stock, or what manufacturer's they carry. Have you discussed the issue with your doctor? You may need to adjust your dosage or add some other medication for breakthrough pain. Learn more Fentanyl details here. This is a narcotic analgesic, so it has the potential to be habit forming and may cause side effects, such as nausea...

I am a senior citizen who is on Fentanyl patch (very low dose) and Norco. I have been on the same amounts and dose for four years and I go to a 24 hour Walgreens because I am on a night owl schedule (worked ER x 40 yrs on nights) and my son works days and we share a vehicle. I have been a Walgreens pharmacy customer at least 10 yrs. I have NEVER asked for early fill of my prescriptions, never ANY issues with scripts. Last night I went at 1AM and found a note printed and taped to the desk that said, "If you have any prescriptions for Class II narcotics, you must return to get them filled at 0800." I waited to talk to the RPh but he ignored me, so I left. I drove to another 24 hour Walgreens and promptly got the 2 prescriptions filled. WHAT the HECK is going on at Walgreens??? I c...

I have my appointment with pain management tomorrow. I am on fentanyl patch 25 every 48 hours and norco 10/325 four times a day it isn't working and my quality of life stinks any suggestions what I could be switched to. Since it has to be done when I see him. ## I need help finding a stronger or different medicine for my pain management . Fentanyl patch 25 every 48 hours and norco 10/325 four times a day it wears off to fast and I can't enjoy my life ## I would be surprised if your pain doc. didn't put you a higher patch. The 25mg is just a starting dosage to see how you tolerate the drug. I was on a 25. every 72 hrs. plus narco's as needed, then upped 50mg every 72hrs. Now am on 75mg. every 72 hrs. plus narco's as needed and get good pain relief from that plus twice...

My doctor switched me from 125 fentanyl patches to OxyNeo 80 mg every 12 hours on Thursday. I wore new compression socks Saturday and removed them at bedtime. A couple hours later, my feet and lower legs were red and burning hot to the touch. I went to the ER, blood work is good. Could the red legs be a withdrawal symptom?

As of May 1, my PCP will no longer treat chronic pain. I developed rsd/crps several years ago after surgery. I was referred to a pain clinic; PT; several modalities. Finally got pain manageable with Fentanyl Patches and Hydrocodone. Multiple weaning attempts, but pain was too much. Almost 2 years ago, I was able to wean off of the patches. So now, just using hydrocodone. It keeps pain tolerable most days. I am awake, alert and fully functional. I take 20 mg four times a day. As a critical care and hospice nurse for 30+ years, I know risks and ramifications. I also know I CANNOT tolerate 24/7/365 pain. I just need someone who will continue the regimen that has worked for me for years. I have done it all; biofeedback, antidepressants, anticonvulsants, etc.. I am on full term disability du...

The millions of pain patients who rely on pain meds to get through their day without horrible pain are out of luck. Doctors are under threat of imprisonment and pharmacy's are being told they will be audited if they fill any scripts. This is a horrible situation for legitimate pain patients. Now they will all be looking on the streets and many will die from the illicit drugs going around. People hooked on painkillers should research Ibogaine. People in daily pain will need to find a doctor to prescribe the proper type of marijuana to treat their pain.

I used to wear fentanyl patches myself 100 mcg. There are two things you should be aware of. The generic brand (as opposed to brand name Duragesic) has been associated with varying inconsistencies. While brand name drug and generics have to be equals in their chemical make-up as mandated by the FDA, the delivery system does not. So please, ask your doc. This drug is ALL about the delivery membrane. Secondly, if you want to spend any time in the sun for any good length of time, you will begin to feel signs of overdose and/or low blood sugar because you will release the drug too rapidly. Because of this, you may feel withdrawal before your three days are up. Also, for good adhesion, try covering your patch with a product called Tegaderm. It might be kind of hard to find but your pharmacy ...

My pain doc. changed me from 30 mg methadone 3 times a day to a 25mcg fentanyl patch every 48 hours since I started I have had nothing but hot and cold flashes / withdrawal for 3 days and almost zero pain control does anyone know what the conversion rate of 90 milligrams methadone per day vs 25mcg fentynal over 48 hours is? I honestly don't believe that the fentanyl is a equal dose to the methadone am I right or wrong any help would be greatly appreciated thank you very much ## I'm very sorry that you're so miserable. However, to be honest, there is no direct conversion for your doctor, or anyone else, to use going from Methadone to another medication. Methadone is very well known, as reported by the NIH, for causing withdrawals, regardless of what it is replaced with or how...

My sister is on the 25mcg Fentanyl patch. She is having problems with the adhesive. Her arm is turging red, puffing up and burning and itching. After the patch is removed getting the adhesite residue off has been a problem. She was using rubbing alcohol but is now using vegetable oil. If anything since starting to use the vegetable oil the redness, and swelling seems worse. She has switched pharmacies hoping a different brand of patch might help. She is wondering if Fentanyl can be taken in a way other than by a patch. Such as pill form etc. ## Wow! I am so sorry to hear about what she's dealing with. It sounds like she might be allergic to something in the adhesive. I experience those symptoms any time I use a latex bandage, I have to avoid them. And yes, it is available in other f...

The man I give care to has had a fentanyl patch on consistently for 2+ years. For the last 3 months he has tested NO fentanyl in his urine! These specimens were taken WHILE he was wearing his patch. What is going on? Any ideas? ## I am caregiver for a 74 year old male with multiple health problems. He has been in severe pain stemming from an accident about 8 years ago. He takes Percocet and has been using the 75mcg Fentanyl patch for the pain for the past few years. Starting in Sept. 2013 he has tested 3 times negative for Fentanyl in his system using a urine test. I personally apply the patch, and personally remove the patches and can attest that he has consistently worn the patch for at least 2 years. The pain Doctor has accused him/me/us of not using his patches and either "shari...

Hello, I am a RN and DO NOT use fentanyl. I was going to my MD for chronic pain related to a back injury. He wanted a blood test for drug screen before i started taking Vicodin. I did it and it came back + for norfentanyl. I am perplexed. The only way i can think of being exposed to Fentanyl is for Patients who take the patch at work. I do give Fentanyl patches to my patients occasionally. Could skin exposure to the patch IE: me putting it on a clients skin cause the positive result? (No, i dont always wear gloves when giving meds!) ## It's always possible, but generally you wouldn't get a detectable amount that way. Learn more Fentanyl details here. Do you take any medications regularly, even over the counter products? ## It depends on how many patches you administer in a day n...

I cannot afford the Duragesic brand 75 µg/hr fentanyl patches that work great (my newer insurance only covers the generic brands), thus I use the generic Mylan brand. This presents three problems: 1) Even a Tagaderm patch over each Mylan patch won't prevent about 2 or 3 patches per month from uncoupling from my skin. 2) I kept a careful record of my pain level every four hours and whenever a new patch was applied day and night for 96 hrs. The data clearly show that no clinical amount of additional fentanyl leaves the Mylan patch after 36 hrs. This does not occur with the Durogesic patch. 3) I tried the Watson brand patch that has a gel-filled sac on it, and its performance was pathetic. The patches were very difficult to keep affixed and they provided significantly less pain re...

I took off my 25mcg. Fentanyl 3 days ago and have to have a urine drug screen for employment. Will it show after 72 hrs on a 6405N 5-50 GC/MS test? ## It could still show up, Fentanyl is a very potent narcotic, which is over 80 times stronger than Morphine and most narcotics are detectable in urine for as long as 4 to 5 days. This time frame, however, will vary, depending on your metabolism, fluid intake, activity levels and other factors. If you have a prescription for the patches, all you have to do is inform them of this, when you go in for the test, they cannot fail you for using something that is legally prescribed. The only exceptions to this are certain jobs that are governed by some specific federal laws, where potent narcotics and other controlled substances may endanger far to...
